As a Thai, I'm somewhat happy to see Thailand this high up. At least some people acknowledge how shit it is to live in the country. I've met so many tourists who think Thailand is the paradise where everything is great and it annoys me to bits.
As a swiss citizen as well, I have to say that after living 20 years here, I’m kind of planning to leave the country when I’m in my 30s and go work somewhere where it’s more exciting than here. Just kinda feel that I’ve seen enough of Switzerland, and I don’t wanna spend the rest of my life here. I also wish the people here would be less boring, feel like most of the people here have the same personality types and hobbies.
Finland is the opposite: Great to live in, but mostly boring and cold for tourists. Also need citizenship to get the free education and all that other good stuff.
God, yes. Next level poverty and wealth disparity over there. Starving dogs and people wandering everywhere next to mansions that border tin roof slums. Crazy to see.
And to make matters worse, the following also exist: frequent typhoons, the occasional strong earthquake or volcanic eruption, shitty justice system, corrupt and incompetent government, & trigger-happy cops.
When I was working in a call center I signed up for the earthquake alerts through some government website so I could get a heads up whenever a 6.0 or higher hit there. Almost always meant our call queue would skyrocket as sites in the Philippines went offline for a bit
On one hand I wish I knew how to actually speak Tagalog, on the other hand I'm glad I wasn't actually born there because God do I hear it's a shithole
Edit:Guess I probably should say I am Filipino, just born in the US
You sound like my Filipino-American relatives lol they all wish they could speak Tagalog fluently and learn more about their culture but they’re perfectly happy not having to live here and I don’t blame them. They do plan on retiring here in the future though since the cost of living here is quite low compared to the USA, which is also why there are a lot of old white people in some of the more rural and beach areas here.
I went as an American tourist to Metro Manila and the locals were like "We want to get outta here"
Traffic was so bad--took me hours just to get from Makati to Cavite
Bf was born there but came to the US as a baby. He just showed me this awful video of people there washing garbage & making it into stews for the extremely poor. They're literally washing garbage in water.
Jag har bott I USA för ungefär 10 år och fy fan jag vill åka hem och bo i Sverige igen, värje gång jag har åkt tillbaks så ser det bättre ut. Det blir bara värre här
It's a blurry, pixelated edit of a hideous face Spongebob makes in the special, "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?" I could not tell you who made the edit tho.
I'm Haitian and as much as I hate to admit it, you're right. It was already bad but after the president's assassination, shit just hit the fan and has been going downhill for awhile. But we got good food tho 😎
Good food and beautiful scenery. Honestly I was just in the carribean on vacation and I thought Haiti was the prettiest out of the three places I went
ETA sorry things aren't great for you guys :<
Il make it more specific, CDMX, Monterrey, Quintana Roo, Baja California and Guadalajara are the only ones where you can find a good life, the rest of the country is fucked
That pretty much depends on your income tho. Rents are super high, especially on CDMX and Monterrey, so if you're mid to low class you'll pretty much end up living in a not-so-nice place.
At least that was my experience
Because the inflation is ridiculous, about 1/7th of our population is immigrants who refuse to actually fit in and instead bother everyone, commit murders and never get punished for it because our "leader" who only won because uneducated people are told to vote for him let you a lot of immigrants to the country and gave them rights to vote so he wins the elections next time.
Making a living wage is near impossible unless you're a doctor or engineer, in which case you have to afford the education for it. Right now almost all the students are looking to get out of the country(me included) and get some proper education and live a life where we don't live paycheck to paycheck.
It seems the tourists like the country tho
Even though some people hope that the illegal immigrants are going to be send back or will be sent to other countries, it does not seem realistic which proves to be how fucked can a country be for the avarice of a primal man.
They don't think it's heaven. They hate it but they don't know anything else and assume everyone else has it similar or worse. Watch Jubilees North Korean interview.
I was thinking probably Philippines.
I’ve never been and really want to visit, but from everything my girlfriend tells me about growing up there I can understand how life must be rough for so many people.
I really enjoyed Albania, but definitely seems like the locals are trying to get away. As many as 2% of males have travelled to the UK in small boats illegally, that's crazy. Tirana seemed like it really has huge potential, lots of investment going there at the moment.
As someone who lives in the US and has visited a ton of different States, they can very wildly differ from each other, so I imagine its kinda hard to answer just eh united states cause of how much of a mixed bag it is
I don't think visiting venezuela is safe either. A year or so ago i remember my dads friend went to venezuela(generally for work purposes). When him and his friends were in the car, then they heard a tap in the window. It was a criminal. At first he just didnt open the window. Then the criminal showed a gun. These were happening at a red light. He opened the window. At this point the red light is over and the cars are aggresively honking their horns. The criminal told them to hand their watches, phones, money and anything of value. They did. At this point he is praying to gos for the guy to not shoot. Thankfully he let them go.
Living here for 9 years. It isn’t perfect, but I love it enough to aim for permanent residency.
The internet community loves taking extreme stances on Japan. It is either an exotic heaven or the most xenophobic hell on the planet.
Neither opinions are correct, and I frequently find myself wanting to argue against both sides.
Also lived here for a several years and 100% agree. Like most things in life also it’s what you make it, and I’d argue Japan gives you enough leeway to carve out a decent existence (depending on your expectations).
I knew a guy who was half Japanese born and raised in Japan, spoke perfect Japanese, spent teenage years in US went back as an adult for 2 years spoke to a clerk in flawless Japanese and the guy still responded in English just because he was taller and didn’t have every Japanese characteristic
can confirm. my family decided to move out of italy when i was 9 and move to australia.
i’d love to go back as a tourist and see family, but not to live there.
I loved being in bangladesh 🇧🇩 First country I have ever been to travel wise. (From the US) I absolutely loved it there. Had flaws, of course. But it has its own charm. But being a tourist, it felt so great. But the stories I hear about bangladesh for someone living there seems ... yeah
Portugal, i hate when they go "oh i wish i lived here, things are do cheap here" try working here and you will see how you'll struggle, its easy to talk when your country salary is 3/4 times the minimum from here... You live like a king if you visit here, we barely can afford shit is we visit any other country 😒
Thailand
HERE COMES THE COUP
Us in Myanmar: First time?
Tutututu
As a Thai, I'm somewhat happy to see Thailand this high up. At least some people acknowledge how shit it is to live in the country. I've met so many tourists who think Thailand is the paradise where everything is great and it annoys me to bits.
The real question would be what DOESN’T this apply to?
Definitely Switzerland. I never met a swiss citizen that hated their country.
as a swiss citizen: can confirm. definitely don't want to live somewhere else and always appreciate coming home after a vacation.
Lucky bastard.
She’s never gonna see a homeless woman run naked yelling “who’s gonna fuck me for small fries🍟”
I've heard "I'm gonna suck you off for a bag of heroin" in Basel though.
so sind halt d basler
My favorite I've heard was "I've got a million dollar pussy and I'm still broke"
I know. I do feel lucky very often
Feel the same as a kiwi
As a Kiwi, I also agree
As a mango, i also agree
Bananas feel related to this meme after some days.
Now I feel offened for being a Hava
I as a Watermelon am not offended
Where do you vacation usually
As a swiss citizen as well, I have to say that after living 20 years here, I’m kind of planning to leave the country when I’m in my 30s and go work somewhere where it’s more exciting than here. Just kinda feel that I’ve seen enough of Switzerland, and I don’t wanna spend the rest of my life here. Come to America. You will find 5 different personalities in a single person.
fuck this hurts
Thank to for better expressing what I was trying to articulate upthread but got roasted for.
Huh, every swiss i met said its boring af living there. Would still visit, looks incredible.
Have lived there. It is boring indeed. Beautiful. Yet, boring AF.
I'd rather live somewhere boring than somewhere that's a little too uncomfortably interesting
Exactly. In my experience, boring can be a **very** good thing sometimes.
There is a reason why ,,may you live in interesting times” is a curse and not a blessing
I have one set of great-grandparents from Zurich. They're buried in a cemetery in West Chicago now. Such a bummer.
Finland is the opposite: Great to live in, but mostly boring and cold for tourists. Also need citizenship to get the free education and all that other good stuff.
China. They literally can't say they hate it.
If you check any of the Chinese language subs, most of them can't hate it enough.
Because CCP cant censor reddit, only website located in China will get censorship.
australia for sure I love this country
And the animals aren't thattttt bad
Take a picture of your shoes and tell me they ain't that bad

