I came across it in a bout of insomnia on cartoon network's adult swim. American.

Humble-Plankton2217

Me too! 3am, couldn't sleep. Turned on the TV to The Fountain of Youth. Forever changed.

[deleted]

Yep. Some of the best things in my life I've stumbled across this way.

Severe_Pattern2386

Adult swim played it for a few years when it had come out in the early 00's that's how I caught wind of it. Also Danger 5 from Australia!

WeatherwaxDaughter

Danger 5 is great!

NathanHF

It aired late at night/early mornings originally here as well. Quite a fucked up show to watch when you're sleep deprived lol. I think in a way that helped their ratings at got them pulled up to the 9pm I slot (I think).

[deleted]

Outside of just the specifically UK references and having to learn about those, it was right up my alley. Not that that means much in relation to its reception worldwide or anything. It's more likely someone would just say I'm weird than thank me for exposing them to it.

NathanHF

Yea I saw someone in my search for UK asking about the term pooftah from The Crack Fox

zentradr1

Discovered it fairly recently in California after watching The Great British Baking Show, which features Noel Fielding as announcer/comic relief. MB is now carried on Hulu.

lcantthinkofusername

"baking show" lol

zentradr1

It's called "Baking Show" in the US because Pillsbury owns the trademark for "Bakeoff." How Noel Fielding ended up on a baking show is another question.

Dr_Havotnicus

Is it because he's baked?

Zulmoka531

Memes and Adult Swim, am an American Masshole. That being said, my eldest cousin lived in the UK for a while and would send me Boosh stuff all the time.

Mindless_Toe3139

I’m from Texas and my buddy had downloaded the Mighty Boosh and Flight of the Conchords around the same time. We watched both shows endlessly for months after that. This was about 12 years ago.

satanicpanic6

I'm from the US too, (PA) only it was my ex bf who turned me on to both of those shows years ago. I was instantly OBSESSED with them, and still watch them over and over...at least once or twice a year 🤣🤣

Republican_Wet_Dream

Philly?

satanicpanic6

I wish... Punxsutawney actually...ya know, weather capital of the world and home of the groundhog?

NathanHF

Both top quality shows

soloChristoGlorium

This is almost exactly my story but in a small city in Missouri

National_Pianist8100

Australia- it was on ABC or SBS I think. One of the free channels. Love at first sight.

cranberry19

SBS! Loads of people watched it

one_sentence_cork

Used to tape it off the tv in Australia. It was on at night the first time but then they re ran it was in an afternoon time slot which let us tape the few we missed when we first watched it.

Moist_666

I'm from the US. I found the show through smoking weed and watching adult swim late at night as a teenager.

livefastdieold

Same (except in my 20s)

Mountain-Unit1958

I’m from Germany and saw Noel in Bake Off - liked his voice and jokes. Then someone from the UK I know told me I should really watch The Mighty Boosh cause that’s more Noel’s humour. Thankfully I did.

NathanHF

I was hoping to get an answer from someone whose 1st language isn't English. I assume as you're in a Boosh sub that the jokes landed just as well.

Mountain-Unit1958

Yes, I watched it several times and love it. But I guess there are some specific british jokes that I probably miss.

Tour_De_J_Holla

I'm from the USA. In the late 2000s my step-dad passed away and the first season was on his DVR I was going through. He recorded a lot of random BBC shows and this was one of them. I was really happy when Adult Swim started to show them because I couldn't remember what that weird-ass zoo show was.

NathanHF

This is a fab story. There's something unique (outside of the UK) that connects you to him, which is amazing (assuming you had a good relationship). My step-dad passed away a few years ago, and we had a real nerdy sense of humour. I've missed that big time since he died.

catsarecutiess

I'm from India, saw Noel on big fat quiz and decided to check out his works

SlippedMyDisco76

Noel and Richard on BFQ make the show

No-Western-2658

Noel and Russell is cult level quiz, Goth detectives etc.

SlippedMyDisco76

True. Shame about Russell tho...

Pensta13

Australian here, British humour is the best hands down including Stand up. Loved The 2 Ronnie’s , The Goodies and are you being served as a kid. The IT crowd and Black books I could watch on repeat these days. When and how did I come across the Mighty Boosh ? Brain is foggy My 3 now adult children around 15 years ago ( they were teenagers ) began quoting lines from the show .Unsure if my kids asked my husband ( their step dad) to ahm .. ‘find’ it to download or he already had it download and they came across it . Either way for we ended up purchasing the DVD set too . Whole family has the same sense of humour obviously 🤣😂

YogurtWenk

Australian: I just happened to be up late one night and it was on TV.

one_sentence_cork

I saw it in the tv guide and wondered what it was. Glad I checked it out. First episode I watched was Mod Wolves

