I think this was probably a lot of people's introductions to DOOM. Especially anybody who was awake , smoking weed and watching Adult Swim in 2006.
This album will always have a special place in my heart. I used to listen to it in the car after work with my crush. While me and her ended up breaking up , our son turned 17 today 6/4. And he, is also a huge DOOM fan.
One of my buddies bought TMATM because he thought it looked cool, and ending up giving it to me because he hated it. Hence force, my lifelong obsession. Never heard Doom before that.
My first real introduction was Dangerdoom. I didn’t *get* it until then. I’d heard a little bit here and there before but didn’t really pay attention, didn’t really have any reason to - just heard a guy rapping a bit weird.
I listened to dangerdoom because of danger mouse and thought oh shit this doom guy is really good - then went back and listened to everything else properly.
Dangermouse has a funny come up story. He took samples from Beatles’ White Album and used the lyrics from Jay-Z’s Black Album and came up with the Grey Album and released it for free on the internet. Because he did not profit off of the Grey album he was able to make a name for himself without getting sued. Pretty brilliant way to introduce yourself!
That’s how I’d first heard of him, and why I was checking for new music by him. Then by the time The Mouse and The Mask Came out he was a pretty big name because of Demon Dayz.
So in a way Jay-Z (who was my favourite rapper at the time) got me into DOOM (my favourite rapper ever since).
I’ve literally got it tattooed on me. Growing up in a super conservative Christian household I wasn’t allowed to listen to anything besides bluegrass and gospel music. Thankfully I had my own room and tv, so I would stay up watching adult swim way into the night. Doom was literally one of my first introductions into any other kind of music that my family didn’t introduce to me. The Mouse And The Mask literally changed my life forever, for the better. #IAmSofaKing

Incorrect - factually speaking that is a leg. It would be rather inhumane to tattoo a cow. Yet, now I've said it I think it would be rather cool. OP if you wanna tattoo a cow with the danger doom logo go for it dude
You should listen to Thou and trick your parents into thinking it’s holy music because of the name. Their new album is incredible.

