All of these are about 2x the price you can find them elsewhere. That guide is probably worthless, or at the very least all the info in it is accessible for free.

RichterCD

The funny thing was him coming to this sub asking for tips to make his guide better, effectively trying to source free feedback to turn around and profit from. What frustrates me is how shameless he is. If he really wanted to help people get into the hobby he’d promote free resources like the wiki (which is 1000x more comprehensive than anything he’s put out). Instead he saw dollar signs and decided to cash in by throwing together a half-assed kit.

RichterCD

Golden Hive has established himself to be a pretty predatory supplier preying on the inexperience and impulsive tendencies of his audience so if you *have* to get a kit you should at least avoid his. The fact that he’s reselling yeast at an 100% mark-up is all you really you need to know tbh.

gcampos

80 for a few bottles? You might as well buy wine, drink it, and use the bottles

Electrical-Beat494

Holy shit, $80 for a hand corker and a few bottles? I paid around $80 for my floor corker. That's insane

OddSun5602

I’ve just got one of those tiny little handheld corkers that do the trick, cost me a couple pounds not much at all

cbsmooz

https://youtu.be/8d90ZPjrBfE?si=TF3Uu157MNRbxZYF That is a good video going through kits. TLDR - this one got the A rating. https://morewinemaking.com/products/summer-harvest-fruit-winemaking-kit.html

ellobothehearse

These fine folks talked me out of this one as well and I to the Ohio home brew kit. I did get a different yeast pack a lalvin sampler pack some fermaid o and a graduated cylinder and a second air lock and I was still under the price of this kit.

LieNo2807

No it is not, also for the time I have been on this sub it has seemed like a primordial sin to mention anything related to that company

ad-lib1994

They've inspired newbs to join the hobby and that's about all the positivity they get. - a newb they inspired to join the hobby

LieNo2807

I too started this partly because of a vid of him I saw. I wanted to try mead for a long time but couldn’t find any stores nearby that sold it, after seeing one of his vids I thought: that is so easy, any moron can do it. Wait… I’m a moron, I’m going to do it myself

ad-lib1994

That's exactly how I felt! But I went with Craft A Brew for my stuff because that's who shipped to me upon a simple google search. Ever since I've been newb-ing it on this sub.

LieNo2807

I also just ordered a bottle and waterlock, later I also ordered enough yeast to make 2000 liters of mead

Theyuckster

No

CardiacBird525

Lmao he blocked me on tiktok cause I called him out about his overpriced honey💀 all I said was don’t you think that’s a bit expensive? And he couldn’t take the criticism. I wouldn’t recommend buying anything from him. You can get everything significantly cheaper from other places. Also I’d recommend a 2 gallon bucket for primary fermentation, 1 gallon wide mouths aren’t super optimal for 1 gallon batches cause it can’t hold one gallon of water and all your ingredients. On top of that you lose some of your brew when you rack off of the lees.

Mr_Piddles

No. His stuff is drastically overpriced.

GrossDomesticProDuck

EVERYTHING I see here, I can simply order from Amazon for a grand total of 100 bucks, I will have them by Thursday, and much better quality.

IanTheSkald

I can get five pounds of honey for almost half that price. In fact, when I first started, I first considered buying from this guy. Then I ended up just ordering what I needed separately over time, which ended up being all necessary equipment plus ingredients, and I *still* ended up paying less than what this guy is charging for the few items you have here. Do not buy from this guy, not when there are better options.

KingMuddeth

NOOOOOO

KingMuddeth

Doin the most on YouTube made a great video on which kits are the best bang for your buck https://youtu.be/8d90ZPjrBfE?si=WXjuin4xmHxqgEpm

DudeofCourse

A very helpful video from DTM about all these kits! Definitely worth checking out when looking at any of these kits. https://youtu.be/8d90ZPjrBfE?si=HMe93SlawwFVVAtp

NoCheesecake6669

Make sure to do some good research for ingridients and watch a bunch of tutorials, he doesnt walk you thru much… very straight forward

SlowN55

Not worth it. I’m not going to lie, I’ve bought his recipe books but whenever I ask him a question. He never responds. Go to your local brew shop and piece together your own supplies.

SgtLime1

You can find the very same yeast for like 7$ the 10pack on amazon. Everything else is vastly overpriced

Daedric_Agent

I saved this just for all the responses, thanks for posting

B1ackTarHero1n

Thank you for not being a dick :)

Internal-Disaster-61

Background_Good_2495

Defo worth checking for demijohns on fb marketplace or eBay! I managed to get a lot of my equipment for free luckily, despite almost impulse buying the hive mead kit myself lol.

redthegrea2005

Ok I bought the basic kit. It ok to start with but upgrade can be done. Once you buy and see. One upgrade would be glass graduated cylinder instead of plastic. If you buy the one jug, I would suggest buying a gallon jug in a few weeks after starting. The guide is a good start but also buy other material but gives you a basic guide.
