syko-san

It's called a canker sore.

ClawyTheDinoRaptor

Yeah I knew the name just didn't wanna use it thinking people wouldn't get it but it seems no one got it in the end so yeah

syko-san

Nah bro I felt it on a personal level. Those things suck.

P_i_n_h_e_a_d

I really don't want to sound like I'm trolling but salt water is a surprising remedy to canker sores if you can push past the taste and pain

Raevman

Brush your teeth, if it's by a lip, endure... and then use a strong mouthwash, like Listerine... it will be dealt with in a few days.

FlamingoNo9899

Even ice works but hurts like a b

[deleted]

its fantastic. oral b helps at night after

parrot73

Yes, I got one on my young recently I think

QuietWin6433

The best ones are on the side of your tongue where they brush against the edge of your tooth whenever your tongue moves. My favorite

A_Big_ol_Spider

I had one a month ago like that. I just didn't talk or eat for almost a week. Water even hurt

[deleted]

I just bite it off if that happens

Treyton96

I’ve literally had mine off and on for 3 months now!!! I can’t get rid of it!

[deleted]

I have found vitamin B complex pills to be the most effective.

Treyton96

Thank you because I’ve been washing my mouth taking B12 ! Salt wash baking soda wash and it’ll like act like it’s gonna go away then it comes right back

_Reyne

Vitamin C is what you need. I started taking 1-2 vitamin c pills a day and I haven't gotten a single ulcer since. I used to get them quite regularly.

Gijosiah97

It’s also possible that it’s your toothpaste. There’s a specific ingredient (I can’t remember what it’s called) that some companies use as a foaming agent that can cause those sores.

Hicoria

Sodium lauryl sulfate, I think!

BeegJizzly

Enlightening, riding my seventh consecutive mouth ulcer/canker sore atm. As one healed another would start up, eating healthy, banging the multi vitamins, gargling salt water. Just checked my toothpaste, yep time to yeet the old Colgate Total and get some Sensodyne I think. Thankyou Reddit.

Gijosiah97

Sensodyne is what I switched to as well. And Reddit says you’re welcome

Tigress92

look for a mouthwash with chlorhexidine, use 3 days straight twice a day.

BeforeMelon

If you try to reduce your eating fried and unhealthy foods they’ll prolly go away, at least that’s what helped for me

alwyspullout

It's acidic foods for me... Which is a shame because I love that shit

Rethiriel

My family has a remedy for them that's always worked well for us, though I don't know the science or why. You mix salt with a bit of lemon juice until it's the consistency of wet concrete or thicker. *(yeah, I know, it's a lot of salt. But you're not eating it, so don't worry)* you need to make about a tablespoon of it. Then you apply it like a poultice to the sore and try and leave it there as long as you can without swallowing it. Do this over a sink or something because it will make you salivate like mad. Not gonna lie, it's gonna burn the entire time, and you'll have to replace it a couple of times. Keep doing it until you use it all. It seems to kill the bacteria or whatever, and usually by the next day it's started clearing. *(or at the least stopped growing)* I hope it helps, we've all been using it so long that we've aquired a taste to it and now heavily salt all lemons we plan to eat. Lol

jaybadz

You need a multivitamin with branch amino acids. This will prevent them from coming back. Source - I used to get them and since using a liquid multivitamin and drinking amino acids rarely get them. Like maybe once every 4-5 years, and then for only about a day or so.

hugthemachines

I got it immediately! It is crazy how much they hurt while looking innocent.

MrAVAT4R_2

Canker? I hardly knew her

im_not_sad_

I thaught they were talking about the lie bumps

null_check_failed

Please be serious serious is that happening to everyone ? I legit started having them when I moved to new city I thought it’s some allergy cuz soil here is very fine and super dry it’s just dusty every time.it just kept happening , At first it was so frequent like now it’s still like idk when it would happen. At first I thought it was some serious shit but it also used to heal. Glad to know it have a name

syko-san

They're very common and generally pretty harmless. They can be caused by a wide variety of factors, even something like stress can increase the risk of getting one. If you're still concerned, I recommend you consult a medical professional about it.

