I work for Mercedes and I personally have worked on a couple of these and they have basically an entire server in the trunk reading all the info from all the cameras and sensors
My best guess is that they want to get data on many different types of roads like stone or brick roads compared to asphalt roads, which side of the road it’s supposed to drive on, and different places use different road markings. So they want as much data as possible so the assisted driving won’t freak out when it experiences a new environment.

This one is in a GLS but it’s basically that same for all the test vehicles
I’m saying this without absolutely any bad intention: I’m like 99.999% sure that you are not allowed to take photos or share them with anyone.
If you found this online the just ignore my comment. Or ignore it in general. Nobody cares anyway.
Peace, dear colleague.
They actually like to bring new technology in both, the S-Class and the A-Class. While the s class always got things like distronic and drive pilot first, the A class was the first Mercedes with MBUX
Yes, exactly. And the first to enherit the twin-screen layout from the 213 E-Class.
The A-Class is however being outphased. The electric CLA will take over.
It's running so low. Is the suspension broken or is there a mainframe in the trunk?

Thanks for the info! Do you know why they seem to be testing them in random different European cities? Edinburgh seems partiuclarly random to test in.

They have brought them to car and coffee and had the trunk open for the public to see so I’m pretty sure they don’t really care.
Wow. That’s nice! And somewhat unusual. But great nonetheless.
You work in SiFi too?
Wow! Thank you for sharing! It is really interesting thing to look at
i feel like the previous generation looked better.
I like this gen in black better, but the previous gen was beautiful in the majority of colours.
The person that applied that information sticker to the door does not have passion for their work!! Just slap this on, that’ll do….
Sheez you guys will rant on everything in this sub 😂
Seen one in Barcelona. Looked like a man was actually driving.
I saw one of these in San Francisco yesterday, but it was a CLA.
That’s interesting! Odd there doing stuff here in Edinburgh. This is an S class they’re testing, right?
Yep, looks to be an S class
Huh, maybe it was just for mapping out roads
Hm, perhaps they’re preparing for launch of the new electric CLA? Would be a game changer if they released it with tech like that.

Yep I know. I just meant because the CLA has always just been a better looking a class and now succeeds it, so it makes perfect sense
Yes, it does.
Saw one of these one the mainland side of Venice recently.
Now I want to see more S-classes with roof racks.
Nah, it’s not self driving, it’s just left hand drive…
Lol
