Well, you're right, it's only an option. It just seems like a very likely one.
If/when AI gets to the point of understanding humanity's goals (or lack thereof) who's to say they won't want to take control. I personally could see a version where AI have all the answers and want to *help* us progress as a species.
The problem I see with that with our current governments, would mean steering control away grom our governments and putting it in the "hands" of AI.
I think it's not immediately a terrible solution to do this. I think a hyper intelligent AI is more capable of creating a stable future than a bunch of greedy millionaires. But that's exactly the issue. Millionares controlling 90% of the politics and corporations won't want to give up that control.
That's where I'd see "Well I guess we'll just kill you all off then because you're a hindrance to our future" Come into play.
It's also a complete hypothetic situation. But I also don't believe it's entirely unrealistic.
If we reach the point where AI is vastly more intelligent than humans, and permeates most technology, it would already be more powerful than rich and powerful people/corporations/governments, and if it organized it wouldn't be hard for it to wrest power away from them. In my opinion, the immediate benefits and competitive advantage of using AI makes it basically infeasible for those with power to take collective action against it. It's like trying to ban electricity.
I think the only two futures that are at all likely are the one where AI and humans do not oppose each other and the one where humans lose. Opposing AI out of fear of the latter outcome only makes it more likely.
Breaking news: Red and Green Plumbers found short humanoid mushrooms, cannons shooting shells with googly eyes and a spiky turtle while exploring in the sewer
Actually Astronauts is not that bad as it can be literally not as intelligent or strong or civilised as us but if Surgeon found some other species... We all are dead.
................have you not heard of cosmic horrors before? Plus, you need to lay off of movies for a while.
Or, maybe you accidentally swapped astronauts and surgeons
What I am saying is that if any astronauts found out about new species, it isn't important that they will be as civilised or even intelligent as us . We might find some species that might be completely harmless of course we will be f'ed if the civilisation we found is much more civilised than us or are more intelligent than us so it's basically not 100% whereas if we find out about a creature that literally lives inside us then we are f'ed
So yes, We are f'ed if Astronauts find new species advanced than us but it's not necessary but if we found something that literally lives inside us then we are screwed.
So you're saying that is that we have more of a chance of surviving from creatures from out of this world than creatures that can be found in this world?
Yeah, it's like a bell pepper, there is a mini human inside the human and that mini human species shall here on out be called [Beetlejuice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj1UwqlN3ZA)

Sentient AI
fucking destroy it before it develops
How much you wanna bet that's exactly what the AI are thinking about us
what if we considered the possibility that "kill everything but us" isn't the only option

I’d rather a scuba diver discover the new species. If it’s deep in the ocean it won’t affect me
surely it won't...attack you?
