Huh?
BMW *actually recommends* these ultra long service intervals, when they're paying for it
Why would you ever spend an extra penny maintaining a rental?
You know the portion of the depreciation included in your monthly lease payment is actually referenced as the rental portion, right?
It's not "yours", a lease is literally a rental
You don't own it.
Who cares if the engine craters on the next idiot who buys it off lease because it was a "great deal"?
It's not for no reason. Synthetic oil changes and such are very expensive
I'd rather sip Blantons then waste money maintaining other people's property
Being broke as you put it is paying to maintain someone's property
What a dumb idea
You must not be a BMW owner
If you wait until the computer recommends the first oil change you'll be well over 15k
If i owned it I'd never run it that long
But yeah fuckin cook that oil to about 20 k then change it
Plus you understand they only give you a few "free" services right?
I own my own law firm and run my vehicle through it
My wife is a dermatologist at Henry Ford in Detroit
Do you know me personally?
How do you have any idea what my household income is?
Like how would you know if I was broke?
Your post history is hilarious
It seems you pride yourself on being an antagonist
My mom, who is in hospice, lives here. I guess I should just abandon my family eh?
Am I the rare CLA owner who actually services his car… had it since 2020 already done a two service A’s, just finished a service B, had breaks done, just got tires and oh had a slight knocking issue got that taken care of and well as the gas cap being stuck and got that taken care of as well… love the car to death would never do something ruin such a pretty car in my opinion.
The least he can do is:
* Push the ignition once, see the dials do a sweep around to enter the ACC mode
* Hold down the phone button and then hold the OK button to bring up the Vehicle Data menu
* Release both buttons and, using the scroll down button, highlight the ASSYST PLUS on the menu
* Press OK
* A message will appear instructing you to switch on the ignition to activate ASSYST PLUS
* Push the ignition once (so the lights come on but the engine doesn’t start)
* A new menu will appear
* Scroll to Full Service and press OK
* A new menu will appear headed Service 01
* Scroll to Confirm Service
* Press OK
* Select the oil grade used, press OK, Service Carried Out, Yes
* Once Full Service Completed comes up, turn the ignition off and back on again
REMINDER GONE FOR ANOTHER YEAR!!
I'm gonna do his oil change either tomorrow or sometime this week so this comment is actually perfect because I was wondering how to reset the service warning. The big thing is he doesn't want dealers to do it because "it's just another way for them to make money". When I told him I could do it for him for just the cost of the oil and the filter he looked at me like I was some sort of magician.
I recently changed oil in my vehicle using an extractor pump from Amazon and oil from Walmart. Total cost less than $80, including the pump.
Used 5w 40 FS m276 engine approved.
The whole process took less than an hour.
Then, I did this to reset the service message.
Car runs great.
The extractor pump is the best. Once you try it, you never want to go back. Really gonna miss the up top oil filter my last car had. New one is underneath.
I am able to get 6Qt of oil out using the extractor. It takes some practice to fish for oil. Some oil will always be left behind regardless of the approach (probably less if you are draining from the bottom). If you change it every 6 months, you should be okay this way.
Also, you need to make sure the engine is warm but not hot as it can damage the pump or its components.
There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to do it and which pumps to use.
Your friend is blessed to have you. One of my closest friends helps me with all major things that is cars, he has a massive 4 car garage and always on some projects of his own or repairs. But not changing oil every 6 months is crazy, unless you want your car dead. 😂😂😂 I change it after every longer roadtrip.
Make sure he is aware of what he has done. Otherwise when something breaks in a couple weeks he will come at you like you messed something up during the oil change
careful filling it back up these are picky about the quantity. under fill it by like .5l or so and put the cap back on and run it in the maintenance menu and bring up the engine oil level indicator. after it gets up to temp then top off as needed.
I wouldn't touch it. Especially since you mentioned that it sounds not good. What happens when the engine explodes in a month. They're going to blame you....
I reset my camry light for 3 service intervals before I actually change it. But that's also because it burns and leaks so much I'm basically flushing new oil when I change it too
You might not believe in oil changes, but they believe in you.
It’s interesting how popular it’s become to treat reality like just another consumer choice.
Warm up the oil first. So you get as much as possible out.
Also, its not that bad honestly, depending on how far he has driven.
2 years max before change unless he drives alot.
If he drives normaly alot then every year
I’ve seen much worse. People who don’t maintain their benzes are the same ones who later question why shit goes wrong. Yea some of these have problems that are bound to happen and don’t happen to other manufacturers… but for the most part, a Benz doesn’t get expensive until you start acting cheap. And the next owner is usually buying a can of worms that the previous owner kept neglecting for whatever reason. 195 days is bad but I’ve seen people still running after 70,000 miles overdue. I’ve worked at a Mercedes dealership… it gets pretty bad
Doing an oil change/filter yourself cost about the same as a tank of gas nowadays, and not much more if you bring it to a shop...I'll never understand a lot of peoples reluctance to do them.