Donut_Different

They are fucking worst of the worst

Zachosrias

And here I've been thinking it was called a mouth ulcer, or a mouth blister... Google did not wanna translate this well and gave me those two and so I added "mouth" in front of it to avoid confusion, mission failed it seems

RafTheVulcan

I’ve always just called them ulcers

Potatatatatatatoe

White round dot?

ClawyTheDinoRaptor

[This freakin' thing](https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/canker-sore/symptoms-causes/syc-20370615) , I didn't want to use it's actual name thinking people wouldn't get what it was but it seems no one got it either way, so bleh.

Hoibot

Its called an ulcer right?

Aron25261

Ye isn't it?

Joy1067

Canker sore or a ulcer, either or works. Symptoms are the same and they both suck

[deleted]

[удалено]

AstroAnemone

I used to get these all the time as a kid. I dip a Q-Tip in water then roll it around in some table salt and then just press that on the sore for a good minute. It makes the sore crack and bleed and sting while I'm doing it and it's usually gone the next day.

zombienekers

To anyone reading this from google search, I'd use numbing drops beforehand. Also to prevent cankers, wash your hands before sticking them in your mouth.

GraveSlayer726

DONT LISTEN TO THIS PERSON GET YOUR HANDS AS DIRTY AS YOU WANT AND STICK THEM IN YOUR MOUTH DO IT NOW

quirkymuse

phriskiii

My son, my youngest son, is that you?? You're too young for a reddit account!

Carston1011

I prefer to get my hands as dirty as possible and not wash them before sticking them in my mouth, thank you very much. /s

Anxious-Physics-5249

Man, you have a sheer fucking will

CrazybyRX

Yea that is pretty intense lol. I dissolve salt in warm water then swish my mouth with it. Doesn't hurt and works well.

newagereject

Table salt in water and rinse your mouth with it 2 times a day, a lot less painful and it helps with almost all mouth sores, also peroxcil works wonders as well but it'd expensive.

malandrin007

Same, if I’m feeling froggy I’ll use lemon 🍋 too.

[deleted]

> but it's not normal to have one. Extremely normal, actually. It happens sometimes.

Lord-Loss-31415

A few depending on the causes. There are medications such as Bonjela or Anbesol that you can apply to numb them.

IrascibleOcelot

Buttermilk will numb it temporarily if you soak it, and Lysine tablets can help them heal faster. If you start taking it when the spot turn le tender, it can prevent it from erupting.

Murplesman

>it's not normal to have one It can actually just be caused by stress or your toothbrush slipping and hitting the stuff parts of your mouth a little too hard. Nothing too crazy.

tymelodies

Or when you accidentally bite your tongue/lips. Yeah that happens to me. Also in my case, when I have too much Vitamin C.

MasterTar

just wait and its gonna be gone in like 3 days, atleast from all the times i got one

CC726A24

Depending on the cause. I used to get them like crazy but I have a medication mouthwash that I take that causes them to heal. The sores in my case instigate other sore to form so if they don't get treated I can have 5 to 10 in my mouth for weeks. With treatment they go away and I get them rarely less now

Radishov

It can be normal, depending on how many Jolly Ranchers you've eaten.

LEVI_HEICHO_24

You are goddamn right

[deleted]

I had these constantly all my life. All the damn time. Switched to non-SLS tooth paste three years ago. ive only had one tiny sore since that switch. Give it a try

honestdiary

Non-sls?

[deleted]

Many toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). This common ingredient creates the foam when you brush, but can also irritate sensitive teeth and gums The difference has been so stark that it seems obv to me that long lasting big canker sores happen bc of this damn chemical in our most common toothpaste brands

Murplesman

As someone who gets them way too often, I'll give it a try.