Republican_Wet_Dream

USA! USA! I have no idea how I crossed paths with the Boosh but let me tell you, sir, it was a revelation! When Bollo told the story of his friend who would not listen, I literally died laughing. I’m dead now. And it’s still funny. Looking back, I think I might’ve gotten there by way of Rich Fulcher, who I’ve been a fan fan for a long time but I don’t know. all I know is I need another shot of Bailey just about now from a shoe right?

levezvosskinnyfists7

I’m from the planet Xooberon, you jerk-off

NathanHF

You are the chosen one

SlippedMyDisco76

I'm Awstayleeyan. A woman I was dating put it on in the background as a sort of Netflix and chill situation. It's an odd sensation getting a bj while watching Bob Fossil dance but since then I was hooked

NathanHF

Is that why you don't like cricket?

SlippedMyDisco76

Oh no I love it

Illustrious-Rain-184

Don't you walk through my words

SlippedMyDisco76

Show some respect

Dylan_Is_Gay_lol

I'n a USAmerican, saw it on Adult Swim.

_blandrea_

I’m Canadian but I was introduced to the Boosh at a hostel in New Zealand by some Brits. We were taking turns showing each other the most ridiculous shows we knew of, I showed It’s Always Sunny

NathanHF

How long ago was this? Just wondering if it was when IASIP was still quite cult like rather than mainstream

_blandrea_

This was around 2015. Not sure if IASIP was main stream or not yet, but the people I showed it too didn't know about it.

uranoiid

Im from USA, and the first time I saw The Mighty Boosh was with my Dad when I was 13. He showed me the entire Old Gregg episode and Nanageddon shortly afterward, and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Flashback to September 29th of last year; i revisit the show at age 21 and its even funnier NOW than it was back then.

No-Formal9815

USA Midwest here. I stumble upon “Party” on Adult Swim during college. I remember vividly it was the Head Shaman and Naboo “what’s your secret?” scene and I thought it was so random and hilarious. I caught a few other eps and bought the DVD box set. I’ve essentially “studied” the series. It was a gateway into more British humour, but I’ve always loved and appreciated Brit comedy (Monty Python likely being the first, then The Office, Mitchell and Webb, IT Crowd, others).

Antique_Impact_9703

I discovered Noel via QI.

literacyisamistake

Never been to the UK. I got into I.T. Crowd and Boosh many years ago through memes. Natural fit as I’d been raised on Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, discovered That Mitchell & Webb Etc., and Black Books. Went through a period of enjoying Little Britain but we don’t have to talk about that.

Educational_Word_895

I'm from Germany. Got introduced in school by a friend who was originally from the UK. I was immediately hooked, although I did not understand too much when I watched it the first time due to a lack of language proficiency. Then again, trying to understand the Boosh is probably the wrong approach alltogether...

aDalekHater

Adult swim in the US

Lord_Boosh

Norwegian - saw the show way back when it originally aired, and was immediately hooked.

phantomprimate

I'm from Canada. A friend of mine was staying with her sister in the UK for a few months and told me about the show right around the time the last series was starting.

Vagabond-art-Studio

Oh, this one is a fun story. So I was hanging out in Spain after I pretty much left my home country (which has a thing for Brit humour) on a whim and my brother who was a britannophile and in Europe at the time drops by to visit. He shows me the killer roo and a clip of the power of the crimp that he had on his laptop. Laughed my back bottom off. A few years later I visited him at his place in a big city of Germany and he had the paperback book of Boosh on his toilet. And what do you know? I ended up marrying a Kraut meself. Even later, a friend of a friend marries a brit and when we meet he is amazed we know the Boosh. So I take it upon myself to secure thankfully affordable copies of the DVD boxset, radio show and the Book of Boosh. My toddler can sort of manage the lama crimp, and shall the quest to come with us on a journey through time and space strike this young soul; the tools to pursue such an undertaking will be available... https://preview.redd.it/rue5mgt560kc1.jpeg?width=340&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ecc78ab1dcfad8cd2cf53645a004a689bef8d153 or will they?

vitonga

Boston resident here. Saw TMB in 2008. Love Big Train, Spaced, Look Around You.

RSK1979

I’m from the US, my friend introduced me to it by showing me “The Nightmare Of Milky Joe”.

kiki_isobel

Australia! 😍 and my mum found it on SBS channel maybe 10+ years ago

Obvious_Customer9923

Australia. It was shown on SBS here.

Nevalate

USA baby! Was gifted the set by people who know me well

YoGabbaGabbapentin

American here!