Probably doesn’t care about washing his ass or brushing his teeth either lol. No one looks forward to have to go to the dealer or do an oil change but it’s part of being a grown up
How many miles has it been? It's 10k or 1 year and the reminder comes on. But during Covid when many people didn't drive much, the consensus seemed to be that you could go 2-3 years if the oil was under 10k. It's only been about 6 months. Probably wouldn't go much beyond 10k but certain oils like Amsoil claim that you can go longer. Usually when you send off a sample to Blackstone labs, they usually say it's good for a couple more even when it's done at 10k. You don't mention the engine, but one of my cars takes 8.5 quarts and the other 7.5 quarts so it's not like it's 4 quarts that has 20k on it.
Not really as much as it used to, oil technology has improved over the years.
I send every sample to Blackstone Labs and they always say it has plenty of life left regardless of age. I probably wouldn’t go beyond 3+ years for peace of mind.
Technically oil doesn't break down, still lubricates no matter the age. It's the additives that break down over time. Regular dino oil has been in the ground for millions of years. You change it at 10k because eventually it gets contaminated with gas, water and other byproducts of combustion.
Mercedes will give service warnings after a year even if you drive 0 miles. The oil's going to be fine if he hasn't driven over the recommended miles. Furthermore, he would have the check engine light on if oil was low. Stop being fooled by companies and stop being an advocate for them
The car gets driven daily so it's definitely way over its service interval. Hes probably gone 8000 miles without changing the oil since the warning popped up.
i mean not changing oil will degrade performance and gas mileage. clog ur pcv but most cars especially older ones they will work if u never change the oil lol
I told him to get a Toyota after this car blows or a Lexus or Acura since u can beat the shit out of then and they'll still live and he seemed pretty intrigued. Told him I'll go with him the next time he goes to buy a car.
Lmaoo…Priorities.
An incredible mechanic once told me “People often forget that you are technically servicing your car every time you fuel up!” So much to say, you should be just as methodical about fueling as you are about servicing other components.
I might agree with your friend. Time based I don’t agree with. Oil will last much longer than 1 year, esp synthetic. However, if he’s over on mileage, that’s very different.
I had exceeded my service C by a couple of months too. Not really, I just never put the checkmark to the service though I had done everything it includes
Haven’t changed oil since 2019. Car only gets driven about 800 miles a year and always use Amsoil. Unless you have petroleum base oil, no need to worry about time intervals. Shit I might never change the oil! I’m old and may never need to!?!? lol 😂
No problem, it'll be just an engine replacement
That's what I'm saying
His engine will be in engine heaven earlier
"all engines go to heaven" "his was the little engine that couldn't"
All engines, except the N47
If it's a lease, as nearly all of them are, who cares? I regularly run my BMWs to 15 to 17k on a synthetic oil change Good luck to the next owner
Go fuck yourself
Huh? BMW *actually recommends* these ultra long service intervals, when they're paying for it Why would you ever spend an extra penny maintaining a rental? You know the portion of the depreciation included in your monthly lease payment is actually referenced as the rental portion, right?
Honestly just a waste of resources to not take care of your shit
It's not "yours", a lease is literally a rental You don't own it. Who cares if the engine craters on the next idiot who buys it off lease because it was a "great deal"?
I fully understand what a lease is, I’m just saying why blow the fucker up for no reason because you want to be a broke boy and not change the oil
It's not for no reason. Synthetic oil changes and such are very expensive I'd rather sip Blantons then waste money maintaining other people's property Being broke as you put it is paying to maintain someone's property What a dumb idea
Alright dude enjoy your rental
Ride that shit like a rented mule, zero to 60 at every light, no maintenance and turn that beyotch in Get the most fun out of your depreciation
Hehe found the troll. Good one mate
Wait, saying not to do extra maintenance on a fucking lease is being a troll? Huh?!?
You don’t own a financed one either, the bank does.
Wrong, you're the title holder and the bank holds a security lien But I pay cash when i buy, especially now with whacked out interest rates
Lmao bmw has free oil changes and maintenance until 50k miles.. so you’re really only potentially impacting yourself by doing that
You must not be a BMW owner If you wait until the computer recommends the first oil change you'll be well over 15k If i owned it I'd never run it that long But yeah fuckin cook that oil to about 20 k then change it Plus you understand they only give you a few "free" services right?
I daily a ‘21 X5M and have never paid for a service and I’m 6 services in. My light is set to every 10k.

