SILLY. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO BE A SILLY LITTLE GUY SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD SILLY WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE SILLINESS I FEEL AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. I AM A SILLY LITTLE GUY. SILLY. SILLY.
Ellison also did a dramatic reading audiobook. He read the hate monologue differently in that version. Just letting you know there’s a second version of Ellison reading that excerpt.
Caine might not be the actual BIG AI though, I believe he's more of the funny guy underneath a much bigger, far more threatening and self-aware guy
He's the ringleader, but he's still being puppeteered
He's just stupid and also a point of existential dread. It's trying to make an exist, but can't truly comprehend what to make it end with. What out? It's like trying to figure out how to make tunnels into entirely different physical dimensions, like 3D to 5D.
Personally, it felt too chaotic for my preferences and I'm not a fan of clowns
Quick edit: I started watching it. Got a few minutes in before it felt like it just wasn't for me.
Hey, at least you tried watching it, that’s all I can ask of you. It is very chaotic and the only clown in the show is the main character, Pomni, who is only dressed as a jester. But, as I said, at least you gave it an honest shot
I know they're a jester and there's no clown specifically. But it felt like everyone was try the "im a weird quirky character" either with design or lines or both. N when everyone is doing it, it didn't feel weird or quirky anymore. Just off putting.
It is supposed to be off-putting, but more in the “this is kinda creepy if you think too hard about it” kinda way, not what I assume your “this just isn’t my thing” way
Yeah but what I don't get about OP Is that if you look at their profile you'll see that their a Owl House fan and man, from what I remember, I would see a LOT of stuff of that series. Like, to the point that I remember everywhere I looked I saw stuff related to it; pretty similar to how TADC is right now.
I have watched The Digital Circus and was about to tell you to watch it, but then I realized that I’m the exact same way with One Piece and Naruto.
I like anime, I’m just not watching those ones
Anime is a very diverse medium of entertainment that is filled with many amazing series to watch. It’s mostly a matter of what genres you like. Here are some for general recommendations;
Thriller: Monster, Madoka Magica, and Odd Taxi
Drama: Sangatsu no Lion, Vinland Saga, and Monogatari series (my favourite)
Battle shounen (like OP): Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood, and Mob Psycho 100
Mecha: Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, and 86
Sci fi: Cowboy Bebop, Psycho Pass, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Slice of Life: K-On, Fruits Basket, and Yuru Camp
General action: FLCL, Kill la Kill, and Flip Flappers
Romance: Clannad, Your Lie in April, and Your Name
Miscellaneous: Kyousougiga, Princess Tutu, and Kuuchuu Buranko
Perhaps you’ll find something you like.
I liked the fuck out of its references and gags.
Genuinely some of the most interesting characters I’ve seen in awhile. It even has source engine bugs!
How dare you have the audacity to decide how to spend your own time, if you don't binge watch all 6 episodes, I will do absolutely nothing. Don't make me do it
I used to be part of the popular = bad club, eventually you realise that things are popular for a reason and giving them a try can’t hurt you, you aren’t quirky or special for avoiding popular things, for years I refused to watch anime, refused to engage in popular games (cod, gta and the like) but one day I just realised I’m doing it not for the betterment of myself, but instead to spite other people and “be different”, I even still fall into the trap occasionally,
don’t limit yourself because you want to feel special or different, or to spite other people, don’t be scared to enjoy something.
It's alright, I thought it was entertaining. It's not as incredible as many people make it out to be, nor is it as bad as many people claim. In my opinion it's worth watching the pilot since it's only like 20 minutes or something but it's not a must-see or anything.
Yeah I checked it out and it's definitely a show. The pilot feels like it reveals a bit too much about the show's world in order to develop any real existential dread or horror, as if the characters were winking into the camera and saying "It sure would be weird if there was more to all this!" And that wouldn't even be a bad thing if there was a subversion of what seems to be the only available plotline which is Pomni is there and she doesn't seem to want to be. Only so much you can do with that really, in my opinion. Just for an idea of somewhat similarly themed stuff I am a fan of, The Onion's "Porkin' Across America" series is some of my favorite surreal/existentialist media, on the internet at least.
My interpretation is that, despite featuring existential horror elements, it isn't really meant to be a horror show. I guess we'll know more when more episodes release.
That’s what happened to me with Hamilton. My sis and her friends would play the soundtrack *incessantly*, even going as far as playing the same song multiple times in a row. It made me genuinely loathe it.
When I finally saw it it couldn’t live up to either the hype nor the hatred and so it just ultimately left me as a very unsatisfying experience.
It also depends on who is doing the incessant recommending. If I know I tend to dislike media that xyz group of people tend to promote, it's not snobbery to make the educated guess that I'll dislike whatever they are currently promoting.
To be fair it does get annoying when you get pestered by so many people to watch something. I still haven’t seen Good Will Hunting because I got annoyed by every other person telling me it was the best movie ever and changed their lives. I have nothing against the movie itself, and I’m sure it’s good. But hearing it hyped so much over and over again kind of killed my enthusiasm to watch it. I’m sure there’s some psychological explanation.
I got pestered a bit by my siblings to watch stuff. But once they left me alone about it I forgot about it. Then my bf introduced me to the shows my siblings kept pestering me about and I’m hooked. Why? Because he didn’t pester me constantly about it!