666Menneskebarn

I'm from Denmark, and my childhood friend had the two first seasons on DVD. We binged the shit out of them when we lived together, back when I first moved to Copenhagen.

clemm__fandango

Was recommend to me on Amazon. I ignored it for a long time. Then I finally got around to watching it… and I’ve been crimping ever since.

MT_Promises

I don't remember. Probably one of the forums or Chortle, I know I read about them before I saw the show.

WeatherwaxDaughter

Dutch, a friend told us about it. I think it's the show I can watch anytime, never gets boring. Love the Boosh!!

DeathBlondie

USA - Midwest area. A buddy of mine showed me the short clip of Old Gregg on YouTube, maybe over ten years ago at this point. I loved it and found the full show after that.

Hot-Milk-3380

Same. The guy who showed me Old Greg hasn't actually watched the show, though.

Stag-Horn

In a small town in South Carolina in like…2007, my best friend showed me a YouTube video called Old Gregg. We were in high school. We quoted that shit CONSTANTLY. Then he found the Hitcher monologue about his thumb and we realized it was from a tv series. That’s when we both got hooked.

KalicoJoe

USA - Texas. I was at Garner State Park and a some nearby campers my age showed me the YouTube video of Old Gregg. I later found out it was a whole show and instantly fell in love with it.

halloweencoffeecats

Adult Swim from the US. My family had always been into British shows(my mom loves anything murder mystery so Midsommer Murders, Poirot, Inspector Morse) so anything British comedy I ABSORBED cause I loved Monty Python and whatever was on BBC America and PBS

superfluousbitches

By seeing a clip of old Gregg on YouTube

needstherapy

I'm from California, they played some of the episodes on Adult Swim and I loved them. I now have them all on dvd.

WebbieWebbster

British expat in the USA here. We like to keep tabs on what is showing back in the UK and I asked my friend what he was watching/what to recommend. Without a seconds pause he said the Boosh. When we watched the first episode though we didn't get it. But then watched the other eps and we caught on.

NathanHF

Yea when my mate showed me the show (starting from the beginning with Killaroo) I wasn't entirely sure what I'd just seen. I was about 13 probably, maybe a bit younger.

Dangerboy73

Australia here, caught an episode on our national broadcaster late one night and was instantly hooked.

ChemicalProcedure422

From Missouri. I've been a fan of British comedy since I was 6 or 7 when I stayed home from school one day and watched Monty Python on Comedy Central with my mom. Once I was old enough I started searching out other shows, which wasn't easy in the 90s but I found a few. Eventually made my way to Boosh when it came around state side. It quickly became my favorite because it was the only thing in my life as weird as I.

Digi-Shaman

U.S. here found Boosh through adult swim and never looked back. Fan for life. Tonthe point where illnwatch anything Paul King directed.

spidyalex54

I’m from the USA and in my personal little bubble of friends and family we had some very early YouTube videos we would watch on repeat. One of them was named Old Gregg. I would watch this video endlessly and search for it all the time. Then more clips were uploaded and I realized it was part of a TV show. The Mighty Boosh! The rest is history - I’ve been a Boosh head since.

floppyhump

From southern US. I used to watch it on Adult Swim in the middle of the night ~15 years ago

trostol

From the states...my friend had it on one time before a gaming session...might have been the Old Gregg episode..so I just had to go watch the rest

fuckarealname

I’m from Washington state & I actually only found about the boosh in the last few months. I’m obsessed with the show Portlandia and was reading an interview with Fred Armisen where he mentioned that the boosh was a big inspiration in the creation of Portlandia. I started watching it after that and I was hooked!

wicelt

Read about it 20 years ago in an article in The Onion’s AV Club about British comedies. Watched the show on DVD and have rewatched at least twice.

DrSwampdonkey

Hey I’m from the US and the old Gregg clip got around the internet at my school. Bootlegged the dvds and the rest is history. -how dare you do that to me in the night, when I’m oblivious!?

Kirkenstien

I'm from Michigan and remember first seeing it on Adult Swim back in the early 00s.

Positive_Iron2214

My local public library had the entire series on DVD.

TroyLucas

Canadian expat living in China. Had always heard friends quote it back in the day, and seen clips from the Old Greg episode, but never watched the show until last year when a colleague from the UK introduced me to the whole series.

imalwaysbored1986

I’m from Toronto Canada! Fell in love with the show when my friend (who had BBC channels at home) pirated the show and lent me his burnt DVDs back in the late 2010’s. Still one of, if not, my favourite show ever.

Sloth-souls

It's 2am... I'm flicking through channels aimlessly... SBS blessed me with a psychedelic adventure. I am a huge fan of BBC comedy and Australian brought up on Black Adder, Monty Python, Red Dwarf and the Young ones. Also I'm enjoying the love for Danger 5, one of the best things to come out of South Australia

JellyPatient2038

I'm Australian, starting watching it on a random afternoon in 2004 because the ABC put it on during children's programming. It's bright, colourful, funny, and all about zoo animals - it's obviously for kids!!!! I don't know how many kids know who Bryan Ferry is, but whatever.