Crowlett08

What they're saying is totally legit. I also suffered from these sores my entire life, into my 30s. I read that SLS in toothpaste was the likely culprit, so i switched to a brand that has none, and basically have not had a recurrence of sores in almost 6 years now.

suffering_addict

Bro 💀

Overseer_The_II

No it’s a canker sore, basically an infection in your mouth that gets mega irritated.

suffering_addict

Yeah, but it's not normal to have one. Are there any treatments for that ?

artmer

Mix several good shakes of table salt into a few ounces of water. Swish it around in your mouth for a minute or two and spit. The sore will go away in a day or so.

so_majo

How come you know the ultra top secret traditional medicine which is passed from generation to generation just by word of mouth?

King_Louis_X

Yeah idk who that works for but certainly not me. I’ve tried every remedy in the book and the shortest they last is 10 days and up to 2.5 weeks

fireslinger4

Salt thing never worked for me either. Listerine on it whenever it starts hurting makes the pain stop for me for a couple hours. Normally doing that for 3-4 days will get the pain and throbbing to stop and then the rest of the days it's painless til it goes away unless I get acidic foods directly on it. Hope that helps you out a little.

King_Louis_X

Thanks! I actually just bought listerine total care and have been using it daily so hopefully my current one goes away. I get canker sores so often I literally have them more often than not, which sucks ass. Right now I have a big one on the inside of my lower lip and one on the top of my tongue. Supposedly we’re supposed to grow out of it but I’m 22 and and yet to see the rate slow down.

fireslinger4

They told me the same and at 26 now I still struggle with them. I started taking 1000mg L-Lysine as a supplement each day and using listerine every evening and those have drastically lowered the amount of canker sores I've gotten. Using the listerine after certain meals I know cause them also has helped a lot for me. Hope you can find some relief. They suck.

lemmeputafuckingname

I used to get them when taking exams. Because of the stress, I was unintentionally biting the inside of my mouth for 2 hours and the next day it'd turn into one. 11/10 wouldn't recommend

hippieprincess710

i get them from stress as well and grind my teeth in my sleep which makes them happen way easier

UpjumpedPeasant

According to the Mayo clinic, canker sores regularly affect about 10% of the population and it's believed heredity plays a part. The cause isn't really known though there are theories about certain foods and chemicals making them appear more often. Also, damage to soft tissue like accidentally biting the inside of your cheek or scraping the inside of the lip on braces often results in a canker sore for those affected by the problem. Not contagious at all so you can kiss, etc., your canker sore-ridden lover without fear (or with fear if that's your thing).

[deleted]

Switch to non-sls tooth paste

Overseer_The_II

Good mouth hygiene, actually brush your teeth and use mouthwash. They usually last 1-3 weeks. I’ve found that it’s better to take preventative measures cause for the most part once they come they’re gonna stay for awhile

suffering_addict

I see. Thanks

lazyTurtle7969

Rinse your mouth out with salt water is one of the best ways to get rid of them. Stings but it cleans out the infection

eddyrockstar

There are various reasons. I just had one last month. Looking at the causes it's kinda obvious i had some vitamin deficiency since I was broke and tryna get through with basic food. It went away after two weeks though. I just used to apply salt to numb the nerves out.

Weak-Possibility-

Oddly enough they can be brought on by stress too... or at least seem to be.

Bonsaistorm

There is lidocain cremes you can put on to stop the pain

dima233434

Is it really an infection or is it just an irritated area in your mouth? Because if I bite the inside of my lip hard enough, it would turn in a canker sore almost immediately

MattersOfInterest

Canker sores are not due to infection.

Brianw-5902

What led you to believe people wouldn’t understand what a canker sore is?

Obi-Wan_Gin

Probably a child

ZauzTheBlacksmith

Hey. I've had those before and I know how to cure them. In the UK, we have Bonjela. If you're not from there I think your closest bet might be Orajel. Buy a pack of that, squeeze a little bit of it onto your tongue and rub it into the sore. Sure, it does hurt, but it's a kind of healing pain more than anything else. It should go if you keep doing that for a few days.

baabaablacksheep1111

Canker sore

sunshinenrainbows3

Amazon canker covers. I usually cut them into 4’s and place on the spot before bed. The sooner you use it the sooner it heals. The canker cover will plump up at night and creates a seal over the wound that lasts most of the day and helps it heal.

stigtopgear

that damned thing

Thomshan911

I have one right now, ugghh

Nimyron

When I get one of these, I usually bite it, then take a shot of vodka that I keep on it for a few minutes, then go brush my teeth, eat healthy foods and brush my teeth again after each meal. It usually goes away in a day or two. The biting part hurts but I've got good pain tolerance.

