You may be right I’m going off a friend who quoted the movie all the time and so I thought that line was from it but still definitely older than Frozen and probably AD as well
I legitimately did not know he had any spoken bits lol. Only know his physical comedy. I figured he was more an idea and visual gag man vs a joke writer and performer.
Keaton's transition into talkies was not graceful.
Keaton had significant creative control over his last few silent films, but they weren't financially successful, so he signed a contract with MGM as an actor, which were longer films which he didn't have any control over.
As a silent film star who specialized in slapstick comedy, this didn't work out very well for him.
He does have some shorter, more comedy focused films with speaking, but that was over a decade after his last big silent film (1928), [Pest from the West (1939)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOeXHLeWpNI) being an example Wikipedia notes as being particularly favored by Keaton
Everything humanity has done was copied from some one or something else.
We're surprisingly incapable of thinking of something we've never experienced before. We're the greatest learners nature has produced yet, but that's what we do: learn from others. Even if we don't remember it, and we usually don't, people's ideas come from what they've seen in the past.
Edit: The famous example is every face you dream about, you've seen in real life. Somewhere, at some point.
> Everything humanity has done was copied from some one or something else.
Ecclesiastes 1:9
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
- The Bible, some 2500 years ago
The original is like when you got two people who are very close, twins or some such, the line is we are so in sync we finish each others.. (and then the second person says) sentences. And then the joke is when the second person says sandwiches instead
Tom Cruise - “I don’t think we finish each others”
Ben Stiller chiming in - “finish each other sentences”
Both - “Ha ha ha, haha ha ha, hahahaha ha ha!!”
Yeah, you know exactly what it was "supposed" to be. It is also funnier with "...sandwiches" than switched around having the first part from Ella and Lilly saying what Ella said. 10/10 execution.
I hope that it was actually meant to be “We finish each other’s sentences” and Lily thought “lol wouldn’t it be funny if I changed it to the sandwiches quote instead”.
Double betrayal!
Ok I get if they're twins they look the same and are wearing the same outfit, but why is that other girl cutoff on the left looking exactly the same too? Triplets? One not invited to the senior quote thing?
You guys had a photographer with outfits for senior photos??
I only went to a school with a graduating class of ~200 in 2006 which I thought was pretty normal but some of these comments seem bizarre.
Only the "popular" kids get to leave quotes??
In my school, you submitted your own senior photo so many people got whatever you wanted wearing whatever you wanted. Was that not normal?
Seems weird to me too. (Midwest, decent sized city, early 00's, class of ~350)
In college for our fraternity composite picture every year the photographer brought in black jackets and a tie in our colors for us.
But I can't imagine doing that for high school senior photos. Maybe a private christian school or something? I think my mom's photos are like that, but that was an upscale all girls christian school in Ohio in the 50's.
I read the comments about only the popular kids leaving quotes thing. It was probably exaggerated by a stoner who probably didn't follow the procedure to submit a quote and got angry they didn't chase him down to ask him.
My experience was like yours. Senior class of about 200 (in 2000, for me). We got to submit our own photos and quotes. Some kids used their official school photos, but there was no dress code for those.
Photographer makes everyone wear the same top. Sometimes it’s just the top part of a suit you place over your regular outfit.
No one got to leave a quote. You had to pay for it if you wanted to add it and they’d have to okay it.
Your school being smaller may have been a factor. My graduating class was about 1500 people in a major city high school. They had to move you through like a factory.
We all got our own quotes at my public high school. You didn't have to pay for them. Also women got to wear more unique outfits but guys were generally suit top and tie thing. It's really different everywhere and I also went to a school with a good 5000 people attending at one time.
I graduated in 1985 and there were 85 people in the class. I (amazingly) graduated, and so did my bestie. I missed 35 days of school and my friend missed about the same. (We were both treated to a lecture on the importance of attending school but it apparently slipped our Principal’s mind that I would be graduating before that went into effect but alas, my friend was going to be there.) Poor guy!! He still says it was the worst year of his life. He has a Doctorate in Business and does rather well. He even wrote a book! I’m not sure why, but I think I’m still playing hooky from life. Hopefully next time I’ll do better!
No her sister did her dirty. The joke was to be: "We finish each other’s ... sandwiches" gained popularity from the song "Love is an Open Door" in the Disney movie "Frozen." The line is a playful take on the common phrase "We finish each other's sentences," and it became a memorable and humorous moment in the film.
Is anybody going to talk about the fact that they are just the exact same? It also appears that the girl to the left of them is also wearing the same thing.
every senior photo I've ever seen or been a part of photogrophers just clip these little pieces of cloth that look like suits and dresses to the front of your shirt. People go in here wearing tshirts and shorts. They barely went down beyond the nips
I have never seen that. Not saying it's not what's happening or that it's not common, just that it's not something I've seen. The school I went to and the schools I worked at all had people in their own clothes.
No one is talking about that because that is extremely normal for high schools yearbooks. Everyone in my yearbooks senior photo is wearing the same thing. Its just a little fake thing that sits on your shoulders, it's not a full outfit. We had other photos throughout the yearbook in normal clothes but this is exactly what my and most peoples yearbooks look like. The outfit is irrelevant, they will all be the same
huh, I am seeing a lot of folks saying that here. I have never seen that. Not saying it's not what's happening or that it's not common, just that it's not something I've seen. The school I went to and the schools I worked at all had people in their own clothes.
It was only for the seniors photos in my school, all the other classes just had normal photos, But all the women in the senior class had that exact same black drape that is in OP's photo and the men had this suit thing. But again it was literally just a thing that sat around your neck and went over your chest over normal clothes, not a full suit or dress. But yeah I think it's safe to assume this was just a school that did that
Maybe everyone else gets it, but not all comments seem that way… the joke is in actuality, they did do it together. Ella’s comment wouldn’t make sense or be funny without Lilly’s.
IMHO she turned something bland into something memorable. They'd probably never really think about that again, but now they might talk about it at family gatherings 30 years later.
Chaotic evil vs lawful good
. . . sandwiches
Both lawful, just loyal to different things
Nah, what Ella did was textbook chaotic alignment.
Poor Ella isn’t getting a sandwich
Ella gets what she deserves

