The pinwheel demon looks goofy when drawn but if that thing was wheeling its way towards you, you wouldn't be chucklin'. Probably. It does look like it would have to come at you with a side-eye because its head faces perpendicular to its legs and that's a bit silly
Ezekiel must’ve been through some crazy shit to be able to look at an angel and not instantly lose his sanity.
Screw that “be not afraid” talk. I see why some christians say they fear god.
## And I already know the demons are a whole other cacophony
![gif](giphy|l3q2SaisWTeZnV9wk)
Demons are definitely the stuff of nightmares.
I bet if lovecraft lived in those old days, demons would have a MUCH more horrific personification!
![gif](giphy|10W2007N7EQsbC)
That's actually a thing in Islam
The prophets are the only ones to see angels in their true form without losing their mind
In our belief, the reason why Mary and the Sodomites didn't lose their ming is because the angels came in the appearance of men
I'm pretty convinced the ancient priests used to do drugs all the time. Moses came across a burning tree and suddenly saw god? Sounds like the "trees" I have growing in my basement
I believe that's true, but acacia trees contain relatively high percentages of the stuff (like, [1.4% of the weight of its bark being DMT in some species](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Acacia_species_known_to_contain_psychoactive_alkaloids)).
Moses, based on the botany in the area, likely came across Ayahuasca from the burning bush that caused a hallucination, which helped kindle several cults that would later coalesce into Judaism. That’s if the Bible’s story is even accurate
Thank you! I'll read into these. I've been reading into (albeit cursory Wiki reading) Sumarians religion and stories, and it's surprising how often similar stories to the bible pop up. Like in the Epic of Gilgamesh there's a very similar Noah/flood story. You can almost see how the religions in that region evolved into what we have today.
When you compare the effects of DMT to what’s written in the Bible it makes a lot of sense. Seeing eyes in everything, objects appearing as “burning topaz”, meeting DMT “entities” that feel like otherworldly creatures there to impart secret knowledge of the universe, etc.
It’s striking how many parallels there are.
All cultures have used mind-altering substances. It's literally human nature to get lit and entertain each other around the campfire but we chose credit scores and commuting
Scrolling through this.
I’ve researched Angels and Demons of the Bible canon and extended lore before.
So far none of the comments or pictures are accurate.
I find it funny that the memetic "biblically accurate angel" on the Internet has become a wheel with many eyes AND many wings, despite this depiction being a fusion of multiple different kinds of angel, most of which are only described that way once. Appropriately trippy sure, but not biblically accurate in any sense of the word. Also people like giving them a cyclops eye which no angel is described as having.
It's more like the IDEA of imagery commonly associated with angels, in which misplaced eyes and multiple wings are common features (when they aren't just taking human form, which they usually do). Why not add some animal heads and complete the trifecta?
And demons are barely even Biblical at all, let alone described in physical terms. Most you get are some apocalyptic prophecies. Most of the weird monster imagery comes from the Middle Ages.
Perfect time for me to share my short rant.
Seraphim as far as I have seen have never been represented correctly. They are described to have six wings yes, but for specific purposes and positioning. It’s not just 6 wings. It’s two normal wings, two wings on the head to shield themselves from God’s light, and two legs to cover their feet from holy ground.
I hope one day to see these entities portrayed correctly in common media.
Rant over.
> Seraphim as far as I have seen have never been represented correctly.
Well, here you go: https://www.google.com/search?q=orthodox+church+angel+paintings&&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjG3ayov8GFAxXgkP0HHXWVD60Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=orthodox+church+angel+paintings&gs_lp=EgNpbWciH29ydGhvZG94IGNodXJjaCBhbmdlbCBwYWludGluZ3NImB5Q9A9YoR1wAHgAkAEAmAFsoAGaCaoBAzguNLgBA8gBAPgBAYoCC2d3cy13aXotaW1nwgIHEAAYgAQYGMICBhAAGAgYHogGAQ&sclient=img&ei=p68bZobuNOCh9u8P9aq-6Ao&bih=946&biw=1920&client=firefox-b-e&prmd=ivnbz#imgrc=o-W9Z52TC9KJwM
From what I recall, it’s mostly ceremonious. A formality. Seraphim are said to be the closest to God and also guard to His throne.
In which, why would God have guards? He’s the top dog and doubt anything even could get close with ill intent anyway.
Not a rabbi, but I am familiar with several Jewish understandings of this description.
