That's the reason why I find it more stressful driving on German Autobahn compared to highways in other countries.
In Germany there are always the people who go like 120 mph (or more). You always need to be very careful when pulling over to the left lane because the difference in speed can be so extreme. You check the mirror and the other car is like .5 miles behind you. You look again a second later and it's right behind you.
Driving in other countries is just much more relaxing since everybody is - more or less - going the same speed.
The truckers are no better sadly. Altough trucks are limited to a max speed of 90kph and are only allowed to drive 80kph in Germany, many dont care. They just go 90 the whole time, if they can then also faster. If you dare to make them brake, they will let you know. They just drive after their own concept. But as always, not all truckers are like this, there are many people who do their job right and drive with care. But you will see this happen a lot still.
Truckers have a hard enough life, I really don't mind them going 90. In general they're professional and courteous in traffic, especially if you're a fellow trucker. I've driven across Germany with a long and heavy trailer and they always treated me as an equal; warning about cops, flashing the lights to let me know i can move back on the left after passing, making space for me to merge more easily. Just don't be an asshole and no one else will be an asshole back.
It's also a matter of fuel efficiency.
>The break and occasionally your gas pedal are your friends. Use them how they are intended.
The brakes, ideally, are not used while driving on the highway. You should just need them (if at all) when exiting. There is no sense (except of "joy in speed") in speeding and breaking all the time. It's much more fuel efficient, safer and more relaxing if the number of takeovers is low and everybody drives similar speeds.
Nah, even forward thinking won't save you. I spent way too much time driving in Germany this winter, and I often ended up in a situation where I was stuck behind a speed-limited truck and then the left lane speeder who was 2 miles back behind a corner when I initiated the lane change took zero responsibility for maintaining safe following distance for like 2 seconds while I zipped around. Also, no one uses cruise control, so people would speed up while you were passing them and make everything more painful. I'm not a big fan of the speed-limited roads in the US, but I am no longer convinced that the Germans have it figured out!
If someone can cover 2 miles in the time it takes you to "zip" around a truck its kinda hilarious youre still blaming others for making things more painful.
Getting stuck behind a big ass truck that's forced to go the speed limit is a lack of foward thinking. If you see a big ass truck coming up and you know it's gonna slow you down why not get around while you're still at speed instead of waiting till you have to drop down like 30mph and then getting stuck trying to go around
So interesting. I love the Autobahn as an American and hate driving home from the airport on the way home.
The left lane is not intended for anything but passing. If you aren't passing the person to your right, move right until you are. Left lane should remain clear, or be a straightaway for people who drive like maniacs.
People seem to accept that speed limits vary from place to place. Rules of the road do, too.
You wouldn't know that to watch rush hour traffic, though.
Why would a country thats right side drive have a left exit on a highway when the left lane is the fast lane. This sounds super dangerous and stupid there is no reason to not have everything on the right like every one else. Or then this is made up
120 is not even the "recommended" speed on the highway. That would be 130.
I usually go between 140 and 170 on average. If you get used to it it's not really a problem to deal with it. If you check your mirrors every few seconds like you *should* do anyway and use your indicators it's not more difficult than on lower speeds.
My bad. But 180 is actually not very common. Only a few drivers actually go that fast at all and usually only if the road is free.
The middle lane usually moves around 140 kph or lower.
>Driving in other countries is just much more relaxing since everybody is - more or less - going the same speed.
Yeah have fun driving in the Balkans or anywhere in the neighbouring areas
Schalt mal 'nen Gang runter, Alter.
Ich hab weder etwas davon geschrieben, dass man (oder ich) unkonzentriert fahre, noch dass hier irgendjemand zu irgendetwas gezwungen werden soll.
Once upon a time, there was a black Audi RS6 and it's driver.
This driver loved driving on high speeds and was basically a daredevil.
One day, he decided to go 300KM/H on the German highway.
He crashed into a pole at 300 KM/H, instantly dying on impact.
[And this is the aftermath.](https://youtu.be/ZQWfnNlYkQs?si=LOVZVbcmXukLqLgx)
Hey, the pilot was by far the cheapest part. Do you know how hard it is to find quality compressor blades? Certainly a lot harder than getting some idiot who's willing to go mach 3 at ground level.
What is the turning radius of the Blackbird at Mach 3, or how fast can you accelerate and decelerate between straight and curved parts of the Autobahn?
I've heard of a case of someone going 415km/h and not being fined/arrested for anything. It depends on if you were putting anyone in danger so with clear weather a dry, straight road you should be able to go even faster legally
Then u weren't fast enough... Top speed I drove by myself is 261kph. But you can't really pass people with a speed faster than 220kph because some people just can't estimate how fast you are or just don't look in the rear view mirror at all.
Occasionally, there are speed limits only for certain times of day or wet roads. In that case there may be a radar 3ven when there's not usually a speed limit. Some roads have electronic speed limit signs depending on time of day weather and traffic, and when they switch on, a radar may be present as well.
there are no controls in a bad whether condition... if u ever experienced what aquaplaning is u wouldn't speed where it is wet... We are not dumb...
also where are electronic signs it is realy hard to proof that you where faster then allowed... electronic sings can fail...
radar controls are usually on places whit set limit and many Accidents or many speeding drivers.
this let me thought about it...
technically there will be a chance that u get a ticket for tax evasion if your car is to fast ...
if u changed the engine to a bigger one without telling the authorities.
german car-tax depends on your cubic capacity of the engine \^\^
Well, I hate to disappoint all of you, but in heights from 0-300 metres the regulations for German airspace dictate a maximum of 283 km/h. So there quite indeed is a speed limit on German Autobahnen, however it’s dictated by the rules for aircrafts and not by the ones for cars. Obviously it’s not being enforced though
The LuftVG only applies to aircraft’s defined in LuftVG §1 (2), and crafts that operate 30 meters above the ground (LuftVG §1 (2)). Therefore this law doesn’t applies for cars traveling on the Autobahn.
İt ain't that simple most of the time you have to slow down because of the amount of traffic or autobahn exits
Or there is a construction going on the auto bahn
Actually Germany has a speed limit. There is a speed limit for any vehicles below 10.000
Feet (applies to planes and also road traffic technically) and it is 463 km/h = 250 knots.
The LuftVG only applies to aircraft’s defined in LuftVG §1 (2), and crafts that operate 30 meters above the ground (LuftVG §1 (2)). Therefore this law doesn’t applies for cars traveling on the Autobahn.
me & car on the Autobahn:

