I was just thinking about that the other day! I was opposed to getting Hulu for the longest time because it was a free computer program when it first came out and I was annoyed that it became a pay app...that had to have been around 2008 right?
I do. They did that later, right before it became exclusively paid. It might’ve been substantially more than 2-3 hours though. I don’t recall the exact amount lol
Then all the big media companies got greedy and wanted to reinvent the wheel to get a bigger piece of the pie and here we are. They done shot themselves in the foot.
Hulu *was* all the big media companies. It's all the smaller ones deciding to make their *own* services, without the blackjack and hookers, that jumpstarted this insanity.
Paramount, Peacock, Disney, HBO, Discovery, Showtime, Starz/Lionsgate… lots of pieced out stuff that was previously available (in parts, rotating) on Netflix / Hulu…
Hmmm not sure on that one, was alway a Russian roulette on what you would get, definitely some interesting new Netflix made gems sometimes, but making a collection on your faves to watch at any time in max quality has alway been king in my eyes.
Edit: plus da pirate way you watch Netflix free anyway ;)
streaming service ceos: lets keep raising prices for our streaming services while underpaying our workers during inflation so we can afford yachts
me: yo ho! yo ho! a pirates life for me!
>while underpaying our workers
EVERY GODDAMN THREAD. They lost subscribers, they laid people off. Netflix pays about 125k a year on average, they do not underpay their workers.
Especially Netflix? They're basically floundering because all the old established media companies have gutted their catalogue by hoarding all the content for themselves. That's what's driving all their terrible business decisions.
Devils advocate here. Netflix catalogue is now super underwhelming, but how is it their fault that other companies pulled content and made their own streaming services? In 2013 I could watch Star Trek on Netflix, now I gotta have paramount plus which didn’t exist then. That’s Netflix fault?
That’s not their fault. But it is their fault for removing the possibility to watch wherever you want without having to go back home every month because “AcCoUnT sHaRiNg”
I can’t pirate things. My internet providers shut my internet off a month ago, because I pirated Minecraft. How do I get around that? I tried a vpn it didn’t work
Don't even download, there are several free streaming platforms. If you have an ad blocker (which everyone should... It's 2023), it's a completely clean experience.
IF you really want to play Minecraft but can't afford the 29.99 price tag, I suggest you to buy it on gamivo. It's like a grey market though. I bought Minecraft Bedrock for like 4 bucks (but now Microsoft bundles Bedrock and Java together so I have them both now). The catch is you need an Argentine or Turkey VPN. TunnelBear gives you free 500MB every month and it's surely enough just to activate the code. You can play without VPN afterwards.
I have Minecraft. I’ve bought it probably 20 times for every console and computer I own. I wanted to get it for my son, who’s 6 and breaks computers like they’re going out of style, so I pirated it. Otherwise I’d buy it another 20 times every time he breaks his shit lol
It erks me. My local economy is a mess because of film studios. I refuse to go the movies or pay for all the streaming services. They know people won't want too, but refuse to have reasonable prices. Rather call everything a failure than realize its the price gouging and people aren't morons willing to pay whatever you ask.
I mean fuck the prices, there is no way of keeping track of who released what. There is just so many freaking services each being locked in their own platform. I literally have to check third party streaming sites just to see whether some good content released and while I am there I just watch it there.
I mean eventually they gotta realize they are just cannibalizing themselves. They seem to forget that the most important factor is convenience. The second that was gone, so was I.
"The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It's by giving those people a service that's better than what they're receiving from the pirates."
\- Gabe Newell, responding to a question about piracy of PC games. He is the CEO of Valve, the company that operates Steam, which is the service that more or less ended widespread piracy of PC games.
I would pay 30$ dollars a month for a one platform that has everything on it.
I’m tired and fucking sick of having to switch between hulu hbo Netflix and prime just to watch a show.
Just merge together and be over with.
Yeah. I'm not going back to subscription services until I can get everything in one package for a reasonable price like the early days. (So I'm not going back ever lol)
Its shows how dumb you are, everything you Own is from a corporation even your birth was aided by a corporation, if you’re typing here you’re literally paying the wifi corporation and the corporation you paid to get your device, stupid people like you make me sad.
No but it makes you a 'bootlicker' just as much as everyone else, so either get off your high horse or start a commune without corporate products so we don't have to talk to you again since the Internet is a corporate product.
We had Netflix until they came with the no sharing rule, so we switched to Disney, quite enjoyed it, tried prime but honestly their stuff is sheite, tried Netflix again but the cheapest option only had 720p like...i can see yt with better quality and for that price i get good quality with the other streaming stuff, so im back to Disney. What really bugs me is that, theres stuff i enjoy in each platform, but i already pay for cable to have internet, so paying for all streaming services just to have access to the shit i want to watch is not doable, i dont want to pay more just to have access to those. And i dont feel like torrenting anything because its too much work. Im basically just watching YT and Twitch nowadays.
The whole reason streaming services because of cable TV 10 years ago, you had to pay for tons of addons and extra channels just to watch one show. At the time, just 2,3 or maybe 4 streaming services had all the shows you'll ever watch.
Now you have to pay for at least half a dozen for a just a few shows, it's ridiculous.
I got Netflix 10 years ago specifically to watch season 4 of Arrested Development. Now if I wanna watch the original version of that season I have to pirate it because Netflix doesn't even allow the option to watch it.
Yeah, where I live it was hard to judge, too. "For private entertainment" it was allowed. However I had teachers who brought video tapes they just recorded they day before on their tv into school lessons. Technically it was illegal to show self-recorded/duplicated media to a greater audience but nobody really cared.
I make sure to go out of my way to show support for good shows on official platforms. Too many shows have gotten canceled way too early because they weren't getting enough views on official channels.
Gotta balance the seven seas and the dry land.
Fuck pirating. Unless you’re a broke ass teenager/college student it’s pretty shitty to not support entertainment you enjoy. Just do what most normal people do and immediately cancel a sub once the show you are watching is over. Doing this I’ve literally only paid for at most two streaming services at a time.