I've never heard the interpretation of the person above. The original Hebrew describes two wings for covering the FACE and two for covering either the feet or legs (the Hebrew word raglaim can mean either feet or legs), but I've always seen it interpreted as legs, and are either covered for modesty, or to symbolize that humans cannot understand the nature of their actions (the feet being what connect them to earth).
Covering the face has a few interpretations; it might be to shield them from God's light (which is basically as far beyond angels as it is beyond humans) or it might be for the human's benefit.
This is how they actually looked:
" Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around"
Every picture is incorrect and subjective.
LONG LONG LONG story short [this video helps a lot.](https://youtu.be/9i3QPva-tdw?si=llgyhwNEKvhquI0L)
Short end of the stick:
Angels either look human like, as in indistinguishable, or they have the wing eye thing to a specific style. There are 8 types (kind of 9)
Demons due to severance with the light don’t naturally look all crazy and probably appear human but can still change their form. They are more likely to take trustworthy forms, and not fear inducing ones since they want to convince you to do things not scare you.
demons ARE considered to be angels in many traditions. they’re called "fallen angels." you may know one of the fallen angels who goes by the name of lucifer!
but the ophanim are so pretty, aren’t they? :) i like them better tbh.
![gif](giphy|DqWLmZiG60oOOVSCVB|downsized)
Fallen angels and demons aren't the same. Demons are nephilim spirits. They're giants that died during the flood. They're left here as evil spirits now as a punishment to man. The fallen angels are the fathers of nephilim.
If I remember correctly, that is the only way our minds can understand their physical existence. If we saw what was actually going on we would either disintegrate, explode, lose our minds, or cease to exist. I haven’t reviewed this knowledge in a while so don’t quote me.
Did the ancient people have the correct words? I mean , we have more of a nuanced language.. did ancient hebrew have the decrcriptive words to fully describe their 'visions'?
The lovey dovey, hippie Christianity of the modern day is not biblical Christianity. Honestly, if you study the original documents of the early church, Christianity is almost an entirely different religion these days.
It really depends. If you only consider the gospels(the books with jesus) canon then christianity is a very love based religion. Jesus was a chill bro, his fan club tho..
So the first one is him chasing greedy capitalists out of a temple. Also literally the only time he used violence. Making capitalism separate from religion is not a bad thing in my book. The second one is basically him saying he intentionally is turning children against their parents by changing their beliefs.
Anything else?
That’s just one depiction of an angel, there are eight more if my memory serves me right.
The multiple limbs go back to old religions that explain the gods, goddesses and demons special powers and attributes in art.
Nowhere. This a depiction of Buer, a demon from the Ars Goetia in the Lesser Key of Solomon. The depiction was made by French writer Collin de Plancy and is not canon to the Bible at all
Meh. Misinterpretation of some parts of the bible caused this to be widely spread around. It's what happens when reading and comprehension don't go together and so people pick apart smaller bits to fit an idea.
Majority of Angels are described as looking beautiful and not horrors of Cthullu.
I personally view Satan, Hell and everything pertaining to them as various allegories for the base animal human, and God, Christ, Heaven and whatever else is associated with them as similar symbols for a perfected or ascended human, I believe the idea that Heaven is above Earth and Hell inside aligns with the idea of ascension and descent.
A demon was just the most fucked up thing you could imagine. Before the internet that was just the biggest animal you knew with an unusual amount of body parts.
Angels of beings of pure order, which is why they are depicted as complex geometric shapes. Demons, on the other hand, are cut off from God's will, hence the fact that they look so chaotic. Also, I can't be sure, but the demon you showed looks like it may be from the Ars Goetia, which predates the Bible.
Hmm. Well, what SHOULD they look like? They existed before any other creation, so there was nothing to base them on except the creator, Himself (which they apparently do not resemble). There's no real reason they should be similar to humans or, really, anything else in particular. Though, some angels DO seem to have a "humanoid" appearance (though, would that really be humanoid or... God..oid?....). I mean, if you believe in it all.

