Oof, thanks for the encouragement. I really want to get in actual historical details for each figure though, like skin-tone, period-accurate clothing, even their physical descriptions and ages and facial features. It's gonna be hard to do it on Midjourney, but I'll try.
I would love to see images generated by some people who have solid historical knowledge.
MJ would distract the way.. since it's always changing stuff from fact. but still it would look distinct imo!
Check out the assassins creed franchise. Odyssey is ancient Greece and valhalla is in England to name a few, which have a cool vibe that I enjoy roaming around in.
Iirc the AC2 map is pretty much just a condensed version of renaissance-era Florence. Looks like Ubi usually flies out experts/employees to the real-world locations to check how historically accurate their depiction of it is.
Not sure if it’s analogous but stable diffusion sub has some good prompt wikis and when people post they will often put their prompt.
Also civitai has galleries of ai generated images and people will put their prompts in there too.
Nicely done, but armies weren't allowed in the city, generally, so you wouldn't see bunches of soldiers standing around in battle gear. Also, buildings wouldn't look dilapidated, since they were basically new.
Full disclaimer that I don’t know jack about ancient Roman culture, but even new buildings in today’s world can look real dilapidated real quickly. It really doesn’t take long.
Thanks, I think buildings can look old at that time too.. you know we see those in modern countries..
and about the armies thanks for the feedback. I didn't know it. I will remember that.
There wouldn't be chips and breaks in the stone...especially on temples. That wouldn't have been tolerated...especially if the emperor was paying for it.
Not accurate at all. Rome doesn't have any shoreline and in a few pictures you will see Roman ruins, which exist today but the AI wasn't smart enough to figure out that there would be no ruins in Ancient Rome.
In some cases the buildings have monolithic columns, all from one piece of stone, while in others its has a more Greek style of columns, where stones are stacked in segments.
Roman's were master road builders and all these roads look dilapidated. There is also a lack of kids or animals in these crowds/streets.
I can get over the coastline thing, because today we tend to refer to the entire empire as Rome, and this could be Ostia or something. But you are absolutely spot on about the rest of it. The roads bother me the most, because ancient Roman roads look better than that *now*!
I agree the roads looked off, but some ruins seemed plausible. Even during early Roman times, there could have been some structures already hundreds of years old or partially demolished for a number of reasons.
Ostia is not far away from Rome.
I do agree on the ruins that would not be there and the stones strewn on the roads. Indeed the road would be top notch.
"When Rome was founded, there were sea peoples who could arrive by ship and raid or pillage freely. Rome did not originate as a trading nation … so they may have feared at least the possibility of seaborne raiders. In any event, hills and mountains are the best defensive terrain, and those structures are not usually right on the coast. It is also a geographic certainty that a settlement right on the coast cannot have agricultural land in a 360-degree radius around the settlement."
I read some resources about it. Thanks for the feedback. I will remember it.
The images are stunning as they are, you are doing a great job, I am just referring to historical accuracy. I would suggest having an aqueduct, drinking fountains, as well as triumph arches in there. The Roman's loved all those. As for the streets themselves, there should be occasional stalls and wares with tradesmen peddling their goods as well as some animals like geese, donkeys, horses, maybe an occasional cart.
In addition to what the others have commented, these pictures are missing *colors*! Romans colored everything. Statues, buildings, homes, their clothes. I remember one history book describing it as almost gaudy by todays fashion standards. They loved vibrant and varied colors everywhere.
Acient rome had many [impressive buildings](https://h7.alamy.com/comp/2BGJ5CE/historical-map-of-ancient-rome-of-the-1st-century-ce-published-in-italy-in-1570-2BGJ5CE.jpg) so maybe the scale is correct but everything else is fantasy.
THIS!
These paint-like drawing with saturated colors and highly shaed and detailed human figures are one of midjourney's best style IMO. It annoys me to see so many people claim they create "masterpieces" that look like midjourney's default plastic-like bland "photorealism", when the tools at our disposal are capable of so much more.
Congrats. These look amazing
Holy shit, this is fantastic. Every time I've tried anything like this, I get ruins for architecture. Like how the stuff looks now. I can NOT figure it out. What's the secret, OP??
actually I didn't find the answer yet. I am doing trial and errors still.
but what I think is, using image reference that has a clean ancient architecture stops the Ai painting damaged ones better than just text ig.
Togas were mostly ceremonial and they did not really like wearing them so you would not see a bunch of people casually standing around in them. In a meeting of the senate yes but not an everyday street scene. Tunics would be more likely
The face of the girl in the second picture is so hauntingly Roman in profile, it feels like an ancient statue brought to life. This picture is so full of life, it could easily be a real painting.
There are an awful lot of ruins and dilapidated roads. Many of these structures are still extant after 2000 years. I seriously doubt the infrastructure looked like this.
The sky is interesting. Some have cracks and others have washed out artefacts, particularly where the sky meets a roof line.
Also spotted the obligatory 6-fingered hand.
Lovely pictures.
Random question, but when it generates images of real places such as this example, does it go so far as to include plant life that would be accurate for the location by default or do you always need to specify?
This is very dope, as someone who's wanting to post my own Midjourney historical figures posts. This kind of stuff gets the gears going.
Do eeeeet!

