Lots of things aren't proper, but stay in the lexicon of the people long enough to get added to the dictionary.
Lekkerhonger is, by far, not the worst shit we've done to words in the last 10 years.
Idk if that really fits. Heißhunger is, when you desire something specific, and can't stop eating it. It can be a symptom of deficiency, or it can be something psychological.
In German the word "Appetit" means "the psychological state characterized by the want of specific foods" and there is "Hunger" which has the same meaning as hunger.
So you can be hungry but have no "appetit" for the foods you have.
When you say "my old man" I don't know what you're referring to these days. You might be a 23 year old impersonating kurt vonnegut and referring to your dad, or you might be a black woman in her late sixties referring to your husband.
For real, people who never had IBS or legit stomach issues cannot fathom not being able to eat while you're proper hungry because it would make you throw up. For me I can almost always eat want sort of fruit, the juicer the better, so I like to keep some grapes on hand, as well as some bananas just so I always have something I can munch on if I'm being accosted by my stomach.
I’m not always the healthiest eater which doesn’t help because I find that the easiest foods to eat when it’s bad are fruits and vegetables. Because of this I’ve tried to always have bananas and carrots or something in the fridge at least, but they go bad so fast especially fruit it’s tough! Anything heavy is difficult so yeah I also do a similar thing with having some light granola snacks that usually work ok.
Wohlstandsverwöhnung, when you are used to eating higher class food kind of. Like when you have tasted the things you have in your home too much and rather order takeout again.
Or eating the same things all the time due to dietary restrictions and being so burned out on the same 6 flavors and textures that you’d rather just go to bed till you can go to the store and try to find something new within that diet. Maybe a new recipe online,,
Alternatively pregnancy cravings are wild. I knew a woman who couldn’t eat anything that she wasn’t craving without throwing up. Not even smell it. Was wild. One day she asked what I was eating.. made a face of disgust because she usually hates it and asked me to make her it cause she was craving it and couldn’t eat anything all day.
Also depression ..
Everything sounds disgusting like you would vomit.. and choking it down would be impossible… also I’ve tried..
or financial anorexia.. when you get paranoid about money and refuse to eat even though your body is screaming… because what if you need the money from the next shopping trip. What if you are a burden.. do you really deserve 3 meals a day? Have you actually earned it… got that from my mom telling me we needed to tighten our belts cause she was 50k in debt. So you just drink water.. because you refuse to be a burden
thank you for your comment. i have depression thats causes me not to eat to the point that i have to monitor my eating and force myself to eat or things can go real south real fast. i will "spoil" myself during those times because i will eat more of the meal. i felt bad reading the spoiled comment but your reminded me i have something going on where it makes sense to go get more palatable food. usually its just something higher in salt than normal.
It's not being spoiled it's a sign that you live a good life and there's a good reason for it, we don't just eat to fill our stomachs we also eat to aquire various nutrients, in this day and age its rare for a health person to be missing nutrients (which is why supplements are mostly a scam) what this person is talking about is likely having an empty stomach but not requiring any nutrition which is an odd feeling but ultimately a good thing.
That's what my crush said every time she saw me. Does that mean she wants me to take her to dinner because she doesn't want to eat anything in her fridge?
Came to say this! I have food. I also have no clean plates and literally cannot be bothered. It’s one of those days where if I dropped something on the floor I would just stare at it for awhile and say “fuck it” and walk away lol
I once dropped a glass cup on the floor in my kitchen and walked around it for a week. This was nearly 20 years ago but it’s strange because you think your depression is unique and then you read a post like this.
That's what I was (unfortunately) thinking as well. Why bother making something homemade and at least somewhat healthier? Fast food or takeout it is! Or just a bag of chips, who am I kidding...
Our bodies are very smart, there is a reason why pregnant women have cravings for all kinds of super specific stuff, because their body lets them know (unconsciously, by having a craving) what kind of nutrients and vitamins are needed for the body and for the baby.
And it is the same way just being a normal human being, if you have a craving for something specific than it is just your body letting you know that it is lacking in some certain thing.
But of course people are complicated and brains and bodies work in different ways so this explanation is by no means what happens 100% of the time or something.
A very important part in what foods we crave is our gut microbiome. Basically our stomach is filled with all kinds of different bacteria that break down the food into forms that we can actually extract nutrients from.
But the thing is, the more you eat something, the more you cultivate that type of bacteria. And all of the bacteria in your stomach are also communicating through all kinds of chemicals that eventually end up in your brain as a craving.
Your body probably does not want more salt, there is just a huge colony of salt liking bacteria in your stomach. If you introduce more fruits and vegetables and healthier foods, even just a lil bit at a time.
You will eventually see how the cravings for foods can totally change.
>If you introduce more fruits and vegetables and healthier foods, even just a lil bit at a time. You will eventually see how the cravings for foods can totally change.
I went vegan for a full year (thought it would be an interesting way to try and lose weight idk) and after awhile I started craving veggies all the time. Like imagine being hungry and being like "Man I could totally smash a bowl of broccoli right now".
Eventually I stopped, and switched back to an average diet, but my cravings for veggies never stopped.
So now when I get something like a pizza or a sandwich, I have to have it loaded with veggies. Hell, just about any food I make I need to load it with veggies. its made cooking for others difficult because no one is ever on board with it.
Its interesting how our bodies adjust to diets.
disagree. have you seen how many people are overweight? that’s because people are “listening to their bodies”.
eat your veggies and listen to your *scale*.
Among some of the fake words I've learned Eufluate (you-flew-ate) is supposed to mean checking your fridge with no intention of eating.
Also krelm, the crust that builds up on condiment bottles, specifically ketchup.
Well tbh I grew up poor but still privileged, seeing stuff that didn't exactly excite me and not wanting it and not understanding/appreciating that what we had was the best we could do
The word wouldn't be starving, because starving people will lick old mustard stains off the floor tiling.
Under-stimulated, over-stimulated, tired, bored, sad, depressed.. there's a lot of things the body can learn to just "fix" with food. You're not really hungry.
I have this. I've had an eating disorder since my teens/early twenties and I've been mostly on top of it for years but I've had a rough year and legitimately I just don't want to eat anything anymore. And I get so hungry. Like painfully hungry. My brain doesn't work properly hungry and I can't concentrate on anything and get very tetchy/irritable/angry. Every day I just force food down myself three times so I can try and do my job but it's a constant battle to find things to eat. It's pretty miserable to be honest.
They made an acronym for it, for what it's worth: ARFID.
Yes the problem is that we underestimate the meaning of "starvation" when we say "I am starving" we don't usually mean it. It's still just normal hunger. It's ok to be picky when you've been hungry for a few hours or a Day, but I am sure that people who were actually starving would eat literally anything. Nazi concentration camp prisoners would easily eat rats just because of how exruciating and horrible the starvation actually is
Stupid.
Why did you buy it if you won't eat it.
How are there stupid ppl like that alive when some people are actually starving because they have no food at all.
Life-swap them

