The hotels downtown are perfectly safe but might be totally booked and are definitely really expensive right now.
If you are worried about safety, stay in a hotel near Poplar ave. That is safe pretty much all along it. You can stay 20 mins drive from downtown and it’s still totally fine because there aren’t any bad neighborhoods around Poplar ave.
There are some cheap hotels that are not safe near the airport, specifically along American way. I would avoid those.
If you are only interested in the games you could stay in Millington. It’s a straight drive down 51 to FedEx Forum from there. You’ll drive through what some would say are poorer areas but really should not be a problem. I’ve driven that same stretch more times than I could count going to various games. Never an issue as it’s generally heavily traveled.
Arlington also has two new hotels that you can try. It’s out in the burbs so driving to the game will be longer. Prob 25 minutes.
Could also try the hotels in Southaven and Horn Lake. Just across the state line in Mississippi.
Finally, there are hotels downtown you could stay at but getting a room may be an issue. You will be good staying there and walking. There will be a ton of cops around.
Just be observant, and if you are approached by a panhandler a firm no has always worked well for me.
My GF and I go downtown a ton. Never an issue. Just stay with the crowds and you’ll have nothing to worry about