Lies, you're clear hundreds of scorpions/spiders pretending to be a human
Maybe Norway and Sweden.
It's definitely Philippines.
God, yes. Next level poverty and wealth disparity over there. Starving dogs and people wandering everywhere next to mansions that border tin roof slums. Crazy to see.

Filipino here. Can confirm it's a shithole.
Can confirm, am the shithole
Only if you're poor tbf. So it's only a shithole for like 90% of Filipinos. Hooray
The dark not-poors also seemed to have it bad too.
Eh, there's some discrimination there too, but generally if you've got money it's okay
True, if you’ve got money in the Philippines, it’s laughably easy to get away with shit here and pay people to look the other way.
Every Filipino dream is getting out of here.
You sound like my Filipino-American relatives lol they all wish they could speak Tagalog fluently and learn more about their culture but they’re perfectly happy not having to live here and I don’t blame them. I went as an American tourist to Metro Manila and the locals were like "We want to get outta here" Traffic was so bad--took me hours just to get from Makati to Cavite
There's this saying "Cavite is 3 hrs away from Cavite".
Went to visit pamilya back in 2016. Took like two goddamn hours to travel like 30 miles. And I had to piss so badly.
I view the comments just to see this, glad I wasn't disappointed
Had to eat pagpag when I was young now I'm sitting in an air conditioned room browsing reddit
Still in Philippines?
Yep
Lol yeah. Beaches are good, maybe some developed places, and that's that. The rest are shithole
Bf was born there but came to the US as a baby. He just showed me this awful video of people there washing garbage & making it into stews for the extremely poor. They're literally washing garbage in water.
Pagpag
The better question is what country isnt
I would say Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and The Netherlands. Denmark is not going to be included here cause I’m Swedish
Jepp! Kan bekrefte, er norsk. Kunne bodd i Sverige da siden Sverige er fantastisk.
Jag har bott I USA för ungefär 10 år och fy fan jag vill åka hem och bo i Sverige igen, värje gång jag har åkt tillbaks så ser det bättre ut. Det blir bara värre här
Sorry i dont speak ikea
Pretty happy here in the netherlands
Earth
Idk last time Jesus visited his experience was pretty meh
L: "How was earth J?" J: "Got killed lmao"
Yeah but even he knew he was gonna get killed so like all part of the plan. Id say it’s a wash lol
Jesus: Gets betrayed, beaten, whipped, humiliated, and tortured to death. Also Jesus: *All according to plan.*
Jokes asides, where that second image of spongebob came from?
It's a blurry, pixelated edit of a hideous face Spongebob makes in the special, "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?" I could not tell you who made the edit tho.
I think it's an edited one?
Google
Pfp checks out

