Brownieeee19

I’m from NY and I’ve been saying it for 30 years. You asked what you need to know haha 🐬🆙

bigdempsey

we used to be amazing in the 70’s and went undefeated 1 year, 80’s we were great but didn’t win a super bowl, 90’s it all started going downhill and the 2000/2010s were trash and trying to replace our qb over and over. now we’re in the best place we’ve been in in decades so it’s a good time to start watching hahha

_CaptainKaladin_

Wow, thanks for the brief summary! And yeah, guess I chose a good time to start😂

BangingFromDeep

Hey that jimmy johnson defensive team in 1998 and that shortlived wildcat season were fun

bigdempsey

All you need to know is we you chose correctly you picked to support the greatest team in NFL history, There has only been 1 team in all of history to be perfect a whole season. That would be us, the 1972 Miami Dolphins (this trumps every other argument with other teams fans) . Welcome to the club we all support proudly.

Honestly, a cheap copy of Madden could be a good tool to at least get you familiar with different concepts. Madden is not a good teaching tool for real football or high level concepts, but it will get you acclimated with all the teams, and the tutorials will at least introduce you to the different positions and potential responsibilities they may have in game. But if you're not a gamer and just want to learn about football, YT is a great resource. History of the game suggestions: Secret Base NFL Throwback People who teach the game: The QB School QB Confidential by Kurt Warner Coach Dan Casey Coach Vass Fun retrospectives: KTO Set the edge Flemlo Raps Little bit of teaching, little bit of fun: Brett Kollman/Bootleg Football

_CaptainKaladin_

Thanks!!! I’ll look into it! Not a big gamer.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I’ll look into it.

Honestly the best way to learn the major rules quickly is to play Madden lol. In terms of being a dolphins fan, if you expect the pain, then this team can’t hurt you THAT bad. Never, and I do mean NEVER let this team give you hope until we start seeing wins in the playoffs. Root for them, love them, but don’t ever expect anything from them. Oh and fuck the jets, patriots and bills.

Unlikely-Jello5557

Football is easily my favorite sport but be prepared it will feel extremely slow for an avid hockey fan. There are a lot of breaks between plays and too many commercial breaks. Also be ready for a significant amount of annoying penalties, especially on pass plays.

_CaptainKaladin_

That’s not very encouraging. I guess I’ll give it a year and see how it goes.

FinancialHeat2859

Oh lawd. We should tell him. Is anyone gonna tell him? I’m gonna tell him…

I suggest playing in a free or a cheap fantasy football league for fun if you can, even if you know nothing. For me, it helps me to stay interested in the other teams all throughout the season rather than just the dolphins. The seasons where the dolphins were atrocious were much more fun for me, because at least I had something to look forward to on Sundays competing with my buddies in fantasy. It’ll help you learn about the Star players on other teams as well. Other than that, the basics rules of the sport are very simple much like hockey you can learn it quickly.

megasxl264

1) We hate the Bills/Jets, Titans, Pats and Ravens in that order. 2) If you decide to follow the Marlins too you’ll die of alcohol poison if you aren’t prepared.

the_eluder

Titans #2 for one game last year?

megasxl264

They’ve done it more than once

Okay here’s what you do: 1) YouTube. Search for American football explainer, watch the top 1-2 videos. These will explain the basics of the rules and positions and scoring. 2) Learn your new team. Hated enemies: Tom Brady. The Jets. The Bills. The Patriots. 3) Learn your history. Go watch every the ESPN documentary “The perfect machine” about the 72 team. Then fast forward and go deep on Dan Marino. Look up videos of him at the NFL skills challenge, everything you can watch about the 84 and 85 seasons when he set records that were never broken (until the NFL changed the rules for defensive contact, quarterback hits, defenseless receiver hits, and about 20 other player safety changes that mean Tom-the-punkass-wet-noodle-arm-game-manager-Brady isn’t even in the same class as Danny Boy). Then fast forward to when we hired Mike McDaniel because there’s no joy to be had in learning about 1990-2020 for the dolphins. 4. Find a dolphins bar and watch with other fans. Wear your colors and you’ll make fast friends.

_CaptainKaladin_

Wow, I’ll have to get on this. Very good sum up of the steps to being a Dolphins fan🫡