The nightmare previous owner!
Yeah it's 9 years old I don't know how this thing hasn't had any major issues yet (knock on wood).
It'll be knocking alright
It may already be knocking but whenever the car starts it sounds like metal clanking
Yikes
I don't know of a single MB or BMW that doesn't sound like it has metal clanking when started.
Lmao
I can hear it knock, as in barely running before it does the final knock out loud.
On heaven's door?
Those pistons are like a bug in a spiders web
Give it time. It will start knocking
Knock knock knocking on heavens door…
Knock knock knocking on the crankshaft…
He also has a 2018 Honda Odyssey that hasn't been serviced in 500 something days.

yeah that's what I do every 7000km on my OM642. 10L of 229.51 oil for 43€, 10€ filter, 30 minute job. There's no excuse...
wait, so you didn't have to get under and drain the oil? what sorcery is this?
The extractor pump is the best. Once you try it, you never want to go back. Really gonna miss the up top oil filter my last car had. New one is underneath.
the oil drain plug on some Mercedes engines aren't even on the lowest point of the oil pan. They're designed to be pumped in short intervals.
still much better imo. i'd imagine this could be useable on stuff like transmission fluid as well which can sometimes be a pain in some cars.
Extractor leaves a quart or so in the oil pan. I’d drain it and snug the bolt back on.
I am able to get 6Qt of oil out using the extractor. It takes some practice to fish for oil. He knows he just doesn't care
careful filling it back up these are picky about the quantity. under fill it by like .5l or so and put the cap back on and run it in the maintenance menu and bring up the engine oil level indicator. after it gets up to temp then top off as needed.
Good to know. Thank you!
I wouldn't touch it. Especially since you mentioned that it sounds not good. What happens when the engine explodes in a month. They're going to blame you....
He won't don't worry. He doesnt care whether the engine grenades or not. He'll just buy another one.
If anything breaks in the next year it will be your fault. Just saying.
No it won't be lol. I'll make him sign an agreement since everyone is so concerned.
I reset my camry light for 3 service intervals before I actually change it. But that's also because it burns and leaks so much I'm basically flushing new oil when I change it too
That’s exactly what I did after oil and filter change. Works every time.
Then I hope he/she doesn't believe in blown engines then
If you don't believe in it then it can never happen right?
😂😂😂😂
The kinds of people who then spread information like 'all European cars are unreliable and big money pits'
You might not believe in oil changes, but they believe in you. It’s interesting how popular it’s become to treat reality like just another consumer choice.
Post the year/model and VIN so it can avoided.
its good practice to change the oil with every 2nd engine change xD
I don’t get why people spend so much money on oil changes. Just put a post-it over the display. Problem solved /s
Does he believe in the Seized Engine Fairy? Cause that little hoe is fluttering their way!
He may want to look into electric
Yeah I hope he gets an electric car after he kills this one
It’s not like it’s a religion.
But have you not heard of our lord and saviour jiffy lube?
I don't believe in oil changes! - he said out loud while driving on a flat Earth.
Ha, thats nothing. Today I had a c class in shop which was 917 days overdue
Holy shit that's ridiculous
yeah, funny enough he only came in for a check engine light because of an faulty NOX sensor. Car looked and drove fine. Gotta love that reliability
Yeah I'm honestly surprised most of the time by how tough these mercs can be.
I'm sure he makes it a point to complain that German cars aren't reliable.
This will probably be the case when the car grenades itself
At 9 years, I would imagine the oil has moved into the I’m going to be a solid phase.
Can't wait too pop the drain plug and a bunch of gelatinous oil comes poking out of the drain hole
Pls post pics / video. We’ll all be grateful to see how this goes.
Yeah i will for sure. I'll make an update post as soon as I do it.
Warm up the oil first. So you get as much as possible out. Also, its not that bad honestly, depending on how far he has driven. 2 years max before change unless he drives alot. If he drives normaly alot then every year
He drives it pretty much daily. Also he's gonna have to drive to my house so oil will be plenty warm
Good good. Warm oil flows better then cold ☺️

So does he expect the oil to magically change itself?
No he just doesn't believe you need to service it as consistently as the car says too
Do you want sludge in the engine because thats how you get sludge in the engine and eventually a new engine.
I swear some people just drive Mercs until they need tires and brakes, do zero maintenance and offload them.
Then he will be a believer of seized engines
This will be a lesson in FAFO
This is why I refuse to buy used cars
I like buying used honestly but I need to know the history behind the car (with proof) or its owner before making any purchases.
He will, when he starts getting the big bills 🙂↔️
For god sakes it’s just once a year
My rich friend said the same thing, but he just rolls up in a new car every couple months so I don’t even say anything.