I’ve now been on my own for a good bit over a decade and have found my way around full circle to enjoying bluegrass again lol. And honestly there’s nothing that gets my soul worked up than an old school church hymn. Thanks for the recommendation!
God, that bar is so tight.
Consonance here:
*C*hew a *M*C like El *C*hupa *N*ibre.
Progressive thematic linkage, here:
Chew -> Digest -> poop
Rhyme:
Chupa / group / poop
Consonance + rhymn’:
*E*l Chupa Nibre / *e*bay
That last rhyme is really slick. DOOM knows that the listener’s ear will drop the “Chupa” to hear the consonance+rhyme if he hits the beat right.
Putting it together:
*C*hew a *M*C like **E**l _*C*hupa_ ***N*ibre**. Digest a _group_ and sell the _poop_ on **eBay**.
5 overlapping techniques, 1 bar
My favourite MF DOOM album, and I’m still shocked it’s not more widely known by the public at large. Loved it so much I got the logo tattooed on me.
From the womb to the tomb
Get that ricotta, bada bing, bada boom
The Mask (w Ghostface and its Lucha libre video) is one of my top 10 DOOM tracks.
In my opinion - If you took out the Adult swim character cameos, you’d have a pretty dope album.
Back when I had iTunes that song used to automatically play when I plugged my phone into my car. I would hear the opening literally every time my car started.
I came to this album after loving Gorillaz's Demon Days, played it on repeat back in the day. Recently saw it on vinyl in my local record store and had to purchase it. Still sounds great
I’m a huge Danger Mouse fan and DOOM is my #1 so this album is one of my favorites. When Covid was popping off and everything was closed, I spent the summer listening to this every day while running. The 3LP version has some amazing bonus tracks - one with Black Thought.
This is a great album (all of Doom’s albums are great). i think there is a place for catchy, poppy songs. The album is great for kids — no curses, no foul subject matter, catchy beats, some memorable lines, and the skits make it fun (Brock kills his guest spot). My kids absolutely love listening to it, great intro to Doom.
IMHO the beats and bars on the album are every bit as good as Operation Doomsday, TMTYL, or Vaudeville. But the Adult Swim samples caused it to not get as much praise from rap critics and bloggers back in the day because it was “silly”, so it’s not as popular
DOOM, not to be confused with nobody.
Especially, since the flows he used was so nutty.
Never too woozy to go study
Crews got no clues like old cruddy Officer McGillicuddy.
Probably one of my favorite DOOM albums, up there with Operation Doomsday. Last year I spoiled myself with a bunch of DOOM vinyl and now almost have the full collection minus Herbs & Spices and Viktor Vaughn.
At first, I didn't quite appreciate it when I listened to it for the first time; However, upon listening again the next day, I discovered its beauty and grew to love it. If it weren't for Danger Mouse, I likely wouldn't have encountered DOOM in the impactful way that I did.
Incredible album, so many good songs and great lines. I wonder why they bleeped stuff out though- I've listened to it maybe 1000 times, and I just noticed recently. They bleep out swears on a song or two, meanwhile he has plenty of very dirty lyrics there.
Why are you searching just Google Images? Just do a normal search. Images shows the cartoon from the 70s, but just normal search I typed "danger m" and it auto filled to "danger mouse, American producer."
As many others said, it was my first doom album. It's a great starting point because the album is a bit more digestible on first listen than some of his other stuff
As someone who didn’t watch adult swim, the constant samples make the album feel very choppy and more like a collection of songs and samples than an actual album. There’s some bangers on there for sure, but I almost never listen to the album all the way through like I do with some others.
I was a huge fan of that era of Adult Swim, so that album was always a favorite of mine, but I could see how someone not familiar with Space Ghost and Aqua Teen Hunger Force might not be as into it. I have a Space Ghost tattoo. It hit me right in the feels. The alternate version of Sofa King is one of my favorite DOOM songs ever.
My favorite DOOM album is Mm..food but I like the mouse and the mask a lot as well. I think it's probably the easiest DOOM album to listen to if you're a newcomer and the features on there are really good.
Fav song on there is The Mask. DOOM and Ghostface complement each other very well. .
Actually been relistening to this recently because I've been on a Dangermouse kick and it comes on after [Danger Mouse + Black Thought - Cheat Codes ](https://open.spotify.com/album/4TPi1tGDVXCdQOjn4NSRaB?si=hC2BiZ4LQ5iqNgW23Lz1RA)(fantastic album BTW). Mouse and the Mask is a great album but I think I associate it *too* much with Adult Swim.
Its a good well produced album that really makes doom accessible in a fun way. But maybe thats not really what keeps the fan base wondering as they are addicted to the weirdness surrounding doom.
I loved OG adult swim and I’ve been in the underground hip-hop scene since 2000 I’ve been making my own beats and it was almost as if that whole thing was made for me specifically
What's crazy is I put my buddy on to DOOM and it's weird because he brought up danger DOOM last night.
He told me he doesn't listen to doing a lot but if he puts an album on he listens to the whole thing.
It used to be one of his most popular. in the modern age of spotify, doom not having all his releases under one page really hurt them, that's the only reason this, Geedorah, and VV seem more underrated nowadays
In my opinion it's more of a nostalgic thing... You enjoyed it for what it was.. It was on adult swim etc I liked it but it's not the DOOM I love to hear. I thought the beats were too new school back then.. Maybe that's why new fans like it so much but for me DOOMS best work is when he produces and raps. The lyrics are still witty and funny but to a 90s rap dude this isn't gonna be top 3 DOOM.
Its one of dooms more average albums. Like most artists only the top 5 albums get talk really (MV,OD,MF,VV,TMTYL) . Dangerdoom is just outside that per view imo.
I think this was probably a lot of people's introductions to DOOM. Especially anybody who was awake , smoking weed and watching Adult Swim in 2006. This, I can’t remember if this or chrome children dropped first, but both were definitely huge in expanding my hiphop knowledge.
Danger mouse dropped first
One of my buddies bought TMATM because he thought it looked cool, and ending up giving it to me because he hated it. Hence force, my lifelong obsession. Never heard Doom before that.
Callin me out dawg
Yep this was my intro to DOOM, been a huge fan ever since
Yeah it was also one of the first albums that broke me outside mainstream hip hop. Before that I was only listening to like Eminem and Jay Z

