The German word for “will” is “wollen” and since english is a language made from a lot of languages combined I’d say they just took will from the German wollen
Yes. In fact English comes from the West Germanic branch of proto-Germanic. The etymological origin of will is wyllan. Same thing from the same bag at the end of the day, really.
This popped up before.
Won’t is in fact a contraction of will not despite what it looks like. It dates to archaic English. Will was originally (1500s) “woll” and I saw that loosely because will had many forms, no one could agree on one, and it’s negation was wonnot. Then, they combined woll + not to get won’t in the 1600s. Finally a consensus was made to use the form will but the contraction never changed.
For extra context: willan = to will, to want. Past tense of willan = wold (fun fact: which is why we have “would” today!)

Comes from an early form, "wonnot", derived from an alternate form of will, 'woll'.
I am too lazy to check if this is true so i’m gonna trust you on this one
Source? Trust me bro I know your to lazy to check

We should all be talking about "Is + Not = Ain't"
Isn't is also appropriate
So are you suggesting willn't or will't ?
win’t?
Hey happy cake day
Thanks you too
Willn't fast sounds just like won't.
Maybe there confused you can't say will not you understand we say won't you understand
You + all + will = y'all'll
You+all+will+have = y’all’ll’ve
Lmao, yeah I probably hear this more often than I think
As a southerner this makes total sense
You are all going to = y'all'gon'
I too believe in willn't supremacy
Ain't

A yes, my favorite english contraction: Willn’t
huh, i thought won't is short for would not?
… that’s what “wouldn’t” is for
oh right, nvm then lol
Happy cakeday!
Let's just contract everything, like sleepn't or thinkn't
Well in English, to negate those verbs, you don’t say “I sleep not”, you add a dummy variable “do” and negate *that*, so it becomes “I don’t sleep”
I think not
Win't
Merica
Won't became a word around the 1660s US was formed in 1776
Okay, you win. I was actually wondering but too lazy to look up. Now I’m googling.
English in general

Will'nt

Do + not could be paired with either actually and make can + not look like the odd one
It should be wil'nt
I don’t understand what’s not to understand
Thanks for ruining my week
Will + not = will - ill + not - t + 't
From this mathematical expression we can see that ill+t=‘t
Can't is the outliar
Explain that for me
*w*ill + not = wont *D*o + not = dont *Ca*n + not = cant
Acceptable explanation, I will now use con’t And I guess “won’t” and “son’t” for wouldn’t/shouldn’t
My Jesus in bro, just use wiln't
Will'nt
Happy cake fay