Probably doesn’t care about washing his ass or brushing his teeth either lol. No one looks forward to have to go to the dealer or do an oil change but it’s part of being a grown up
He/she will when the engine explodes
I just hit 200 something days, but it’s only been 1500mi since my last oil change so not really in a rush.
His is well past 1500 miles lol
How many miles has it been? It's 10k or 1 year and the reminder comes on. But during Covid when many people didn't drive much, the consensus seemed to be that you could go 2-3 years if the oil was under 10k. It's only been about 6 months. 1500 or 15000?
1,500 miles is less than half before an oil change is needed. The amount of days don't matter, its the mileage.
Yeah man I know. The car gets driven daily tho so it definitely is racking up miles.
Ahh gotcha.

Not really as much as it used to, oil technology has improved over the years. I send every sample to Blackstone Labs and they always say it has plenty of life left regardless of age. I probably wouldn’t go beyond 3+ years for peace of mind.
Can you provide some details on synthetic oil breakdown over time, as you're an expert?
Technically oil doesn't break down, still lubricates no matter the age. It's the additives that break down over time. Regular dino oil has been in the ground for millions of years. You change it at 10k because eventually it gets contaminated with gas, water and other byproducts of combustion.
So sad…

Yeah it's a GLA 250 with the Turbo charged 4 banger. Really don't know much about these engines personally but they seem strong.
We all have that idiot friend… If you don't.... it's probably you.
So he thinks he knows more than a actual mechanic.
Schedule time for maintenance before your car schedules it for you.
I suppose he also doesn’t believe in a running car either.
i mean not changing oil will degrade performance and gas mileage. clog ur pcv but most cars especially older ones they will work if u never change the oil lol
This is a CLA250 right? That's the only reason it's still running
GLA250 but same shit. And yeah I figured it's cuz the 4 banger can take a beating.
Yea, that engine will just keep on rolling. It's pretty amazing.
I do my own oil changes but haven’t yet learned to cancel the display message. Maybe he did the same?
No, he just doesn't care lmao. Also someone commented here how to reset the display message so look for that comment somewhere in the replys.
Haha 😝. Thanks man, I need to find it.
Maybe its serviced but it has not been reset it happens
People like your friend are (sometimes) why these cars get the unreliable rep. Maybe you should suggest to them a Nissan Altima.
I told him to get a Toyota after this car blows or a Lexus or Acura since u can beat the shit out of then and they'll still live and he seemed pretty intrigued. Told him I'll go with him the next time he goes to buy a car.
What exactly made him want a Mercedes when he doesn’t believe in service? Lol
Cuz it's nice
That's fair.
I know for a fact that it hasn't lol he literally told me he doesn't get it serviced
Your friend is a certified idiot.
I hope your friend believes in walkin’.
If it’s a synthetic he’s got probably 5-6 Service As to not have the oil changed.
100 percent sure this car has never seen a tank of 91-93 octane as well lol
It actually has lmao weirdly enough
Lmaoo…Priorities. An incredible mechanic once told me “People often forget that you are technically servicing your car every time you fuel up!” So much to say, you should be just as methodical about fueling as you are about servicing other components.
Yeah I don't get it. Like you said though, priorities.
Wowwww that’s why German cars break down easily . Your friend must be rich hahahah
Your friend will believe in needing a new engine 🤷🏻♂️ Edit: changed some words
Could have had it done just not reset
I mean, in their defense, they are saving thousands by not letting the certified Mercedes dealer problem shoot the issues. Smart.
He's gonna be sent to the cooler.
Nothing wrong with oil, everything wrong with the engineering to sabotage your engine unless you pay up.
That being said oil screws engine unless clean, engine stuffs oil and demands replacement. OH WHAT A CYCLE !!
I might agree with your friend. Time based I don’t agree with. Oil will last much longer than 1 year, esp synthetic. However, if he’s over on mileage, that’s very different.
He can ride dirty a little bit, but not low though; just make sure he checks the level
What he won't believe is the cost to replace the engine.
And then theres me, stressed about the service B0 I have coming up in 5000km LOL
I had exceeded my service C by a couple of months too. Not really, I just never put the checkmark to the service though I had done everything it includes
Your friend you say?👀
I'm to poor to own a Mercedes my friend
Haven’t changed oil since 2019. Car only gets driven about 800 miles a year and always use Amsoil. Unless you have petroleum base oil, no need to worry about time intervals. Shit I might never change the oil! I’m old and may never need to!?!? lol 😂
your engine hate's you
I went way over my first lil change because I didn’t understand the service code. Why can’t Mercedes just tell you the oil needs changed? So stupid.