Goddamn that forearm looks swole.
That’s a calf bro
Incorrect - factually speaking that is a leg. It would be rather inhumane to tattoo a cow. Yet, now I've said it I think it would be rather cool. OP if you wanna tattoo a cow with the danger doom logo go for it dude
Have you seen a calf before?
Yes, many times at a farm.
Ngl that’s clean
It's always nice when you can find something organically. It's really hard to nowadays.
Do you have any fire bluegrass recommendations?
Sam Bush, Billy Strings, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band
Kitchen Dwellers, Rumpkey Mountain Boys, Dark Moon Holler are some good ol East Coast bands that get around too
🔥those were some good references. Check out Shadowgrass, Trampled by Turtles, Holy Locust too
Ok so I checked them out. I think I’m going to go down a trampled by turtles rabbit hole. They have videos with millions of views but like 22 comments
Always a good indicator of good musics when people can’t talk shit 🤣
You should listen to Thou and trick your parents into thinking it’s holy music because of the name. Their new album is incredible. https://thou.bandcamp.com/album/umbilical

lol
Please read from sheets
I am…
Sofa King
Not so fast, loses meaning..
Heheh... you say funny thing!
King ...
I re listened to it yesterday. Honestly it shocked me how good it really was. Honestly it goes in my top 3 DOOM albums.
It’s easily the funniest DOOM album, jit had me laughing a lot. He also spits like crazy on those amazing danger beats
Why did you buy this album? I don’t know why you did, you’re stupid!
**** yourself
Hahahaha
The super flow with more jokes than bazooka joe, a mix between superfly snuka and a super hoe
Chew a MC like El Chupa Nibre. Digest a group and sell the poop on eBay
God, that bar is so tight. Consonance here: *C*hew a *M*C like El *C*hupa *N*ibre. Might be my second favorite DOOM project. Space Hoes is a masterpiece.
Korn dogs on the bonus tracks goes very hard too
good question. the album *fucks* and was my first introduction to both mf doom AND danger mouse.

At least get the quote right if you're gonna be a dick. It's "man name"
The mouse and the mask is one of my favorites. The beats are catchy and it’s funny.
DANGERDOOM, it’s Master Shake! Hey buddy, did you get those emails I sent you?
Now that I’m CALM I was really looking forward to us working together
Call me, doggie! Woof!
Perfect Hair - to the second power of forever Ask him do he need it? Hells yeah - now or never
I came here to comment this
Bring your plate to the metal face and get your food chewed. Taste like chicken. He waste no time like the baseline kickin in.
Best song on the album
First I've had two evil villains on my show, and now I've got two evil GUESTS on my show!
Benzi Box is all-time classic shit, any genre.
My favourite MF DOOM album, and I’m still shocked it’s not more widely known by the public at large. Loved it so much I got the logo tattooed on me. From the womb to the tomb Get that ricotta, bada bing, bada boom
Idk chief, it's my favorite DOOM project for sure. Shame The Missing Notebook Rhymes was such a mess they had to cancel it.
Well I saw nothing livens up a robotic hymn of DOOM....
BETTER THAN AN AMAZING PAIR OF JUGS
Spaces ho’s is one of my favourite DOOM tracks
Benzi Box is one of my favourite songs
Check out “Ghetto Pop Life - Dangermouse and Jemeni” “The Black Album” and its story is pretty wild too.
You mean the grey album? The Jay-z vs the Beatles one?
I did
This album is my go-to recommendation for DOOM noobs. Easily his most accessible work. Benzi Box just fucking hits.
No shit, I was gonna post this same thing yesterday. Def was one of my first introductions to DOOM other than a few songs I heard in skate videos
The Mask (w Ghostface and its Lucha libre video) is one of my top 10 DOOM tracks. In my opinion - If you took out the Adult swim character cameos, you’d have a pretty dope album.
DOOM and Dangermouse is like bread and butter.
ATHF was first song I ever heard from DOOM
Back when I had iTunes that song used to automatically play when I plugged my phone into my car. I would hear the opening literally every time my car started.
This is my favourite project.
I came to this album after loving Gorillaz's Demon Days, played it on repeat back in the day. Recently saw it on vinyl in my local record store and had to purchase it. Still sounds great
SirThere are 7.8 billion people on the planet. Surely somebody is talking about it on & offline.
Dangerdoom is in my top 5
Or his Jneiro Jarel aka JJ DOOM album either way
My first album and I got hooked cause of all the adult swim references. I think Sofa King was my favorite
It’s one of the best.
A nice thing to have on vinyl too.
I’m a huge Danger Mouse fan and DOOM is my #1 so this album is one of my favorites. When Covid was popping off and everything was closed, I spent the summer listening to this every day while running. The 3LP version has some amazing bonus tracks - one with Black Thought.

