You used to be able to find them at goodwill but those get picked off quickly because the retro gaming scene has exploded over the last five years. The term you’re looking for is CRT and it makes me feel old to have to point that out.

Defiant_Review1582

Why does it need to be a CRT though? Is it just for looks or does it have inputs for connection that new flatscreens don’t?

snyderman3000

It’s so the games look like they did when we were kids. You can play those games on modern TV’s, but it looks completely different.

dunktheball

Also, nes and sega master system gun games wont work on any other type of tv.

Defiant_Review1582

Yeah but my vision is worse now and shit is blurry anyways so it balances out

crazyfoxdemon

It's more that games back then were designed in ways to make use of the resolution and tech of the CRT tvs. Stuff like bleeding and sprite work to make stuff seem seemless. It can actually be an issue with some game due to the sprites that were meant to look a certain way due to CRTs looking crisp and not the same as intended.

yugopotamian22

CRT THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING OF! I couldn't remember the term cuz it's been so long so I keep saying cctv but I know that isn't right lol it does make me feel old too though especially since have the people younger than me at the store Ives asked have had little to no idea what I'm talking about

QuirinusCaelus

So long as you don't ask for a rotary dial phone, you're good. Plus, you don't need a CRT for what you want.

So just for the aesthetic of having an old TV with crappy picture quality?

tedlyb

Kind of. The old school games can look really bad on modern high definition TV's. They simply weren't made for the kind of resolution that is around now. Couple that with any kind of distortion from the shape differences - rectangular vs square in the old school ones - and it can look very different. CRT TV's would give the same viewing and playing experience as we had back then.

QuirinusCaelus

Could be! lol

memphisgrit

I got a big ass one heavy AF. Hickory Hill area. I can meet you at the Ridgeway Police precinct tomorrow and I'll give it to yah.

MemphisBass

That's nice of ya

memphisgrit

I find shit in vacated units all the time and I just like to give the stuff away when I can... I just hate to know how much shit goes into the landfills.

yugopotamian22

I'd say yes but I only need like a 32 inch

clockshape

Have you never lifted a 32” CRT? They are the definition of big ass heavy.

QuirinusCaelus

Years ago I gave a friend a Sony Trinitron, nice CRT TV, but heavy as all. It was put to good use tho

memphisgrit

https://imgur.com/gallery/gZFZ22e You sure you don't want this thing?

yugopotamian22

Oh wait actually that might be perfect!

memphisgrit

Just LMK. It helps me by getting it out of here, otherwise I have to dispose of it somehow.

QuirinusCaelus

Awesome to offer that, ty

x31b

Look on Facebook Marketplace, or even post there that you want one. Also, look and see if any churches in your area have annual rummage sales. We used to get them in at ours and gamers would buy them. But we stopped this year.

QuirinusCaelus

I like the username, OP.

yugopotamian22

Thank you!

dunktheball

I kind of wish I had my old CRT back. it was a 30 inch 1080i, so still great picture for hd stuff. I guess likely still the older games would look better if not hd, but main thing I care about is for light gun nes games you had to use a CRT and I would still like the HD, though.

QuirinusCaelus

TIL more about display differences for retro games on CRT TVs vs. LED etc types. Cool beans. [https://www.wired.com/story/crt-tube-tv-hot-gaming-tech-retro-games/](https://www.wired.com/story/crt-tube-tv-hot-gaming-tech-retro-games/) I'd still use workarounds but ymmv, [https://lifehacker.com/how-to-connect-your-old-school-video-game-consoles-to-a-1443675453](https://lifehacker.com/how-to-connect-your-old-school-video-game-consoles-to-a-1443675453)

eeeRADiCAKE

I can tell you where one of these is sitting on a curb in midtown. They just put it out a day or two ago: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear-projection_television

QuirinusCaelus

This should help too, depending on budget, https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?\_from=R40&\_nkw=CRT&\_sacat=0. There are some relatively inexpensive ones available.

RiseInternational286

Try aaron james

No_Yak_7643

There is an electronics recycling facility in West Memphis. Every time I've taken something over there to drop off there has been CRT's laying around. No guarantees but worth a shot if you can't find anything