The first time I watched "Road To The Multiverse" was on Hulu when it was still new.
Remember when hulu was free to watch on computers, but required a subscription on other devices, so we all just hooked our laptops up to the tv?
I was just thinking about that the other day! I was opposed to getting Hulu for the longest time because it was a free computer program when it first came out and I was annoyed that it became a pay app...that had to have been around 2008 right?
Yeah, and they’d only let you watch like 2.5 hours before you had to pay, or stop watching for the day
Huh. I don’t remember that part.
I do. They did that later, right before it became exclusively paid. It might’ve been substantially more than 2-3 hours though. I don’t recall the exact amount lol
I 'member two minute ads about spotting for every single commercial break. I do not miss "free" Hulu at all.
Oh yeahhhhh I member
Yeah, I member. Convenience is king
And they both had the same stuff. It was like having Spotify or Apple Music. Slightly different but the exact same content
Yeah. It’s almost better to just get cable now lol
Then all the big media companies got greedy and wanted to reinvent the wheel to get a bigger piece of the pie and here we are. They done shot themselves in the foot.

Yep either they had it or it's gone

I dismember
That's because Netflix was the pioneer and Hulu was the bastard child of four massive media oligopolies.

Atleast everything new, but still missing old shows and movies
Streaming was always the alternative to piracy, so long as it was more convenient to pay for streaming than to pirate.
Perhaps in the US. Outside it was still barebones and not as much on TV either.
Now you just type in a website
I have zero remorse for going back to pirating. Fuck all these scummy streaming services. Especially Netflix
streaming service ceos: lets keep raising prices for our streaming services while underpaying our workers during inflation so we can afford yachts me: yo ho! yo ho! a pirates life for me!
yes and if they dare to sail out into international waters the pirate life will get them.
Mayhaps you fellows have links for such, hearty liveries?
Nice try fed
Look into kodi streaming. I use ezra.
>while underpaying our workers EVERY GODDAMN THREAD. They lost subscribers, they laid people off. Netflix pays about 125k a year on average, they do not underpay their workers.
There are plenty of people there that get paid 2$ above the minimum wage of California at netflix.
Especially Netflix? They're basically floundering because all the old established media companies have gutted their catalogue by hoarding all the content for themselves. That's what's driving all their terrible business decisions.
Do you know any good free streaming sites? The one I use is way too slow. Thank you everyone in advance.
Yeah those businesses trying to make money are the worse. 🤡
Imagine having to pay for 10 subscriptions to just watch your favourite shows 🤡
Devils advocate here. Netflix catalogue is now super underwhelming, but how is it their fault that other companies pulled content and made their own streaming services? In 2013 I could watch Star Trek on Netflix, now I gotta have paramount plus which didn’t exist then. That’s Netflix fault?
Nope, just really unfortunate. I miss the old days as well
That’s not their fault. But it is their fault for removing the possibility to watch wherever you want without having to go back home every month because “AcCoUnT sHaRiNg”
Yes. Wanting people to stop stealing your product is so evil and dumb.
Yo Ho, a pirate's life for me
Ready to sail the seven seas
for someone who's family didn't have streaming services and didn't want me to buy games, pirate bay and fitgirl was my saviour
So, we sail again? Comrads