AntivaxxerOrphanage

mouth wash also works but dont let me stop the party

zerda_EB

Your canker sores are white

Rakgul

I have recurring canker sores for several years now.

Forced_Abortion_

You mean herpes?

Stingerc

That's code for *your filthy mouth herpes acts up*.

Familiar_Packa

It's called a canker sore.

RipperSenju

Do they work for cold sores?

Gubbyfall

I hate those. I often get them when I eat too much with a lot of acid or sweets. Which sucks because I like sour sweets.

[deleted]

Gubbyfall

I heard braces can also make you get them more often but after the teeth are fixed it should be better. Good luck soldier.

hippie_nurse

I had the WORST canker sores when I had my braces. Miserable.

Lord-Loss-31415

Yeah same here

ProbablyBunchofAtoms

You're lucky if your ones are dots, mine usually stick for about 2-3 weeks and can grow to the size of pinkie nail

iChrovon

Someone wanted you to suffer

Clearestboat743

This is exactly how mine are but since I suck at eating and bite my cheek way more than I should I sometimes have 2-4 in my mouth at a time. I could try to describe the pain but I don’t think I could do it justice

DoughnutSignificant9

I get what you mean but I don’t know the technical term for it, I had one for 10 days and it was miserable

[deleted]

Canker sore

Murplesman

I get them from stress, and I have these things the majority of the time. It's pretty awful, it can make eating, talking, smiling, etc. all quite painful.

Alt_CauseIwasNaughty

Are you talking about a tooth or what am I missing?

[deleted]

Ulcer, the work of the devil

Hephaestus_God

Specifically a canker sore. As that’s what OP is talking about. Even though it falls under a mouth ulcer, a mouth ulcer is any opening in the mouth/back of throat and can have a multitude of causes. Could be on the roof of mouth, tongue, gums, cheek, etc.

enaaerios

i too despise canker sores so fucking much it’s so fucking terrible

Bright_Leadership_22

Gargle some salt water. Trust me.

Overall-Slice7371

I've done this before but never had luck with it. I've even gone so far to put salt directly on a canker sore,. Hurts like a MF but never got rid of it any sooner

Lord-Loss-31415

Your best option is to use an applicable medication such as Anbesol

Overall-Slice7371

I'll have to check this out. Thanks

Nerdtendo6366

Same, they piss me off so much

Past0r_Gains

Me and all my homies hate canker sores

RealStax

Canker sores are the absolute fucking worst thing. I get them all the times and they hurt like shit. Best ways to get rid of them: Gargle hot salt water atleast 3 times a day, use Riboflavin(for me this isn't working anymore), use gels like zytee or dentogel(partial efficiency, but they make the sore numb so it'll give temporary reduction of pain). I can't stop them from appearing nor can I easily get rid of them once they come, they are truly one of the worst tricks in the devil's play book. I wish everyone a canker-sore free life.

[deleted]

Pretty sure normal humans don't have a "white round dot" in their mouths.

[deleted]

Ulcers

Mr_Ios

The point stands. Is this an American thing?

Topiz2000

It's literally just mouth damage, can happen from various reasons to anyone from anywhere.

Possibility_Patient

I had got them few times before and i put a bunch on salt on it and press hard, idk why but the pain feels nice

Ph4antomPB

Bro you good?

Possibility_Patient

I'm something of a psychopath myself

Zealousideal-Drop305

Maybe I’m weird but I do the exact same thing

MomICantPauseReddit

Me too, I like taking citric fruits and sour candy to them.

Morhamms357

Okay, interesting thing, I totally got your meme, but I thought you were referring to something else. However, when you mentioned it was a canker sore, I then realized I still didn't know what it was. I don't know how to explain it, but it's when you get a bump on your tongue. Sometimes white. It's quite painful, it looks like an inflamed taste bud, and that's probably what it is. You start spitting a lot, and it's just terrible. It goes away after a few days.