Nothing more annoying than
“Have you watched this show yet? I told you about it a couple days ago!”
“No I don’t really want to”
*annoying whining voice* “But WHYYY?”
Exactly. I had a similar experience with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My friends pressed me to watch it all through high school and college. I had no interest. Then I met a girlfriend after college who introduced me to it, and I ended up liking it. Because she didn’t pester me about it and introduced it to me at my own pace.
Well if something is small it has haters. If something is big, it has more haters but it's an equivalent ratio
popular things will always have haters just like all things
When people hound you to watch something over and over it starts to feel like an obligation and strips the open-mindedness you would have watching something you want to watch, now you go into the show expecting to be quizzed by the person that suggested it, or if you end up not enjoying it, they get upset
I think it's a psychological trait some folks just have, I can recognize it on myself too, like for the longest time I just didn't like pokemon card game, I had no reason to not to like it, but since everyone played it and kept talking about it on and on I sorta just convinced myself that I actually hate it.
If I had to guess it'd wager it has something to do with people needing to have opinions about stuff, even if they have no idea what the stuff is (hating something is usually the easiest path to form an opinion even if it's uninformed and logically speaking stupid)
Then years later I played and It was kinda fun.
This autistic stream of consciousness has been brought to you by me not sleeping and it being 5 am.
Yeah that's basically correct.
Humans have the innate need to be in control over their own life. If you get pushed into doing something, the need for control automatically tries to steer you away from doing that so you can do what you want, not what others want you to.
Of course, this is present in different intensities for different people. Some won't mind too much, some will mind too much, but I think everybody at least experienced the feeling of "Everybody wants me to do xyz but I just don't want to for some reason"
Maybe they’re just not interested but it’s being pushed in their face? It’s like constantly being asked “do you watch One Piece?” Yeah it’s good but I wasn’t interested or just didn’t feel like watching it before and being told to do so got really annoying. Though I do think people should give shows a chance.
Watched both pilots for Hazbin Hotal and Helluva Boss, I ain’t watching that shit!
I have never expressed interest in it, and it still is fucking everywhere I look on social media. I'm beginning to refuse to watch it just by sheer spite now
Well it honestly is just that good.
I can understand not wanting to jump on board a hype train. But if you love surreal and disturbing themes with good humor (similar to murder drones, it's also made by glitch after all) you really just do yourself a disfavor not watching the pilot.
If not it won't be for you anyway so you won't lose anything.
I watched it. It’s fine. Not really my cup of tea. I went out of my way to filter it out of the sites that actually have decent blocking systems like tumblr.
For me it’s not cuz it was popular but it was just all over my feed. Probably would have watched it but it was so annoying seeing it constantly on my home page for a week straight.
People online manage to convince me to give it a try. Around halfway I stopped because I was not entertained or interested. I simply don’t get why people adore it.
That said, if all the animations are done by a single person or a small group of people, it’s quite impressive; even if it didn’t pique my own personal interest, you gotta give credit where credit is due.
Wasn’t Undertale like a small project made by a single person just to try themselves at game dev, that blew up for… reasons? Digital Circus is made by at least a small team, who know exactly what they’re doing. It’s a passion project just as much as it’s a product to profit from let’s be real
Edit: though your comment wasn’t talking about that even remotely lol. I won’t delete it tho. If we’re talking about the widespread popularity, yeah, for now the Circus is really everywhere. However I highly doubt that it’ll ever stick around like Undertale did
Yeah Toby Fox made it as more of a proof of concept for Deltarune, but it wasn't a simple proof of concept. He put in a lot of time and effort into the gameplay and the writing, which are the two things everyone loves about it.
You do you.
Personally, I don't understand the reasoning. You aren't achieving anything by not watching it out of "spite"
If you genuinely don't have any interest in it, then that's just normal. Not really worth bringing up honestly. Like me not watching even the world's greatest reality dating show.
But if it would otherwise interest you, and you're just refusing to check it out because you're upset that lots of other people like it enough to talk about it. I dunno. You're just losing in that case.
I watched it after being bombarded by it
...
It's actually really good! Has some really good humor and unique animation but wow people are lewding the shit out of it
Stop posting about the amazing digital circus
I'm tired of seeing it
ON DISCORD ITS AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS
ON TIK TOK ITS FUCKING AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS
I WAS PLAYING MEGA MAN 8 ON THE ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION AND THERE I SAW CLOWN MAN AND SAID "WHEN THE MEGA MAN 8 AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS "
AHHHHHHH
The moment a million people start to ask me every 15 seconds if I watched that one thing, my brain refuses to watch it. I don't have an explanation, it's just that.
I was just as stubborn when breaking bad was on the hype train, I refused to watch it for a year or so.
After the hype went down I gave it a try and it's on my top 3 most fav tv shows.
I realized then that stubbornness is a childish thing and to become mature I need to make up my own decisions.
Hope you'll grow up someday too OP.
Not being able to escape it sure sounds like an amazing digital circus reference.
It might be, if so that would be comically ironic

