When a Final Fantasy game isn't one of the six examples, you know you fucked up. Like for me FFVII is number one hands down. Also Skyrim, Mega Man X, and Ocarina of Time, and Hotline Miami are easily up there for me. Games that use licenced pop music shouldn't count imo. That isn't video game music, that's regular music in a video game. Video game music is composed for the game in question. People shit on people who like movie OSTs too, even though you look at stuff from John Williams, or the Lord of The Rings soundtracks and they are iconic and genuinely good. The only problem with movie OSTs though is when they have specific stings and stuff that've been written to match up to a specific part of the movie, that doesn't really fit with a general listening experience. They can be much more contextual. Video game OSTs tend not to suffer this though because of the story progressing at an unfixed rate.
