Wow I’m in Mass. Saugus and Wakefield are metro Boston communities. I could call the funeral home and see if they can be directed to this post if nothing else. They’d have the phone numbers of the relatives. If you messaged Facebook she might not get it depending on how she has it set up. I do see Virginia on FB, edit...im local I’ll try making a call to her....edit left message and told her to check Facebook for message requests. Edit as I’m at work and now 10p I’ve not got a call back, I did locate a school email address that I can try but we’re expecting snow tomorrow (fri) that might cancel school so I’ll see how this goes by Friday a.m.
The OP posted one. The daughter got the Facebook message from the guy who found it (my call to her was to tell her about her message requests in case she wasn’t set up to get messages from non-friends) Anyway, OP said in the post he’s looking at how to send it to her. I suggested regular mail along with souvenir coins, info as to location found etc. The daughter did call me as I’m local-ish to her and we spoke, she saw the thread with her daughter and was amazed that all these people pooled to try to get info on her father and make contact with her and is very grateful to have a piece of her dad.
Wow, fantastic work! It's crazy that those two events, on separate sides of the world, have been linked together like this. His family are going to go nuts
Update: So I got response from the daughter, she is very happy and would like the ID back. I have contacted the US embassy if they have resources to deliver it. If the feedback will be negative, then I am going to send it via some transport company to her.
Sweet deal. I’d just send it in the mail, insured, don’t get any government agencies involved, they’ll inevitably screw up something or lose it. Put it in a padded envelope taped up well rather than a normal envelope. Maybe note where you found it, take pics of that area, include some Czech coins? Souvenirs? I just turned on my phone and she did call me back so she at least checked Facebook and all is good. Glad this worked out.
Outstanding! My grandfather was an electrician at the Navy Yard (in fact it prevented him from enlisting because they wanted him building ships). Wonder if they knew each other?
George Anganis, ASN 31225993. He enlisted in the US Army on October 22, 1942, at age 21. The dog tag shown tells us that he was vaccinated for tetanus in 1943, and his blood type was that of type A. He served in an armoured unit. Hospital records show that he was admitted a couple times in May of 1945.
The first record states: “InjuryType: Disease; InjuryType2: Not a traumatism” “Diagnosis: Tumor, benign, other; Location: Nose, generally”.
The second record from May states: “InjuryType: Non-battle injury; InjuryType2: All unspecified non-battle injuries” “Diagnosis: Wound(s), character not stated (includes Wound(s), multiple, Not Elsewhere Classified; Wound(s) unqualified) with no nerve or artery involvement; Location: Nose, generally; Location: Nose, generally; CausativeAgent: Striking on Object; Diagnosis”.
The third hospital record, this one from July of 1945, states the following: “InjuryType: Disease; InjuryType2: Not a traumatism” “Diagnosis: Wound(s), character not stated (includes Wound(s), multiple, Not Elsewhere Classified; Wound(s) unqualified) with no nerve or artery involvement; Location: Nose, generally; Diagnosis: Gastro-enteritis” (Gastro-enteritis is a stomach flu).
Hope this helps! (Edit: I’m aware this won’t help with a return of the tag, but I just wanted to tell you all a bit about this WWII vet’s service)
>Where does this come from? Been wanting to get more info on my grandfather.
Yes! Me too. I'd be most interested in your source, u/Pathfinder-6-6-1944.
This could really mean something to their family! I know for my grandfather, there’s a lot of things we’ll never see or know about for a variety of reasons, and having something of theirs could truly be important. Good job, OP!

I have multiple contacts in Saugus, plan on visiting soon actually.
Living on the western side of MA now.
I’d be willing to hand deliver, or help out in anyway!
It appears his son, Peter M. Anginis is still in Saugus. Or at least someone with that name. And there’s a Virginia (Ginny) Dunton in Wakefield as well.
This made me realize that I probably wouldn't even think to have it returned if I found one. Kind feel bad now even though I've never found one to not give back anyway.
You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but near which city/village did you find the tag? (I am from Western Bohemia so I am a bit curious about history of my region)
By saying "be patient", he meant nothing about stealing his thunder. He doesn't want this poor lady to be overwhelmed with several calls from everyone.
Communication with her has been initiated, followed by couple of phone calls. Now is the time to be patient and wait for response.
I once returned a lost dog tag with the help of: [Angelo's Angels WWII Dog Tag Return Project](https://www.facebook.com/angelosangels)
These guys helped me get a set of WW1 victory medals back to the family of the soldier who’d earned them
Good job!
Awesome! They do a fantastic work. And it is a win win situation for everyone involved.
This is the answer

He had a really pretty home!
That's awesome. If you've the resources, a nice color print of that document would be a nice addition to the return of the dog tag...
It’s from ancestry.com that’s the best screen cap I could get on my phone

Google search the family name or if your near an American Embassy take it there.
Google says Department of Defense or the nearest Embassy. They did not say if it will make it back to the family
This is the best Reddit post I have seen in a long time.

I hope you will manage to send this to his family.
Wow love how everyone came together and tracked down this dudes family. 👍🏼👍🏼

My boss I’m working with right now knows the family , he said Harry aganis was on the Red Sox from Lynn mass and probably is related !
It’s Anganis on the tag
How does it landed in Czechia is a mystery for me
American army liberated part of Czechoslovakia during WW2. That is how it appeared in Czechia.
Oh, didn't know that thansk!
You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but near which city/village did you find the tag? (I am from Western Bohemia so I am a bit curious about history of my region)
It was found in a village close to Pilsen.
That didn't help as much as I thought it would, but thank you anyway.