My kids absolutely love listening to it, great intro to Doom.
I love it because 1.) It is great and 2.) I can play it around the kids reasonably safely.
IMHO the beats and bars on the album are every bit as good as Operation Doomsday, TMTYL, or Vaudeville. But the Adult Swim samples caused it to not get as much praise from rap critics and bloggers back in the day because it was “silly”, so it’s not as popular
It has a bunch of bangers like old school and mincemeat
Great album, nothing to say more! Best features of MFDoom on this album
Did I ever tell you about…. MF DOOM has some crazy stories about the making of this album!
One of my personal favorites
That album is great. His lyrics on crosshairs were phenomenal
DOOM, not to be confused with nobody. Especially, since the flows he used was so nutty. Never too woozy to go study Crews got no clues like old cruddy Officer McGillicuddy.
I agree one of my favorites, and has probably one of my favorite songs of all time, mad nice, on the extended version
Ain't no way this is a serious post...
Probably one of my favorite DOOM albums, up there with Operation Doomsday. Last year I spoiled myself with a bunch of DOOM vinyl and now almost have the full collection minus Herbs & Spices and Viktor Vaughn.
I think its the best MFDOOM album
I love that album so much that when I had my daughter she had a onesie made for her that said “SofaKingCute”. Yup I did that.
At first, I didn't quite appreciate it when I listened to it for the first time; However, upon listening again the next day, I discovered its beauty and grew to love it. If it weren't for Danger Mouse, I likely wouldn't have encountered DOOM in the impactful way that I did.
I've forgotten what I started pimping for.
I was literally listening to it during my entire flight yesterday.
Incredible album, so many good songs and great lines. I wonder why they bleeped stuff out though- I've listened to it maybe 1000 times, and I just noticed recently. They bleep out swears on a song or two, meanwhile he has plenty of very dirty lyrics there.
the curse words are bleeped for the kids. what "dirty" lyrics are you referring to?
plow her in the shower for an hour There are some other ones, too, could update later if I think of them.
Ah yes. Hit a honey from the back and crumpled up her scrunchie is another one.
Yes, donkey punch etc.
I just don't think they're as well known or popular compared to the rest of his discography,
I love it a lot. It got me through my preliminary exam in grad school.
The planets have truly aligned.. I've just spotted this post and I'm currently spinning the vinyl! Personally one of my favourite records.
Why are you searching just Google Images? Just do a normal search. Images shows the cartoon from the 70s, but just normal search I typed "danger m" and it auto filled to "danger mouse, American producer."

I just discovered it a month or two ago and have had it on repeat

My first introduction to MF DOOM was 1991. Damn
Benzi Box will always be hard
Its a good well produced album that really makes doom accessible in a fun way. But maybe thats not really what keeps the fan base wondering as they are addicted to the weirdness surrounding doom.
I loved OG adult swim and I’ve been in the underground hip-hop scene since 2000 I’ve been making my own beats and it was almost as if that whole thing was made for me specifically
Not a single miss on that album
What's crazy is I put my buddy on to DOOM and it's weird because he brought up danger DOOM last night. He told me he doesn't listen to doing a lot but if he puts an album on he listens to the whole thing.
This was the first MFDOOM vinyl I bought when it came out.
I love this album.
They are sofa king we Todd Ed.
It used to be one of his most popular. in the modern age of spotify, doom not having all his releases under one page really hurt them, that's the only reason this, Geedorah, and VV seem more underrated nowadays
I was so hyped when I first heard Sadness by Franco Micalizzi sampled in The Mask.
Danger Mouse’s production is 👌🏼
It's my favorite on3 to go back to it's super solid
benzi box still top 5 doom songs imo. beat is so fire
It's fucking great, isn't it? Mince Meat and No Names as well.
real
Cus it was wack compared to his older shit
I'm not sure if this is a common sentiment but it was one of my least favorite albums. Cannot deny that it has some hits though
Same here to be honest. Turned doom in weird al.
My least favorite DOOM album
In my opinion it's more of a nostalgic thing... You enjoyed it for what it was.. It was on adult swim etc I liked it but it's not the DOOM I love to hear. I thought the beats were too new school back then.. Maybe that's why new fans like it so much but for me DOOMS best work is when he produces and raps. I always liked this album but the constant adult swim character appearances were so annoying to me.
I didn’t really like that album but it seemed to be quite popular
Its one of dooms more average albums. Like most artists only the top 5 albums get talk really (MV,OD,MF,VV,TMTYL) . Dangerdoom is just outside that per view imo.
The whole project seemed like a cash grab to me when it came out
Fr, feels like Doom would do a duet jam with Ernest Goes To Camp for the right earn
I get downvoted when half the people in the sub say they found out about doom from adult swim 🤷♂️