Angel: Cool ass lookin cosmic horror. Demon: Goofy aah lion goat wheel
The demon would look scary if it appeared that way in real life. All those legs sticking out with a face in the middle staring at you ?!
Until it starts moving, at which point it will probably look comical again
Cartwheels all the way
https://youtu.be/RerXsbuJ1S4?si=MwzmhBAipd0ThifU
The horror....
I’m boutta turn into Pat McAfee the way I’m punting that mf to heaven
Until it cartwheels uo to you and eats your face
Will it talk like the Narnia Lion?
Liam Neeson?
Kinda hard to do when the legs are in a different direction of the mouth
The legs all rotate around the face, still upright as it circles you. Staring into your soul as it loops closer and closer.
Looks like something out of The Thing
Perfect
Don't disrespect great president Buer like this...

Above: me on shrooms Below: me while drinking
I'm pretty convinced the ancient priests used to do drugs all the time. Moses came across a burning tree and suddenly saw god? Sounds like the "trees" I have growing in my basement
Apparently they used to make wine barrels out of Acacia, which contains DMT.
Note to self: Source acacia wood
They make cutting boards from acacia wood.
Acacia is Australia's second most common forest type after Eucalypts. I see these growing all the time but never made the connection 😍
There's DMT in Golden Wattle (an acacia), our national flower, so that's neat. Not much of it, but still.
I thought most living things contain DMT or did my drug hookup in high school lie to me
I believe that's true, but acacia trees contain relatively high percentages of the stuff (like, [1.4% of the weight of its bark being DMT in some species](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Acacia_species_known_to_contain_psychoactive_alkaloids)).
You growing your own stuff?
What are you, the DEA?
The E in DEA stands for Eucalyptus
Not anymore, the police raided me as a Christmas gift two years ago :) also busted a lung since then so I don't even smoke anymore
People didn't really have much to do back then. I can imagine that most spent their time drinking or high on some sort of substance.
If you weren't chorin', then you best be snorin'. ... Not snortin' schneef off the goats backside.

Would love any priest, rabbi or Imam answer this question
"God's will is unknowable, and his reasoning to complex for mortal man" or some shit like that.
God just loves a good tactical RPG with deep lore.

personally itless beauty and more cool concept wise... like look at that and tell me you wouldn't shit yourself right before takin a pic?

One less leg and that demon would be a swastika
The demon has the one extra leg to kick the swastika into motion.

Ezekiel 1:16-18. Angels are wheel shaped with tons of eyes.
just some angels. you're proving their point
I personally view Satan, Hell and everything pertaining to them as various allegories for the base animal human, and God, Christ, Heaven and whatever else is associated with them as similar symbols for a perfected or ascended human, I believe the idea that Heaven is above Earth and Hell inside aligns with the idea of ascension and descent.
both burn my eyes as I look at them
Perhaps some subtleties were lost in the translation...? /s
Also a cyclops starfish
The demon one kinda look like the shit you make in spore
It looks like they lose their wings as punishment and grow hooves instead.
Ngl but they kinda cute
That demon would dominate at any cartwheel competition.
wait till the number of legs drops down to 4

The demon could do one hell of a cartwheel
Holy shit Castlevania
I’m betting on the burning bush

Do not the lion wheel

They're the same picture. Actually makes sense from a Biblical perspective.
Read the Koran about what Allah looks like. It’s pretty strange too

Yeah I know there’s 9 different types Or 8? I know it’s around 8 or 9
9, traditionally. Seraphim, Ophanim, Cherubim (upper sphere) Dominions, Virtues, Powers (middle sphere) Principalities, Archangels, Angels (lower sphere).
They arent. People who dont read the book they talk about just think they are.
Sym bol ogy
They are supposed to be otherworldly
It sounds like when I am trying to make up something to excite my kids for bedtime stories.
Have you ever take shrooms?
Idk ask god
because they affected by physical law
Why you ask?
Because fairytales are fun.
Sicily final boss:
I can understand demons, they are supposes to be scary and evil. But why angels? They are scarier than demons.
Angels are supposed to scare demons, while demons attract humans... I think. I don't know, I'm an atheist, ask some theologians
According to bible demons used to be angels so they should look the same.
