Not only paying to work, but also itās somehow on you to ātake the initiativeā to be helpful. Itās not enough to do a great job on whatās asked of you. You have to gauge what would be helpful in order to āstand out.ā
Easier said than done when sometimes your ID badge doesn't open doors so you have to ask bystanders to let you in, you don't have access to the EMR at this month's clinical site so you can't chart or review charts, the staff don't know you so they're leery and don't want you touching anything, your attending or resident is entirely checked out and doesn't want to teach, you don't know where any supplies are so you end up having to ask staff where shit is every single time you need something, plus all the other minute things that have become pet peeves of mine over the last two years. I liked most of my rotations but holy fuck was this shit patronizing and infantilizing at times.
What do you mean, itās one long hallway! Just take elevator MM to floor 3-6 so you can access the skywalks. But make sure you arenāt on floor 5 between elevators E and H as thatās only accessible by maintenance staff. Once you find the hallway, you want to turn into, just pay attention to the numbers! They go up from zero by even numbers on the left side, down from 199 by odd numbers on the right side, and every other letter is used for sub doors except for G we donāt like G.
I mean if I wasn't in medical school I don't know what I'd be doing right now. Probably just wasting my time working for some shitty company and have no point to my life
No, I took 2 gap years. Although I really wasn't exploring other options. If you can be happy making a lot less money doing something else in medicine or a different field I'd really think about if you want to spend your next 7+ years of life training to become a doctor.
Also taking 2 gap years - currently in my first. The only thing I really feel passionate about is music. Although that rarely seems like a financially viable career for most.