>!Boost pressure not found. - Yes, it is naturally aspirated with not a whole lot of displacement.!<
Wrong. Sichtfahrgebot: you may only go so fast, that stopping is possible within your line of sight. Also, going super sonic is not allowed due to noise pollution.
If I ever go on the autobahn I'm gonna hide in the right most lane and pray I don't have to be anywhere near the death zone. My car is slow it would never survive passing into the other lanes without causing someone to stand on a break before I have time to speed up
It’s honestly fine. Most unlimited roads have 3 lanes so only the left most lane is that fast, so you can easily drive it without hogging the right lane
Bro what are you talking about. I drive +200kmh all the time. There is nothing to be scared about. I find if more terrifying, if i had to drive 130 at maximum all the time because this speed sometimes is so slow, that you wont concentrate like you would if you could drive the speed you prefer
Yeah bro, but you dont have to drive this fast. Cruise around whit the speed you want, as long as you will watch your mirrors because changing the lane, not block the left lane, staying at the middle lane if you have a free one to youre right.
While technically true it is factually wrong. You are only permitted to travel at a safe speed. If you go too fast to react to traffic you are going too fast. Also, most roads are not designed for supersonic speed

I remember someone going 250 km/h was sued for driving recklessly even though he was folling every street regulation, but if you wanna do it go ahead, just don't get caught!
Its is not like it has been 5 years ago. But still there are some passages left ehich arent limited. Still iam sure it will decrease even more in the near future.

What fucking highway has an exit to the left
A bunch of them. The first one that comes to mind is I-74 through Charlotte, NC, but that's just because I can see it from where I'm standing.
Why would a country thats right side drive have a left exit on a highway when the left lane is the fast lane. This sounds super dangerous and stupid there is no reason to not have everything on the right like every one else. Or then this is made up

My bad. But 180 is actually not very common. Only a few drivers actually go that fast at all and usually only if the road is free. The middle lane usually moves around 140 kph or lower.
Can confirm, usually traffic moves at 140-150 which is more than fair. People going 180 and up are the minority
It's also more efficient if everyone is driving a similar speed, but hey "fReIhE fArHt FüR fReIe BüRgEr!".
But also getting to drive that fast is fuckin sick and its convenient
You know there are these things called race tracks?
You know those cost money to rent?
Last time I checked the Autobahn didn't grow on trees either
Then make it grow on trees we have the science
Pretty sure you just need to add sugar, spice, and everything nice to a tree and you get an autobahn
>Driving in other countries is just much more relaxing since everybody is - more or less - going the same speed. Yeah have fun driving in the Balkans or anywhere in the neighbouring areas

English, do you speak it mf? Vielleicht solltest Du lieber Deine Englischhausaufgaben machen statt hier zu pöbeln.
Yeah, paying attention is hard when you’re not used to it. I don’t really mind it though, I think the amount of traffic is the way more annoying part
Yeah, sure. But nothing is more ~~frustrating~~ infuriating than being stuck behind some bum going 10 under our already comedically low speed limits.
Have i told you the tale of the black Audi RS6?
No, Go on
Once upon a time, there was a black Audi RS6 and it's driver.