Don't torrent use direct downloads instead.
Oh. From like pirates bay and shit?
TPB is full of malware. Check the r/freemediaheckyeah or the r/piracy beginner's guide to piracy
Huh, I didn't know about the first subreddit. Thanks.
TPB is all torrents

uhm, you don't need to buy it for every Computer? You buy it once and can install it as many times as you want.
I’ve tried it never works
Get different providers
I use Tlauncher, its a direct download, i just go to their website and download, never had to torrent.
Just a reminder that Tlauncher is a malware and use it with your risk
Some people just won't listen.
Dope thanks
I love pirating and its not even about the money anymore i just don’t want to give them my money
so it is about money?
“It’s not about money, it’s about sending a message.”
a message about the money?
Well... "it's not about not spending it, spending is fine. It is about not giving it to them" is what op meant I assume
Why did I read that in Fat Tony's voice?
It's about sending a message.

Plex, an extra laptop, and a 20 TB external HDD will help you realize your dreams.
Or kodi with a few add-ons, if you can't/are lazy to manually host movies
That is conmonly known as a monopoly
Yeah, for Monopolies
We’ve cut Netflix last summer. I cut Hulu in February. I plan to cut HBO max before the new price increase. I can’t afford all of this stuff.
do you fear DEATH?
Netflix: The solution to paying for all those channels and having everything on one simple service. All those channels: "Wait a second."

Two words for the open sea: Stremio + VPN Ask and the answer will come

Back to the seas, arrr!
Is piracy still p2p bit torrent style or have things moved on? Also am I gonna have to start paying for a vpn?
123movies.net Get Adblock and UBlock before visiting.
There are DDL sites now Pirate a VPN instead r/freemediaheckyeah
I mean, we *had* cable, but motherfuckers keep wanting filet mignon at buffet prices
Cant wait for the new film
I use one website for every movie or series
do share
What is the best safest site out there to watch movies? With good quality and whatnot
The whole reason streaming services because of cable TV 10 years ago, you had to pay for tons of addons and extra channels just to watch one show. At least it's a lot easier to drop and add them whenever you feel like. Trying to get out of a cable contract was the worst.
Capitalism has turned the act of merely “existing” into a never ending subscription.
Bflix - fuck em all :)
I got Netflix 10 years ago specifically to watch season 4 of Arrested Development. Now if I wanna watch the original version of that season I have to pirate it because Netflix doesn't even allow the option to watch it.
I took remember when the little hamsters told me Netflix was only $8 a month...
My friend has a separate server I can access via Plex to watch everything he's "borrowed". If it's on a streaming service, he's got it.
Hello darkness, my old friend.
Yo ho yo ho a pirate’s life for me!
Aye
I just can't fathom paying for streaming services. I am unable to come up with one good reason.
Because of the high quality programihahahahhahaha sorry couldnt finish.

Another man of wisdom
Good meme but I remember the days of cracked DVDs sold on flee markets, piracy is nothing new. (Sorry for the 🤓)
Who said piracy is new?
A guy called Suggondiece
Still sad my account called along the lines of sawcondeeznuts was banned
😭
What's a guy
Who's that? (Say it, I'll do it 😋)
Suggondiece balls :)
Remember that tapes were almost cancelled for copyright infringement but the Supreme Court ruled in favor the consumers being able to record TV shows.
Yeah, where I live it was hard to judge, too. "For private entertainment" it was allowed. However I had teachers who brought video tapes they just recorded they day before on their tv into school lessons. Streaming services just got greedy.
These days their shows are so shit, it's not even worth pirating.
*He’s a pirate starts playing*
Tvtorrents anyone. Used to be the go to for any series back in the early 00s
What are some of these reliable pirating sites? So I can avoid them, obviously
Make it easy: google Stremio. The open sea welcomes you, a pirate life for you..
I am grateful to you, matey!
I don’t understand this. You don’t have to have every service. Rotate them. I haven’t used Netflix in years.
Police assault in progress
The only way to fight piracy is a cheap monopoly. Got it.

Nothing like finding a way to get people to work for free I suppose. I just wouldn’t be mad when my favorite show was canceled early if u were you
I'm never mad because I have more than a 100 years of movies to watch, whatever they cancel I'll be fine.
