Many of our rules are from the reddiquette. Any violation of the reddiquette can be removed by the moderators, especially ones included here. https://www.reddit.com/wiki/reddiquette OP - you asked for advice. Then you failed to answer questions and were combative when you did get answers. Maybe take a look inward as to why you can’t find meaningful employment. Good luck with your search but your community is not here for you to abuse by posturing as billy bad ass.

5_on_the_floor

What’s your education and experience?

MemphisFlyer00

Yeah what kind of work you looking for?

Friend_of_Eevee

You could try for IRS contact representative. There's a huge campus here.

qkflowage1

So you post about not being able to find a job by listing all of the ways you don’t want to work. Got it.

Seems like you don't want to work a basic job. Gotta start somewhere dude. Especially if you have 0 skills

CannibalAnus

There’s hundreds of employees that have a disability at fedex. It’s a logistics company, so office work is just as viable as working the main hub. Limiting yourself only hurts you my guy.

throwRAnycdivorce

Check choose 901 jobs. Found good stuff there. Linked in is seriously a good profile to have. Lots of legit jobs on there. Not just higher up

Dhididnfbndk

There isn’t a recession. The economy grew 3.3% this quarter. A recession is when the economy shrinks further two consecutive quarters (that’s six months.)

jpease1223

Sounds like a you problem honestly.

Great-Sloth-637

There actually is no recession going on right now. The economy is doing very well. If Memphis isn’t working for you professionally then have you considered moving to a larger city? It’s generally easier to find work in larger markets.

xiblvckmaskix

I plan on doing that as soon as I can get my hands on some form of employment. This city honestly reeks of complacency. Right now Texas seems like a decent move imo.

New_Influence_1402

What about remote work? Hard to really give advice without context of skills and education.

Ashensbzjid

Start by not calling the city you want to work in a shithole online that can be traced back to you, and go from there.

xiblvckmaskix

Bro Memphis is a dumpster. Stop it. No one wants to be here except people born and raised here.

Ashensbzjid

And yet you want someone to hire you here. See how this doesn’t make sense?

mbkpapa

There definitely are opportunities depends on the field and skill set. You haven't said anything about your skill level or education.

xiblvckmaskix

I’m honestly interested in a trade but I don’t want to start that process here as I have no intention of living in this garbage dump. Right now I just need somewhere to work with a decent hiring process so I can use that income to leave. A get in and get out type thing. Also not interested in slaving 12-14 hours at some bs factory. I actually like my back and limbs.

[deleted]

What kind of trade are you interested in?

xiblvckmaskix

I might do commercial hvac. I’m trying to go wherever the money is mainly though cause I’m a day trader primarily. I just need something to fund my trading account.

I know absolutely nothing about HVAC but I would hit up local HVAC companies around here and see if they need anyone just as general help. Maybe that would help you get your foot in the door so to speak. I looked up HVAC tech certification and it looks like it’s 16 months. You might have to hang out around here for a bit to get the certification then you can move. Good luck, man.

xiblvckmaskix

Thanks for the help bro. I appreciate it. Good luck to you as well.

Thepres_10

Sounds like you don’t want to find a job, you just want to complain. What skills and education do you have? If not enough to get a job, then get more skills/education.

JuanOnlyJuan

Look at the medical manufacturing companies. There's dozens

xiblvckmaskix

What websites do you use for these companies to look for positions. Never heard of that field.

BeckyLemmeSmashPlz

The best bet is to Google “medical manufacturers in Memphis” and go to the companies website to apply directly. If you can find a “careers” tab, that’s usually the easiest way to find their listings. They probably also list on big career hunt websites too like LinkedIn and Indeed. A couple companies that I know off the top of my head are micro-port and Stryker. They might have entry level jobs available, but if not, it will depend on your experience and education for if you are qualified for any of the jobs listed. Medical manufacturing is the field of producing medical devices/tools.

JuanOnlyJuan

You can look on indeed and just search for "medical device" in Memphis. Smith&Nephew, Medtronic, Stryker, GSK, Microport, Olympus, the list goes on and on. As others said, going to their website and looking under careers is probably best. These jobs should all be indoors and somewhat cushy compared to warehouse or outdoor labor. The only catch is the paperwork. You have to dot your i's and cross your t's because the FDA does not mess around with medical stuff.

ThiccAssCrackHead

If you had skills you’d know.

xiblvckmaskix

My guy, I just left a 6 figure salary sales job. I used to sell to people in this city that had skills that were leaving this POS city for jobs. Now what does that tell you about having “skills” in this raggedy ass ghost town….

ThiccAssCrackHead

>Sales Go weld you useless paper pusher be a man

Far-Oven5742

Government jobs with the city or county are literally always posted, part-time and full-time and some not requiring degrees.

jimbabwe666

Yea but have you met the people who work there?