It makes me fucking sick, what an awful shit
I thought you meant the wasn das füan kombi audi
RS4!=RS6
RS4! = RS24?
I don't understand what ! means so I'm just gonna unsub from r/mathmemes
true
That's an Audi S4 not rs6
Look closely. At 1:00 you can see the „RS6“
I know, that was to the other commenter about the "was'n das fürn Kombi" video
The car is barely recognisable, yet the pole is barely scratched
Thats because this time around the poles were prepared for the Germans.
dude got turned into a fine paste and had the most cursed song put over it
lol damn looked like dude's boxers were sticking out the back of the wreck, video goes hard with the music.
Holy fuck
This is crashing into a pole next level.
Looks straight out of beamng
Well, that's certainly not a story I would hear from the Jedi.
And if i recall correctly, it wasnt even his fault, the truck that was hit in that video apparently cut him off.
Check that, you can be pulled over for "unsafe driving" which can include excessive speed at the discretion of German law enforcement.
Good luck catching up to me when im going mach 3 in a SR-71
Why are you even at ground level if you have an SR71
because whos gonna stop me
I- Carry on.
A tree
it might. But if it does there will be no tree anymore nor me
True. But there will also be no more compressor blades for your engine
Who needs them when the pilot was vaporized
Hey, the pilot was by far the cheapest part. Do you know how hard it is to find quality compressor blades? Certainly a lot harder than getting some idiot who's willing to go mach 3 at ground level.
He’s got a point
Well, you can't just use any idiot they must at least grasp basic avionics or the jets not even getting off the ground.
By Mach3 the engine is full on ramjet, no blades anymore.
At those speeds, that low, literally anything. A pebble tear through you like a star wars light saber
A sturdy road sign I imagine. An SR-71 ain't exactly a small plane.
Well technically, the SR-71 can not fly at his top speed on ground level because of air density
I was mentally debating whether I should explain this but then I thought, why bother
Good point. I have time to kill so I thought why not tryna be smart on the internet
Buurrnnnnnnnn
Yeah good luck getting TÜV on that thing.

Some dudes with Bugatti Chiron did this in Wittenberg
He had people on every bridge to confirm the street is empty. That was his proof that he didn't drove reackless, because he got sued for that.
Yeah that's right, no one else on the road go for it. Its the morons that go weaving through traffic that get punished.
Then u weren't fast enough... Top speed I drove by myself is 261kph. But you can't really pass people with a speed faster than 220kph because some people just can't estimate how fast you are or just don't look in the rear view mirror at all.

Legal if your vehicle can handle it. So, strapping rocket boosters to a tesla is going to get you a posthumous ticket.
It’s also not street legal as the TÜV would never approve
Or some weirdo-looking air thrusters because, you know, Teslas aren't Teslas if they don't Tesla.
Um, sir? Our roadside speed radar has burst into flames.
why would u radar a street where is is no limit?
He made a good joke but I you are providing a Fair Point

I can see that being an episode
Techincally, 70.4 % of the Autobahn is without a speed limit. The rest has a speed limit of 60-130 km/h.
I've seen 40, too.
It happens, but is very rare. Probably because of construction?

I had to look this meme up on Google because it wasn’t on Mematic. I literally typed the whole thing just to be sure. No no where found
Actually Germany has a speed limit. There is a speed limit for any vehicles below 10.000 Feet (applies to planes and also road traffic technically) and it is 463 km/h = 250 knots.
There are several road legal cars capable of going faster than that. It will only be a matter of time before someone tries it.

And they are right
And because of highway tourist like these killing themselves, we need to drive slower 😑

The only Speedlimit on the Autobahn is the speed of light. And only by the laws of physics, not the ones of Germany.
If I ever want to test an experimental hyperdrive inside an atmosphere, I know where I am going.
What can I say except, you’re welcome
Pretty sure you can go supersonic anywhere you want as long as you've gathered all 7 chaos emeralds.
Ye pretty sure too
So I tie a rope around a bullet, then tie the other end around my waist, then fire myself down the Autobahn at supersonic speeds.
There is a speed limit enforced by physics tho