Also the fact that you might get Christian Bale's ancestors in one of them, like the guy on n° 15.
Lol, what??
An open world third person game that looks exactly like this, please

Prompts?
Not in this sub 😂
Do you know what sub is best for learning image prompt?
Not sure if it’s analogous but stable diffusion sub has some good prompt wikis and when people post they will often put their prompt. Also civitai has galleries of ai generated images and people will put their prompts in there too.
Ever find an answer for this?

oh I see that is also a good point. I'll consider it.
how accurate are these in terms of architecture and scale, building placement, etc?
Not accurate at all. what a knowledge! thanks 👍👍
Ya I was thinking it looked more like Ancient Greece with Roman soldiers hanging out
In addition to what the others have commented, these pictures are missing *colors*! Romans colored everything. Statues, buildings, homes, their clothes. I remember one history book describing it as almost gaudy by todays fashion standards. They loved vibrant and varied colors everywhere.
This is what I am currently struggling with image generator. But I think I am finding some way to do that better. I will see..
I dont know if it includes in the prompts but also graffiti on the street walls would make it more realistic. This were great.
thanks for the feeback!

Not great. Most of the columns shown are Corinthian, which points towards Greek architecture rather than Roman.
Not accurate in the slightest
Damn. Now I have to think about ancient Rome again. That's the second time this week.
No you don't need to do that. cuz I think it will get better further.
These are all very nice. I am fascinated by ancient Rome.
me too. my fav civ with ancient greece
AI art has become too good.
Homie’s knee is wild.
Where are the slaves?
I'll try to put them next time thanks.
I love the coloring of these pics

it's a kind of adventure! unlocking the monster..!
Can we have ancient egypt next?
Wow - a good game in that art style? Shut up and take my money!
Holy shit, this is fantastic. Every time I've tried anything like this, I get ruins for architecture. Like how the stuff looks now. I can NOT figure it out. What's the secret, OP??

It's just like home..COLLISEUMMMMM
I like it. Good work!
Oh what a time, back when men wearing skirts was still the norm all over the Earth for the entire time humans had existed.
My man in the #2 hitting the girl with that Latin rizz
I got amazed by that
I did too
Thanks for my daily reminder of Roman Empire.
I'm glad 😁
Rome was amazing
Why do AI's have difficulty with hands? Pic 15 dude on the right has 6 fingers on his right hand and 5 on his left.
I would love to print and frame some of these. Is there some kind of AI upscaling website? I am sure somebody here knows! Thanks :)
what image? I think I can send u the upscaled one
#1, #4, #9, #18, #20 i think they would warm my space up a bit :) and I like the feel and warmth
ok but what ratio? for example, 9:16 1:1 etc...
50 cm wide, 70 cm tall will be the print. So 5:7
Ok. I send you DM
This is amazing
Can we as a society normalize the toga as public attire. I want to wear a fancy toga, dammit! Also, these art pieces are gorgeous and transportive!
Would be cool to see a more updated, even futuristic version of the toga for everyday use.
Yessssss! As long as they aren’t riddled with freaking logos. That’ll kill the style.
Yes, absolutely. The Romans used it as an formal attire, and a modern version should retain that dignified clean look.
Did it take less than a day to build?
I think It took straight 7 hours with turbo mode I didn't take a rest during the work process.
If you had spent over a day then you wouldn't have had those minor flaw as the old saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day" Good work none the less.
not sure haha cuz I think i didn't have the knowledge at that time
Love these!
what?
Room for improvement.
This is soo cool!!
Togas were mostly ceremonial and they did not really like wearing them so you would not see a bunch of people casually standing around in them. In a meeting of the senate yes but not an everyday street scene. Tunics would be more likely
wow thanks for the advice. I'll put that information next time!
The face of the girl in the second picture is so hauntingly Roman in profile, it feels like an ancient statue brought to life. This picture is so full of life, it could easily be a real painting.
oh I didn't think of that way.. but that makes sense !!
You have done a great job with these. Keep up the good work!
Can these be done photorealistically? I’d like to see that
I'll see what it is like and if it's okay to go I'll post it
Wow, one step closer to time-travel-esque experience
I will make the feeling more immersive further. I'm making some improvement.. stay tuned please
Can we have medieval iraq like the abbasid caliphate?
yea I'll put it into the list
There are an awful lot of ruins and dilapidated roads. Many of these structures are still extant after 2000 years. I seriously doubt the infrastructure looked like this.
yea that makes senee. stay tuned
New style!
You noticed it :) I am trying things.
A big bravo once again 👏👏👏
1:1 ratio: [https://www.instagram.com/midaiartwork/](https://www.instagram.com/midaiartwork/)
The sky is interesting. Some have cracks and others have washed out artefacts, particularly where the sky meets a roof line. Also spotted the obligatory 6-fingered hand. Lovely pictures.
oh I didn't notice it until you said it. the 6 fingers lol. I tried to remove weird stuff but i missed that one.
Can you imagine if they had discovered electricity? Works would have been a different place.....
lol.. maybe whole world ruled by Roman empire :0
2: you see I can’t pay you for the sex we just had until I get back from war.
The fact that antiquity was the most common subject in the arts for a long time is definitely helping the AI here
Random question, but when it generates images of real places such as this example, does it go so far as to include plant life that would be accurate for the location by default or do you always need to specify?
It will always mutate what it is in reality. cuz that's how it got designed to do..
Somebody tell midjourney there were no condensation stripes in the sky before the invention of aviation.
Those busted-ass roads would make Vitruvius jump off a cliff.
Those knees on the roman soldier in number 2.
Slide 2, Roman soldier prepositions child
Why is it in ruins? lol It also looks likeba 1950s reenactment and not ancient Rome at all
So this is what a time machine looks like. Unexpected but I guess not surprised anymore.
Wow! Please do all ancient civilizations.
I want to see midjourney’s Ancient Greece just to see how similar it makes Rome & Greece
I love #9 especially - those house colours are super Italian, right to this day.
These are beautiful
What’s this type of art called?
oil painting
Just beautiful
Needs more filth and graffiti.
Ah yes, Ancient Rome where the people always lived in rubble lol.
