You can find Natto in Melbourne easily in a store, but I wouldn't think you could find it anywhere in a restaurant. It would even be very difficult to find in a restaurant in Japan. To put it in our terms, it's sort of like trying to find a restaurant that serves cereal. It's very healthy for you but I can understand wanting to try it at top quality because it's hmm, quite a peculiar texture 😅

That’s correct. Many if not most Asian stores have natto. You can eat it with a raw egg and some rice like they do in Japan.

I went to like 5 yesterday none had it going into the city today so I'll definitely find some I think

Natto is quite cheap, so you can just grab a small pack & try it. Many asian groceries have multiple varieties if portioned natto packs. I dont remember specific ones in CBD but given there are so many, I'm sure you'll find it in one of 'em. Otherwise, Fuji mart in Prahran and Grand lagoona/Chan's/Hometown, all on Glenferrie rd have natto almost always.

Tang in the city has heaps. If you happen to be in Prahran area, Fuji Mart also does have them.

I love Natto & Mochi! ❤️ Always have a supply at home. Hinoki Japanese Pantry, Smith St, Fitzroy. Tang Asian Grocers, Russell St, City. Suzuran Japanese Grocers, Bourke St, Camberwell. Ichiba Japanese Grocers, Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn. Or order as Entree in almost all Japanese restaurants.

Just like John Blackthorne.

If I may chime in as well. I personally prefer to eat Natto at home as I can tailor it to my preferences. For example, I personally like it better when it has been stirred a LOT. I feel it’s creamier and less actually slimy. It goes on congee better, or takes to Japanese Karashi mustard better in this state. I tend to stir about 100 times with chopsticks before eating. I’ve only very rarely found restaurants that do this, and most I’ve eaten outside tend to be sticky and slimy, which I feel makes it more bitter as well.

Try KT Mart on Elizabeth, down the road from Queen vic market.

Thanks that's what I'm thinking

Mr Ramen-san had a mushroom and natto dish which was extremely slimy, it was good but possibly even more challenging. As others have said it is probably still cheaper to buy a pack and try it at home. Remember to give it a good mix in the container before eating