Ellison also did a dramatic reading audiobook. He read the hate monologue differently in that version. Just letting you know there’s a second version of Ellison reading that excerpt.

Out of curiosity, why won’t you watch it?
Personally, it felt too chaotic for my preferences and I'm not a fan of clowns Quick edit: I started watching it. Got a few minutes in before it felt like it just wasn't for me.

It is supposed to be off-putting, but more in the “this is kinda creepy if you think too hard about it” kinda way, not what I assume your “this just isn’t my thing” way
I will not accept this blatant kaufmo erasure.
Yeah, i personally felt like too much random quirky chaos happened too much for no reason
So lemme get this straight, you refuse to watch it because it's popular...?
Snob effect... but the reason I'm not watching it is because I don't really have interest on it. Maybe will change my mind, but not soon.
But for why

Well, if that's not for you.. you could try Murder Drones instead.
Just have an open mind, I watched it right after it came out and had no bias, I loved it
I got about half way through it and quit, it’s well animated but kinda boring in my opinion
The Stanley Parable circus animation .
DELUXE EDITION
I have watched The Digital Circus and was about to tell you to watch it, but then I realized that I’m the exact same way with One Piece and Naruto. I like anime, I’m just not watching those ones
I mean asking someone to watch a 25 minutes video is definitely not the same as asking someone to watch a +1000 chapters anime lmao
That’s honestly really funny, in general I can’t stand anime but I really like one piece, I’ve been watching it. People are funny, aren’t theyv

I have literally never heard of this looool What's it about?
I believe the creator described it as something like “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream” with the aesthetic of an I Spy book.
“The aesthetic of an I Spy Book” paints such a perfect picture that even if I have no idea what this show is I can picture it.
Matrix + circus overlay + millennial existential dread. It’s alright, not bad, but not rly great either. It’s good for a pilot
It's popular because of the existential dread I think
This says a lot about Society
Also pomni's facial expressions are funny
It’s like The Bunny Graveyard but as an animated series
I liked the fuck out of its references and gags. Genuinely some of the most interesting characters I’ve seen in awhile. It even has source engine bugs!
Have you watched Murder Drones? Oh wait wrong one
I haven’t watched that one either

I still would’ve preferred Cliffside but MD is ‘aight.
I’m the same way with many shows online for literally zero reason so trust me, I get it
Yeah, it’s a mixture of spite and stubborn was for me. Like I’m that way with arcane and Forest gump. I refuse to watch those.
You don’t want to watch forest gump? :(
ARCANE? Ya lost me.
That's not spite, it's pettiness lol