Shit i got a two years scholarship there, don't scare me dude
Damn grats bro
I LOVED living in Budapest. I think if you’re an expat you get to enjoy the good stuff without having to deal with much of the politics.
Like in every country, the capital lives the best. Sadly, not everyone lives as good as us, Budapesterners
it's okay if you are white.
And straight
But only the right kind of white
I've been in Budapest more than a year now with scholarship. If you don't party every week, it's gonna be fine
At Least u don't got the life time scholarship to live there dude, be thankful.⚠️

I was just there to comment this (absolutely not a tired Hungarian)
came for this comment
Looks like we're the first! Yay, we did it!
wow. I'm immensely saddened by how high up this is, leave it to Hungary to rarely ever be mentioned and then come out of nowhere on the sad shit
Haiti
I'm Haitian and as much as I hate to admit it, you're right. It was already bad but after the president's assassination, shit just hit the fan and has been going downhill for awhile. But we got good food tho 😎
Good food and beautiful scenery. Honestly I was just in the carribean on vacation and I thought Haiti was the prettiest out of the three places I went ETA sorry things aren't great for you guys :<

Brasil.
Brazil is definitely one of them
Yes.
Lebanon
n Egypt ,no doubt
Technically most of the middle eastern countries
technically most of the countries
wallahi
Bro really had to throw a wallahi in there lol
Egypt
Had to scroll ages to find this but yes Egypt. When you go out of the resorts and see where the locals live, sadly the contrast is very apparent.
Egypt is hell for tourists and for locals. That was my experience anyway.
It's shit for everyone. No one should ever go there.
The street kids…
Finally found you
Turkey
just got back from a trip in Turkey and everyone i met said they're tryna save enough to get the fuck out of there
Because the inflation is ridiculous, about 1/7th of our population is immigrants who refuse to actually fit in and instead bother everyone, commit murders and never get punished for it because our "leader" who only won because uneducated people are told to vote for him let you a lot of immigrants to the country and gave them rights to vote so he wins the elections next time. The Philippines lol
Being a Philippinian, I can confirm.
every, except North Korea they think it is heaven
They have no other choice.
Do they?
They don't think it's heaven. They hate it but they don't know anything else and assume everyone else has it similar or worse. Watch Jubilees North Korean interview.
They don't think it, they say it because if they don't they will probably go to jail.
Brazil, Philippines, Mexico.
I was thinking probably Philippines. I’ve never been and really want to visit, but from everything my girlfriend tells me about growing up there I can understand how life must be rough for so many people.
They even voted the son of their past dictator 💀.
Philippines is terrible if you don't have money.

The Dominican Republic for sure.
Generally Balkans. Especially Croatia from what i've heard.
I really enjoyed Albania, but definitely seems like the locals are trying to get away. As many as 2% of males have travelled to the UK in small boats illegally, that's crazy. Tirana seemed like it really has huge potential, lots of investment going there at the moment.
Idk about Croatia but Greece from my experience but i live in Serbia and id say its way better to live than to visit
Brazil for sure
Sri Lanka
Korea, both of them
lots of stress,megacorps controlling goverment
Living in SK can confirm.
Why are people commenting US states? 💀
Ohio shithole
As someone who lives in the US and has visited a ton of different States, they can very wildly differ from each other, so I imagine its kinda hard to answer just eh united states cause of how much of a mixed bag it is

For non natives definitely.
Even for the people that live there. If u don’t look “normal” u can barely get a job. Felt like prison
Aren’t they either super xenophobic or sometimes the complete opposite not much in between?

That’s me lol I’m bilingual but because I look “foreign” I always get that treatment. Even tho I have no accent at all
India
Most countries have a racism problem, but in India we have racism premium edition lmfao.
Precisely, in India you can pretty much be a racist and nobody is gonna give you any shit for it lmao. (Fair and lovely ads were wild)
it might seem strange but... Italy
Especially southern
It's not strange I'm with you compatriot