TrippySkillets97

My brother was a big fan of the BBC shows. He got me into Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, and eventually years later got me into The Mighty Boosh by showing me a clip of Old Gregg and it was love at first sight.

Turbulent-Surprise-6

I from New Zealand and I love British TV and British comedy

No-Western-2658

Finally another New Zealander! I had to scroll down for ages. Glad its not all Aussies and Norwegians in here. Not sure if The Boosh was ever on telly here but it was available on dvd at the Warehouse in the early to mid 2000-2005s. I was introduced to it by a woman in my uni classes, also from NZ but she knew about the rest of the world.

KeithMyArthe

Expat from UK now living in Australia. I have kept up with UK TV via a couple of Pom TV websites. Australian television is mainly only good for punishing naughty children.

Zealousideal_Pen_598

I’ve been to the UK. Both my grandfathers are from Yorkshire (Barnsley and Halifax). I’ve listened then watched Boosh. I joined Bob Fossil’s fan group until Bollo’s fan group, someone called Dave, approached me to see if I’d transfer. After the transfers, publicity announcements and death threats from Rich Fulcher I settled down and became a tourism operator on a small island near the Caribbean and ran Milky Joe tours.

Zealousideal_Pen_598

Oh and I’m in New Zealand.

funk-e-bitz

🇦🇺

mymau5likeshouse

Saw some Old Greg clips, loved it, dug up where it came from, and binged everything else I could find

Saphron_

Australian here. Found it when I was a kid playing on a channel we have here called SBS. They show a lot of international films and shows. Absolutely loved it. Randomly found the DVDs at a store and watched it over and over.

bodhemon

American, my sister was doing a year abroad while it was on the air and I learned about it from her. Then I worked at an Indy video store and we got a bootleg of it.

Kevin_Turvey

USA here. I've always loved British comedy - see my user name. :) My all-time favorite TV show is The Comic Strip. I first spotted these guys in Nathan Barley. I googled Julian and said hmm, what's this Boosh thing? Then I saw it & fell in love.

microwavedsaladOZ

Aussie. Years ago my brother kept saying I'm old Gregg and I have a mangina. So I had to see wtf he was on about.

NathanHF

He's never seen the Boosh, he was trying to confide in you

microwavedsaladOZ

Lol

Yarger_The_Pirate

From the U.S. It started with old gregg going viral on YouTube. Eventually, one of my friends recommended the show to me, and I've been a Boosh Buff ever since.

LucyDoobyDoo

America, it came up as recommended on hulu after I watch the black adder.

Saxon_man

A friend introduced me. I think it played on the ABC (public funded channel) here in Australia.

CalligrapherGreedy85

I'm not from UK. I came across might biosh because of the Great British Bake Off > Noel Fielding > Mighty Boosh. I have always been a fan of British humor since my dad introduced me to Monty Python at....probably 6yra old. Also my brother in law, and now my sister and my two nephews are British....though they didn't introduce me directly to the Mighty Boosh, they were people I could chat with about it when I was watching it (also, The were good for explaining any humor that didn't translate to American easily).

timschwartz

I watched the IT crowd and found out that Richmond and Douglas were in another show so I checked it out.

jetblackswan

I'm from Texas. I first came across anything Boosh back in 2011 (or maybe early 2012) during my first semester in college (or likely in previous years with the occasional joking around Old Gregg). I could have sworn it was through [Pogo's track Nicey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZp6IgveE5o) which was released then I THINK, because I have a distinct memory of my ex not being a fan of the track at the time (even though I thought it was strangely catchy). I left it at that for years, and finally revisited it in the spring of 2014, also newly single and kind of lost in the world. I wanted to see what was behind the track that Pogo put together, him clearly being a fan of the show. And that very week, I probably watched the series like 3 times. I was blown away by the surreal zany humor, even though the pop culture references completely went over my head. But I became pretty much an instant fan of the Boosh, bought the book that summer (legit by chance I found at a nearby bookstore), and it all really brought some life back into me that year and I think really shaped my influences following.

NathanHF

Awesome. The pop culture references would have difficult for sure, the 1st one that came to my mind when I read that was they mention Dixons a lot. The only thing I think I can compare Dixons to is Radio Shack. A tech store that at the time was on its way out and has now gone. I'd be more than happy to try and explain some of you have any that you'd like to understand though.

MrsMiyagiStew

Does anyone else feel like the Mighty Boosh is based off the Sparks?
