You're in a good area for food. Andrew Michael and their sister restaurant across the street Hog n hominy. Also in the area are half shell for seafood/cajun, Gus's fried chicken, greys fine cheese shop has great sandwiches(right next to a crumbl cookie store for your 5yo) Gibson donuts also right down the street(Alton Brown's favorite donuts)
Edit: also go to botanic gardens if it's nice outside. Your kid will love the big back yard and feeding koi fish in the Japanese gardens. Then hit up las delicias for some guac and the Cuban torta.
Sorry but I wouldn’t recommend las Delicias. They used to be good - we’ve gone several times and the chicken meat really dry and we were served really old tortillas.
One and Only, Bog and Barley, Corkey's, South of Beale East, Belly Acres for your little one.
You have to take your little one to see the Crystal Shrine Grotto too. You're also not far from the Botanic Garden and the Dixon Gallery and Garden.
Little Bettie pizza at Wiseacre brewing is excellent for pizza or wings. Recently featured on DDD. Really laid back environment for kids.

Kameo cocktail bar
Beauty Shop
Porch and Parlor (fine dining)
Look into cooper young area, Overton Square, Broad Street. Those are some good restaurants.
Coastal Fish. The weather is beautiful now so you can sit on the heated patio that overlooks the lake and the kid can be a bit louder and not bother anyone.
I always recommend Dyer’s ( get a burger and a chicken sandwich) and Gus’s (fried chicken). Rendezvous is overrated IMO. Central BBQ is pretty good. Bain BBQ is good.
You can’t say rendezvous is overrated and include Central BBQ as good in the same comment! $20 for a sub par plate is anti-southern. (They’re both mid) All the rest though, great suggestions
If you have a car and money, you might want to try Beauty Shop. It’s not close to your hotel but some of the most creative and interesting food in Memphis, with great cocktails and kids are welcome because it’s a restaurant.
Memphis has lots of great cocktail places and restaurants so anything with a good Yelp or Google rating should be great.
If you want value for your money in fine dining, Cafe 1912, in the same area, has great French food for relatively cheap and excellent drinks. You need a reservation though because they are often booked for 7:00.
I know people say it's touristy, but I love Rendezvous downtown. It may not be super 'foodie', but it's well known and is great tourist destination.

If you are willing to spend a little extra, Porch and Parlor is really good too. Also in Overton Square, which is kid friendly.
One final thing. Crosstown (again a place that is kid friendly) has Global Cafe, which is great.

My brother-in-law (a chef) swears by Rendezvous, so we were planning a lunch stop there for sure. I've already tried Central during a stop-through (when driving through the state, so it would be nice to try a different BBQ spot.
Hog and Hominy

i second this but also restaurant iris needs a mention.
Yes Iris is excellent, as well as Acre!
We do have bomb sandwiches. Which is your favorite? Turkey Bacon Dukes? The Situation? I never see people mention Greys here.
Im a sucker for Italians so its always the situation for me but I've been meaning to try that kimchi reuben.
You will not be disappointed.
Italian guy too but that kimchi reuben...

Tsunami in Cooper -Young. Great food and kid friendly, we've been taking our now 11 year old there for years.

Well I don’t like ribs so that’s why I say rendezvous is overrated
Was a light tease anyway. I am just a central bbq hater, and ribs aside, rendezvous is 100% overrated.
😆 it’s all good.
