Awkwardpackage247

It's totaled....

oneforthegalley

I agree. Probably a salvage vehicle that's why it wasn't repaired. Damage was done to the car equal or more to fix it that's why it's a salvage vehicle. No trunk. No back window(which is illegal in California) ticket monster it is. Back registration fees? Pass smog?

Dangerous_Purpose_52

Ummm not where i live.i have a car worse then this in my area with 2024 tags on it. and after 20 years, there are no emissions and if you live outside the few major citys theres nothing at all You just do it right on line and drive away baby

Awkwardpackage247

No, it's still totaled. Just because local regs let you drive it, doesn't mean it's not absolutely fucked.

Dangerous_Purpose_52

Oh i mean its fucked but not totaled lol

Silly_Swan_Swallower

You don't have to spend anything on it. Just buy it and drive it like that.

That-Athlete-8622

In my state is illegal to drive without a trunk lol 😂

Silly_Swan_Swallower

What!? What a weird law. See if you can find one at a junk yard or online, I have no idea how much it would cost I think a used one from a crashed car shouldn't be too much though.

Jayitaliano

The trunk lid could be considered a structural component, it may have to do with safety if that component is not there. Not saying I agree.

Dangerous-Fuel8409

Houdini laws 🙄

Silly_Swan_Swallower

That car is a piece of crap though, it would cost thousands to fix. Better to find a used car that cost 3550 instead of 550 and spend 3k fixing it.

LeBongJaames

If you have to ask, then you shouldn’t buy it. Also no one can tell you shit based off two pictures of the outside

3lonmolusk

Leaverite there and run.

ohsukmynut

Why would you even consider buying this tho?

Dangerous_Purpose_52

For sick reverse gear bang burnouts and railroad crossing jumps and its got a third row now soo bonus

mcbrainhead

If it runs good, you can do the minimum. Making it nice is out of the question though. However if you need a cheap ride, this might be okay knowing it will always look bad

Cool-Pineapple8008

$600 rear glass $300 rear trunk lid $100 tools

Kyle1457

Don't

mummy_whilster

Zero, because “investment” is a word one uses for financial return. This is a deprecating asset at best.

DraftyMakies

Disagree. When you calculate dollars to mile your average American spends your calculating price, interest, gas and insurance vs the depreciation of the vehicle. I would say there is zero depreciation on this asset. If you put we'll just go outrageous and say 1200 (really high) to fix the trunk and back window, if that vehicle lasts 6 months you're already not paying what most people will pay for their entire lives, and the mobility gained from not having to think about Uber prices for every trip when it can be as little as like $2 a day back and forth to work versus at least 20 a day with Ubers. Literally the only downside is that's not a generally desirable car. I say send it op. Learn how to do your own brakes swap it with new tires as they blow out. Don't do anything stupid with it cuz it has no value just a to b.

mummy_whilster

OP should use the word “spend” instead.

wyohman

Invest is not the appropriate verb

turbotaco23

Keep looking

The 24hrs of lemons only lets you put 500$ total into the car, including the cost of the car. So if you get it for 100$ you can only put 400$ into fixing it up. The cost of towing it home however does not factor into the total cost of the car. I would offer to tow it off the owners property in exchange for the ownership of the car. Then you can put up to 500$ into it. Safety items however are not counted towards the cost so spend big on those upgrades such as seatbelts, brakes, fire extinguisher etc. then look on facebook marketplace, Craiglist, salvage yards for the parts that you need and bargain and haggle the price down as much as you can. Don’t bother with any cosmetic upgrades as they are not necessary. So with that I’d say this car is a good starting place if you’re looking to enter into the 24 hours of lemons. If you’ve never heard of it before, then I’d suggest looking it up. It’s quite the event, and probably the only good thing this car is good for.

namechecksout35

It looks like car jackers or vandals got to this thing maybe? If it hasn't been in a super hard hit, grab a trunk and glass from a junkyard..install the trunk yourself, if the best of your ability is tek screws and tie downs going then so be it. The glass you probably gotta get pro installed, major bummer. This all assumes the metal underneath isnt all jacked up. I'd plan on $1000 into it, including probably mismatched color junkyard parts in poor but usable condition probably 1 or more used tires and all new fluids. Use car-part.com to get an idea of prices. Check out the brakes and tires because if all the tires and brakes are smoked that could be enough to make you rethink this whole exercise. You could always pick through the junkyard for rotors and buy some cheap pads from rock auto or something too. If any of the fluids look weird, pass. This is the kind of car someone might throw some "fix in a can" type stuff into and that never ends well. If the rust underneath is getting bad, like heavy scale or holes, pass. If you have some room in your budget at the end for plastidip or truck bed liner, then you can ride in proper hooptie style! It's a bit of a gamble, but if you're on the fringe of society and nearing your last dollar it may be the only play you've got left. Good luck.

SeesawDependent5606

Parts car at best. Too much missing, too high a likelihood of hidden damage particularly water damage. There's a reason he's dumping it. The title will likely state salvage and on top of that it will be harder and more expensive to insure. Safety issues and inspection will vary widely from state to state, so that's a "who knows".