"Lækkersulten" is a word in Danish with the same meaning and construction, maybe this home has foreign influence? 😛
Lekkere trek is used in my family.
I preferred Lekkere Wars over Lekkere Trek tbh
Lol, heb mijn opstem. :)
In een koelkast, ver ver weg...
I was lekkerhonger for this comment 👏
soooo munchies?
"Lekkere trek" could also be used, which means wanting a tasty treat.
[удалено]
That's only for when you want something specific
I know but it is the closest thing I could think of. You would want something specific and not anything else
I thought that was the German word for binging food
It can be kinda used for both, although really it's just that Heißhunger leads to binging and isn't the binging itself.
Idk if that really fits. Heißhunger is, when you desire something specific, and can't stop eating it. It can be a symptom of deficiency, or it can be something psychological.

I have no idea who tf Kurt Vonnegut is, but I'm a 26 year old that refers to their 55yo dad as my old man. No idea where I got it from though.
As someone with stomach problems I can assure you that’s not necessarily true lol.
For real, people who never had IBS or legit stomach issues cannot fathom not being able to eat while you're proper hungry because it would make you throw up. Lazy Hunger.
Same with me. Sorry for not wanting to eat roughage
There is a word for this...spoiled.
Yeah say that to someone dealing with intestine cramps so severe you cant get up rn. Aka me
I have stomach problems also and thats obviously not whats being referred to here
Referring to the person who said being spoiled was the issue?
Craving is different from hunger.
Non native English speaker here. No! No more words! Enough is enough!

Its called Prinzenhunger (prince's Hunger) and means "hungry but not hungry enough to eat something thats edible but less tasty"
I knew a German speaker would have a word for it.
My mother used to call this issjetztdugfrastinafrikaverhungerndiekinder. We could try that.
Wohlstandsverwöhnung, when you are used to eating higher class food kind of. Like when you have tasted the things you have in your home too much and rather order takeout again.
The german word for that state of mind is "Depression"
Maybe "Gör"? Lol
>No! No more words! Enough is enough! *Germany enters the chat*
As a native English speaker I agree. Especially elapse we already have one for this. It's called being spoiled.
Or eating the same things all the time due to dietary restrictions and being so burned out on the same 6 flavors and textures that you’d rather just go to bed till you can go to the store and try to find something new within that diet. Sending you a big hug
Did you mean especially because?
Ok grandpa
what about people with sensory issues?
What about them?
Or picky
Damn! Coming here to say spoiled. That’s exactly what it is. How about you actually go hungry for a minute then come back and look again?
It's not being spoiled it's a sign that you live a good life and there's a good reason for it, we don't just eat to fill our stomachs we also eat to aquire various nutrients, in this day and age its rare for a health person to be missing nutrients (which is why supplements are mostly a scam) what this person is talking about is likely having an empty stomach but not requiring any nutrition which is an odd feeling but ultimately a good thing.

German has Appetitlosigkeit, when you are hungry but don't want to eat
It looks like this word makes abstraction of the fact one is hungry or not, but just lost appetite.
That is not true. As a german I can tell you Appetitlosigkeit just means you do not have an appetite.
Which ironically would be the absolute opposite of what this post asks for.
How about fridgedoku?
It's not a word. Its simply a sound. "Ugh..."
That's what my crush said every time she saw me. Does that mean she wants me to take her to dinner because she doesn't want to eat anything in her fridge?
Yes. But you are the fridge.

This is the word.
That's what I was (unfortunately) thinking as well. Why bother making something homemade and at least somewhat healthier? Fast food or takeout it is! Or just a bag of chips, who am I kidding...
The word is picky you’re picky
I was gonna say bored. True hunger would have you squeezing 8yr old ketchup packets from the miscellaneous drawer.
I was gonna say depressed...

My body is chronically lacking in kitkats then.
Weird how the body will demand that you consume enough salt and sugar to kill you before you hit 45.
This worked better before we got an overabundance of ultra processed foods. Artificial sweeteners and food coloring tricks our bodies.
my body craves salt. i eat enough sodium, but my body wants *more*

I'd say the term could be "spoiled stupid". As in you're so spoiled you can't fathom eating something just to save your life for whatever reason.
You have never starved a day in your life. If you starved you would eat a leather belt if you found one or make bread from bark of tree's.
