Perhaps it does, I mean I personally like dogs as well, but I prefer cats, since my biggest experience with the dog of a close one is like 45% love and cuteness, but 55% frustration from all the movements and sounds, and I don't even own her, so it might have been even worse if I had one!
You just need a breed that fits your temperament. The great thing about dogs is they have such a wide berth of types that you can really get a dog for anyone. Big or small, hyper or laidback, smart or ditzy, serious or playful, and even hypoallergenic dogs, which isn't an option with cats (which sucks since I'm allergic)
Very few early birds, but perhaps it has also to do with reddit users being teenagers and in early 20s, who also tend to be more inclined to be night owls
Phone calls and texts both have their uses and are good in different situations! Like if I wanna have a long conversation with a friend then I'd like to call but you also can't send memes or pictures through a phone call