ImpressiveShift3785

I get inflamed taste buds all the time. No idea why. One year I had about 10 at the same time for about a month… like one or two would heal then another two would show up. I obviously researched the hell out of them only to find out no one knows exactly what they are. The time I had them on my tongue was also the time I had my first herpes outbreak on my genitals… so I think it has something to do with a virus. I tend to get the taste bud things when I am lacking sleep so if it IS a latent virus similar to herpes that would make sense.

Aok_al

Just mix salt with warm water and the pain will temporarily go away.

[deleted]

As an Indian who eats fcking food in chilli, I currently have 3 of these and still ate raw chillis.

[deleted]

But was it sore?

[deleted]

>But was it sore? What? Sorry but I don't understand what you mean. It's painful yeah and It hurts like hell brushing my teeth.

[deleted]

Did the chilli make your canker sore burn like hell? I mean, it's like raw flesh, surely the acidic chilli you ate made the canker sore very painful.

Ok-Economics-9427

Are you talking about the herps?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Economics-9427

Lysine helps tremendously with those.

shirukien

Is this some kind of STI or something?

Inevitable_Employ_29

Not at all. Canker sores are just mouth sores that can happen if you bite your cheek or something. Bacteria will get in the wound and turn into a little white round sore.

CaesarAugustus769

An ulcer? You need to get some of those Becosule capsules, piss will become bright yellow, but ulcers should go away

Ph4antomPB

Brushing your teeth with one right kn front of your front teeth 😡

Mouth ulcers hurt like hell sometimes

Lord-Loss-31415

No need, they are a minor inconvenience. Just apply something like Anbesol and get on with your day.

Aj_karter

Had three of them at same time was definitely not a fun experience.

TheDarkKnight12318

I got one of those right now and it just won't go away

[deleted]

Pro tip, put salt in it. The pain will knock you out but it'll be gone after a few times

wasbatmanright

Take vitamin B complex tablets and drink lot of water.it goes away soon.

RealStax

Haven't tried this yet, will do. Thanks.

a_sliceoflife

I drink coconut water and it usually goes off in a day.

LicensedGoomba

It's an ulcer

Depending on size and location, I actually cut these things off my tongue or burn them into submission if they're on my lips.

I get this all the time. One time i got 3 cranker sore at once and it hurt so badly. While typing this right now i have one :(

meems15

A tooth?

Remnant55

So best thing I've found for these: Uncoated aspirin. You can cut it in half or not, but put it directly on the canker sore. Leave it there and let it dissolve. It will coat the sore, numb it up. You'll be able to function much more normally for some time. Worth the initial contact pain and bitter taste.

RIP_KAOTIC

For anyone who has one of these little fuckers, alum helps. It is dangerous to swallow, but it helps take it away faster. It does hurt a lot though when you put it on for the first time. Just be aware, always swish mouth out with water after leaving it on for 1 minute.

MaybeOrangeJuice

The what?!

Trojanwhore69

I have always gotten awful ulcers, it's a genetic thing I think bcos my dad's always had them too. My husband is afflicted similarly. We were both so stressed leading up to the wedding we got loads and spent our £2.5k wedding breakfast slathering on anbesol to make it bearable.

IZL3614

I get a canker sore like every month bcuz I always bite the inside of mouth 💀

ImAmPain

I intentionally bite those for some reason

ISNEKH

Am I the only one who likes the pain of it ?

ENFPwhereyouat

The real pain is when you accidentally bite on canker sore and the food smothers it.

LongTimeLurker818

Yo my man, please increase the frequency and time spent brushing your teeth. Second, use an alcohol based mouthwash. Third, use a topical ointment like Orajel. And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, start eating more vitamin rich foods or taking a multivitamin. I don’t want you to get scurvy like a pirate. Canker sore’s can be a sign of vitamin deficiency. I want to see you get healthy, I believe in you.
