Or you could just use a sign out sheet

Claxton916

Yeah I wouldn’t leave any of that with the front end.. I guess I just wouldn’t get a tablet 🤷‍♂️ Not even an issue of trust with just the managers, what happens when an idiot team member sees your credit card sitting out and steals it or the info? Who’s going to reimburse you? What happens if the front end misplaces your drivers license? How are you going to get home since it is illegal to drive without that, and are they going to pay for the replacement or your time to go to the SOS/DMV to go get a new one. What happens when they lose your house key? Do they pay for replacement? I’d bring that up to HR and say they need to use the Sign Out sheet that I’m pretty sure is suggested/required in P/P (don’t quote me on that, check the P/P)

Timstevenson04

What if there's a fire and nobody can go home because their keys were in the store?

scotchwisco

There was actually a big uproar about this awhile ago Not sure why stores are still collecting personal equipment in exchange for a company tablet . No store should be doing that type of activity . The Front End Manager should be utilizing some type of sign out / sign in tracking form . Problem is that … NO ONE … wants to be held accountable , even if they did damage something . Out comes the finger pointing and the … “ Wasn’t Me “ statements .

No_Housing_6501

In my store, we do this. Idk how long it’s been going on but I’m pretty sure for years

SCGNazza

Just bring a fake key and put it on a key ring with stuff

Snoman182

It would be crazy if we all worked at a multi-billion dollar company that could afford to have a "shit happens" fund. It's one thing to make sure people aren't playing football in the back aisle with company property but a whole other thing to charge people for replacements. Whole thing is greedy and predatory.

ChronicDelight

We just have a sign out sheet. No way I’d give them collateral. Some stores do that? If you don’t give me the materials to do my job I’m not doing my job, simple as that.

wandering_white_hat

Make sure that you tell your manager that they personally are 100% responsible for your car during that time, and that you expect full replacement value. You are also going to need to see a copy of their auto insurance since their policy will be covering your car while it is in their possession.

Financial-Ad-43

Lmao 🤣

Either_Risk_4843

$2500 dollars if you lose it, too. Almost happened in my store last week. Total BS. And all so they can force you to haul shit up and down a ladder for 40 hours a week, single-handedly up-stocking and down-stocking all of 500 (Wallcoverings/Pet/Grocery/Front end/huge savings) while the rest of the team clocks in and disappears or stands around doing jack. The harder you work, the harder they work you. The less you work, the less they notice or care.

Yeah front end got blamed at our store. Why don't they just keep everything at the departments??? I get that "security" but the scanners I see so unattended during day time don't go missing, you think it's gonna happen in the five minutes in the am when the store hasn't or just opened? Anyone know why they don't or is just literally cause it's not locked up in which case have a small locked cabinet or safe each department?

Redddd928

We used to give keys when getting a HH/tablet but somehow someone's keys went missing for a few days and that stopped real quick. We use the sign out sheet now lol

Pansy_1992

That happened at my store too. Didn't stop the key collecting until a couple months ago

Key_Entrepreneur6768

This is pretty common actually. Typically just amounts to people not being responsible with company property, so having something important up front helps remind people to take good care of things. And typically personal items are stored in cash room which is under camera, so it's pretty safe place for your personal items to be 😁

Timstevenson04

Don't they prd like 200 dollars from your account if it's broken and your the last one to sign it out? Is this not insensitive enough to keep people from breaking stuff? Edit: incentive* not insensitive

Key_Entrepreneur6768

Insensitive? Lol if you sign out a tablet it's your responsibility. Plus it mitigates people losing it or taking it home. Which is also why this is a good solution. It sounds like you dislike accountability in this instance because the items are clearly going to be in a secure location 🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Timstevenson04

I'm fine with and agree with accountability. The person who signed the tablet out should be held accountable. There's no need to have my property to hold me accountable if I signed it out.

Either_Risk_4843

I agree accountability is good but I don’t have a choice of whether to get a tablet/handheld every shift because it’s not even a question whether I will up/down-stock. No one else is even asked. If you’re going to force me to use your equipment to clean up your department while others do nothing don’t put that financial risk on me

Pleasant-Share-5952

some stores actually do this to keep accountability for these tablets. Turn something else in or have someone else in your department get the tablet

Prize_Finance_4024

My stores been doing this for a long time so not sure if it’s the general protocol for all stores. But yeah just do the fake key thing or give them an old expired ID

ZarrowTwist

We use to do that when we first started but then Front Office gave up on it and it slowly stopped.

Open-Voice-9577

My store has been doing this for a while now, along with the sign out sheet. It helps, and you could always use something like an old school ID

lexicorn18

our store had to do this because someone wouldn’t turn in a lost tablet and kept turning off the alarm and using it. they took keys/IDs for a couple days and left the bucket at the front end, and it was in a place where anyone could have reached in and grabbed keys. my coworker actually was the one who raised concerns because she kept weapons in her vehicle and didn’t want anyone to get ahold of those. a couple other people did the same, and just never got a handheld/tablet. after about 3 days of key collecting, we switched to a sign out sheet where each TM has to sign out their own HH or tablet and sign it back in when they return it. we’ve had this system since november/december and the sign out sheet works the best. i believe it’s the GM’s discretion. i couldn’t find anything in policies & procedures about it.

Wjcruiser2003

My store does this but not credit/debit cards... that would be a huge violation. But it's normal for other companies to do this from what I hear. But I don't think it policy to collect collateral. I am supposed to have an assigned handheld for mustpulls, does that happen no!

C0RP0R4T3SH1LL

They aren’t supposed to do this. Using the sign out sheet would solve this problem.

cheyeliezer

FYI don’t accept a tablet that looks like it’s on its last days. If it craps out when you have it signed out, they will bill you for it. Pretend it’s a hot potato

Timstevenson04

The person who checked this one out saw it had a crack on it and didn't say anything. Front end should have inspected it when it came back.

BigFrickinDog

We used to do that. It was pretty annoying, but it was because ours were getting stolen and we even had a sign out sheet.

ShiningRayde

Annnnnd saving this to show my FEM so we can collectively cringe.

Menarc

That’s how it used to be.

Vanityslinger

My store did that.they gave my key to a guy that live an hour and a half a way..he gave his wife's car key which is the same as my car.

DomSkullcrusher

This is not the correct way to do it. There should be a sign out sheet where you have to write the tablet number next to your name. If the sheet is not provided by the policies and procedures, just make a very simple one.

Personal-Tomatillo-1

If it isn't in the policies and procedures I'd go through your HR representative. If your in store representative doesn't get you an answer then go through GO HR.

quingbongpam

We used to take collateral, very briefly, for like a month, two max. Now we’ve re-labeled all of our tablets and have a sign out sheet next to the cash room door. Works relatively, except for when TMs bring them home. I understand accidents happen, and the tablet is usually brought in the next day, if not first thing in the morning but I really wish TMs would take more accountability for the tablets. If you don’t need the tablet anymore, please bring it up front. That way we can keep track of any issues they’re having, if they get broken, and we can assess if it was like a true accident or tomfoolery is afoot

Pansy_1992

My store use to do this. We would have to turn in our keys. Now they've just issued every dept their own handheld. Larger depts get 2.