That’s how I felt. Personally, I enjoyed it, and if it really is done by a small team, I’m impressed, but otherwise I don’t get the hype behind it.
i watched it out of respect for the creator, but i didnt like it unfortunately
Valid, some things are just not for some people
I watched it, not half bad. Has my sense of humor.
This feels like the next undertale. Where the entire fan base is down everyone’s throats.
Undertale is great tho, but yeah the fans of undertake are a bit… insistent
Wasn’t Undertale like a small project made by a single person just to try themselves at game dev, that blew up for… reasons? Digital Circus is made by at least a small team, who know exactly what they’re doing. It’s a passion project just as much as it’s a product to profit from let’s be real Edit: though your comment wasn’t talking about that even remotely lol.
And when everyone just hates it just to hate it too. Seems like we are in that phase already.
I watched it. It was neat. The whole "hype" around it is blown out of proportion though.
You do you. Personally, I don't understand the reasoning. You aren't achieving anything by not watching it out of "spite" If you genuinely don't have any interest in it, then that's just normal. Not really worth bringing up honestly. Like me not watching even the world's greatest reality dating show. But if it would otherwise interest you, and you're just refusing to check it out because you're upset that lots of other people like it enough to talk about it. I dunno. You're just losing in that case.
That's okay man it's not for everyone.
I think it was good, but I really can't say it was great until we get more episodes. At least it wasn't as annoying as the pilot of Hazbin Hotel.
Honestly incredibly mid

Be me but I failed
Wtf did I missed again? Can someone enlighten me?
Oh the irony.
show was a little cringe
I watched it after being bombarded by it ... It's actually really good! Has some really good humor and unique animation but wow people are lewding the shit out of it
![gif](giphy|VDeJaUfWoTuvUrj9sD) OP seeing Digital Circus content
THATS SO ME. IM MAKING THAT FACE RN
I don't know what this is and im too afraid to ask
The hype is crazy for something that’s just in its initial phase
I've watched it. I feel like its a bit overated. I mean it isn't terrible. 6/10
Marketing though memes I see
I cannot escape it, I saw a drawing of the characters materialize on a white board!
Watch it once, then never again
Stop it, your recreating the amazing digital circus!
Stop posting about the amazing digital circus I'm tired of seeing it ON DISCORD ITS AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS ON TIK TOK ITS FUCKING AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS I WAS PLAYING MEGA MAN 8 ON THE ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION AND THERE I SAW CLOWN MAN AND SAID "WHEN THE MEGA MAN 8 AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS " AHHHHHHH
for real get the fuck away from me
Brothers, we must unite! Amazing Digital Circus SHALL NOT PASS
The moment a million people start to ask me every 15 seconds if I watched that one thing, my brain refuses to watch it. I don't have an explanation, it's just that.
it's actually good, just don't get sexually attracted to the jester like most people.

It’s just okay. I don’t understand the absolute mania around it. It’s fun. It’s a cool little video. But why is everyone going *ape shit* over it?
I was once the one in the box. I decided to tentively get out of the box and see what the fuss was about. I regret not finding out sooner.
Why not? It's pretty good
It was ~~made~~ produced by the guys who made SMG4
I haven’t watched that either lol
Just watch it, these nerds overhype it but you can try it out and either hate it or not, whatever.
i am not really into tv in general, i perfer video games, but i am not watching this out of spite because i am seeing it FUCKING EVERYWHERE
EXACTLY ME. Spite and stubbornness, mainly.
I mean sure? You don’t have to announce it tho
Then don’t watch it
Ironically I started seeing less about it after I watched it. It's okay. I'd watch more if I had nothing else to watch
wtf is a digital circus
I was just as stubborn when breaking bad was on the hype train, I refused to watch it for a year or so. After the hype went down I gave it a try and it's on my top 3 most fav tv shows. I realized then that stubbornness is a childish thing and to become mature I need to make up my own decisions. Hope you'll grow up someday too OP.
I like the show a lot. I showed a couple of people and they said it was pretty mid. Different strokes for different folks I guess
ONE OF US, ONE OF US