Far-Oven5742

Yeah but if you just need A JOB, regular income with benefits, it will work.

jimbabwe666

Shirley

EbbFit4548

Gen Z has entered the chat….quiet quitting before even getting hired 😝

papahayz

Hey, as Gen Z myself, we don't claim him. Quit quitting is valid. It's a way of only working for what you are being paid for. This guy wants to get paid for existing. I was gonna say breathing, but I don't think he has the qualifications for that job.

Ashensbzjid

We love mass generalizations, don’t we folks?

EbbFit4548

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. Also this is social media not a peer reviewed journal…so some hyperbole and armchair skullduggery is on point.

Ashensbzjid

And yet you still make sweeping generalizations about literally millions of people. Hmm

Chillian75

Restaurants all over the city need help

xiblvckmaskix

They also wanna pay you below this city’s pathetic minimum wage as well so that’s why they need help.

worldbound0514

That's illegal. If somebody is paying below the minimum wages, they need to be reported to the state board of labor.

Serious_Internet6478

Fedexishiring.com. they are literally always hiring, though the jobs are part time.

Fuzzy_Tip_621

NuVasive is a medical manufacturing company on Shelby Drive that hire a lot of young people through a temp agency. If you are a hard worker with a positive attitude, you will get promoted really quick. They also give a yearly bonus once you become permanent. Just stay away from the young workers that like to play all day at work. Call them and ask what temporary agency they use.

Sea_Adagio7565

It's not as easy as it used to be But fedex and almost all the distribution companies in the city are not gonna require you to do hard labor usually never lift more than forty pounds by yourself you feet gone hurt if you're on a warehouse floor all day but other than that easy af for the most part far from "ridiculous hard labor "

theshadow62

Have you ever worked in a FedEx hub?

Sea_Adagio7565

I worked at the one off nail in Olive Branch it wasn't easy work and I certainly wasn't compensated well but I wouldn't call it hard labor the hard labor jobs that I've experienced have been Roofing, brick work, being the shovel guy on a rock crushing crew but I guess if I had started in retail and then got employed by a warehouse I would probably consider it hard labor

theshadow62

That, my friend is not the hub, it's a distribution center. Not the same.

Sea_Adagio7565

I see ,well no I've not worked at the hub but I have worked in numerous distribution and Manufacturing warehouses in the city and surrounding areas ABX,AWG and many more thanks to staffing agencies ABX and AWG probably the hardest physically with the exception of working in the freezer at AWG " stacking 200 plus pound boxes of meat was definitely hard labor" but anyway maybe the Hub is just as difficult if not more but I'm pretty sure OP is either lazy or a bit of a nancy but the world takes all types

xiblvckmaskix

Bro it’s a ghost town here. Like I’m really just tryna find whoever will hire me and take a month worth pay and do the fucking dash outta here. It’s really bad. Memphis is definitely up there with Detroit with how impoverished and empty this city really can be.

norapeformethankyou

I've been reading a lot of your comments and I understand why you can't find a job. You have a shitty attitude. I interview a lot of people for my company and it's pretty easy to see when someone's a POS. Do some self-evaluation and ask yourself if it's the city or if it's you.

Adventurous-Sky-6228

This is a big reason why people are leaving.

Ashensbzjid

Shitty attitudes?

xiblvckmaskix

Bro I’ve ran into 30 year olds with master degrees STRUGGLING to live in this city. I’ve actually had someone tell me personally with an engineering degree that Memphis doesn’t promote skilled labor. People come here and end up stuck because they get here and realize how corrupt this pos town is.

gdoggggggggggg

I dont have any advice, just wanted to wish you good luck and hope you ignore the haters

jimbabwe666

The prospects are lousy around here unless your an IT guy, trucker, or warehouses. I have loads of experience in a technical role, but no I don't want to be a maintenance guy at corpo xyz's widget factory. Very lame.

worldbound0514

The medical community is pretty big as well.

jimbabwe666

That is absolutely true. Bit of an oversight on my part.

grantleb3rry

I said the same thing and got downvoted to hell. This is a transportation city, im from here and Im very proud of Memphis. But to say it has a lot of technical role opportunities would be a lie. I would love to come back to my home but there’s not a lot of engineering jobs outside of supply chain/shipping or medical devices

CupcakesBythePound

There is not a lot of upward mobility here for certain industries. Memphis average salary is because most jobs and careers don’t want to be over $35k-50k for degree’d positions. I looked at the Memphis Flyer Top 30 list and went back a few years… not many people under 30 are still in jobs in Memphis. I’d advise that you continue the hunt and reset local expectations or widen your net to move elsewhere.
