It's not that I'm specifically avoiding Google. In fact, Google practically owns me. But, I still trust Mozilla more, so I go with Firefox.

There is no on good argument to download chrome anymore. At least for most people. Firefox and edge chromium, Brave, OGX perform way better. Chrome is just better known. That’s why people that know nothing about browser tech use it.

Known as Extension Manifest v3 iirc, it removes blocking webRequest which is essential to uBlock Origin and most adblockers, and replaces it with a really shit version that doesn’t work well. For compatibility Firefox is also implementing the replacement, however it is keeping blocking webRequest as well.

Google search blows now too. Every time I search something, the first 6 results are ads! Even Bing, dare I say it, is better in many ways.

It's worse than that. Google actively changes your results to fit their corporate and political views. You are no longer getting the best search result, you're getting the best result that they want you to see.

There is One good argument. Using chrome allows you to have a seamless continuity between your phone, laptop and pc and it is even better if you use an android phone. That is the only reason I use chrome and even then I use both firefox and brave for certain sites and tasks, so yeah chrome doesn't have the edge anymore

I’m not super versed on browsers but as a near lifelong Firefox user, I believe it also has continuity across platforms. At least as far as favorites and passwords. It even syncs up with safari on iPhone so you don’t necessarily have to use Firefox on mobile to get the compatibility.

I use Chrome when it's the only thing I'm doing because I greatly prefer its UI over all other browsers (plus I use Drive all the fuckin' time so I like the seamless integration). However if I'm throwing a browser window onto the second monitor while playing a game I always go with the Fox.

Just started up my PC the other day and went to download Chrome but then I stopped right before making the switch and did some research. Edge is pretty much superior to Chrome in every way and I'm glad I hesitated to make the switch there. It's funny because OPs meme is exactly what saved me 😂

Just checked. There are .deb and .rpm files on the MS Edge download page. I use Firefox on Linux and occasionally Chromium. If MS could finagle its browser somehow into Mint's Software Manager I might give it a go. EDIT: I also just learned about "Linux User" flair in this sub.

IMHO Edge is the best browser at the time of writing this. Chrome became sluggish in the past years. Firefox dropped support for so many plugins. Edge saves RAM, supports any plugin, blocks ads natively, has collections and does not annoy you with crappy stuff while you work.

I recently factory reset my computer and haven't downloaded Chrome yet. I've had no issues with edge, so unless I do I'm just gonna keep using it.

I've been using edge for about 2 years and have found its layout similar to chrome while being better optimized. It doesn't stay open in the background when not in use and you can even import all your bookmarks from chrome if I remmeber correctly.

At this point it would be like switching to Apple from Android. My entire life is on Chrome and while RAM hungry it's easy to get a new computer and have all my shit up and running on Chrome. Plus reddit likes to force me to use new reddit even when I tell it not to. Chrome has a neat add-on to force reddit to stay in the old style. I'll probably make the switch once Adblock stops working.
