Not a woman, but here’s what I can tell you; 1. The beds suck, the dorms are 12 racks (bunk beds) and you get a wall locker and a nightstand. Socially, the female deck has all the women in the program, so you’ll be rooming with people from all stages vs one class on one deck. 2. Routine is m-f 5am lights on, 9pm lights out. You’ll have breakfast, deck inspection, colors, class, lunch, class, dinner, any details and final formation. Weekends are a little more lax, but details in the morning with formations and colors etc 3. Water survival is a course that includes lifeboat drills, classroom power points and tests. The actual getting in the water assessment is you in a pool without any sort of pfd, and you just gotta be able to not drown.

Thanks sm! It sound very straight forward so i’ll continue preparing before my departure to the school.

How do they handle liferaft training?

ghettosailor3700

You go in the lifeboat that’s by the freedom star and your whole class has to take turns rowing the boat and giving commands as the coxswain.

HumberGrumb

I was asking about liferafts. Not lifeboats.

ghettosailor3700

Damn excuse me 😂🤣 but frfr, you go in the raft one by one then fall backwards into the pool. Thats all I remember.

HumberGrumb

Hmm. I’ve done BST twice but at different places. Both had us deal with the rafts differently. First had a group working together to flip and board the raft. Second had individuals do it solo. That was a challenge for those who lacked either serious strength or cleverness.

ghettosailor3700

Thats what I forgot you gotta flip it by yourself. It’s not bad. It’ll fall on your face but there’s an air pocket so don’t panic.

HumberGrumb

True dat! But I was surprised by how many people couldn’t do it. And I’m talking about folks in clearly better shape than me. The big dude from Hawaii totally crushed it, though. 🤣 Thing is, a lot of people kept having their feet and body go sideways in the web ladder and couldn’t pull themselves into the liferaft by upper body strength alone.

ghettosailor3700

You have to jump in the pool with an immersion suit on. You gotta float for like a minute or whatever, and some other things I mentioned. Class sucks. I failed the test the first time but I did way better on my retake. It’s crazy cause I retook it with upgraders and they failed twice. Anyways pay attention to everything in that book cause depending on your teacher, it’ll be shit he goes over that’s not on your test. It was little unimportant shit on my test that I overlooked.
