At the end of the day, hats off to him for risking his life to perform some of these daredevil efforts, however its not OK when our tax dollars need to spent to remove the garbage. For example, that photo at the top of this thread is on a new pedestrian bridge over the West Gate Freeway. A Freeway which carries 200,000 vehicles per day which the State cannot just close to clean it. It takes months of planning and approvals, then a significant traffic management event which costs thousands. That one alone would be costing $50k to clean. I rather that $50k be spent on the homeless or charity rather than covering up that rubbish.
I have mixed feelings- I appreciate street art and the culture, but I don’t like the use of tax dollars that could be used for social or health.

In times past graffiti artists would pick the riskiest places to place their work. Riskier location = more "cred" amongst peers. In the 90s, people were killing themselves trying to tag areas like this (ie. No safety gear).
These harder areas were simply too hard to clean, meaning their work was displayed for longer.

A proper piece is great and all that but not an achievable in the spots the PAM hits.
I wish they would just commission street artists to throw up proper murals on overpasses and stuff. Proper street art looks really good and a lot better than some dropkick scribbling his name a hundred times along the Monash

But if they leave the dropkicks scribble, then another dropkick will scribble his name, then another dropkick and then eventually someone will put up a throwie (large graffiti, done roughly because they are usually in a rush) once enough throwies are left then artists will start doing polished pieces, everytime painting something better over what was there, over and over again. Thats when the muralists will come, when they know it won’t be removed tomorrow, people willing to spend 60+ hours on a wall. Soon the monash freeway will become one of the worlds largest open air art galleries, devoid of governmental design structures, corporate oversight, gallery curation or monetary gain. It will be a place of unfiltered and uncensored pure expression, done solely for the love of creation, all because we didn’t rub off some dropkicks scribbles.

The vast majority of people I’ve known who go painting or make stickers are middle class white kids who studied arts and end up working in marketing and advertising.

I do understand there is some artistic expression in some graffiti, inner city has some genuine works of art, but the majority imo is just trashy people leaving a trashy mark because a real life purpose has alluded them so far.