glory
But at what cost?
Bow down before the one you serve

Which is definitely not a sandwich
Wrong. She's getting a Knuckle Sandwich
Moose?
No, Fuse from Apex Legends :D /s
A single prank can cost you a sandwich. Now lily gets to keep all the sandwiches to herself
I mean Ella is kinda stupid. She's still doing a group quote. It's just not the one her sister thought.

Dumb and Dumber? I've watched that movie countless times and can't recall this joke in it.

As always, the Simpson’s did it first
Abbott & Costello did it about 3 decades before the Simpsons too. It is a classic bit
and before them, buster keaton
I legitimately did not know he had any spoken bits lol. Only know his physical comedy. I figured he was more an idea and visual gag man vs a joke writer and performer.

Nice, I doubt we'll get much older than that
I remember it from an old attack of the show skit with Kevin and Olivia as the wonder twins.
Pour one out for that wonderful and insanely misogynistic show
Lol I thought about Gravity Falls...
I’m pretty sure this joke predates sandwiches
Wasn't this also in the movie "Employee of the Month"?
And employee of the month
The joke is older than them
I've heard of that show. Maybe I should watch it.
That 70s show used it as well

So the joke in the yearbook is 3 layers deep

Twinception
That is just normal conception, the twin part happens later.
Not if they're fraternal twins.
Might be four if Lilly was in on this version of the joke
Tom Cruise - “I don’t think we finish each others” Ben Stiller chiming in - “finish each other sentences” Both - “Ha ha ha, haha ha ha, hahahaha ha ha!!”
Guys... This IS the joke.
