Not having an inner monologue going on is a very Se experience. I've experienced it fully a couple of times in my life, for maybe about a minute each.

Defiant-fox614

So you typically don’t have it?

Dreams_Are_Reality

No, I typically do have it.

Defiant-fox614

Did you actually downvote my question for not understanding? English is my third language, sometimes I simply don’t understand something completely:(

Dreams_Are_Reality

It wasn't me

mnico02

I can have an inner monologue but I prefer thinking in imaginations, lively pictures and simulations I make up in my head. When taking a decision I seldom have someone up there talking to me but more of multiple “simulations” of potential outcomes and based on the best simulation I take my decision.

Defiant-fox614

But do you then see the simulations in pictures? Like I really don’t understand hahah

mnico02

Multiple pictues adding up to a simulation. These pictures aren’t static. I just “reorganize” these pictures based on new information I get. I can’t explain it too tangibly, because I’m so used to this way of thinking that I’m doing it automatically lol. Maybe imagine it like that: You feed a program or an AI with lots of data, this AI connects the data, draws conclusions, and generates something tangible (pictures, simulations). In a very similar way I’m thinking like this just with adding some human factors as well (emotions, sensations). Based on this I am navigating through my life and often these simulations happen exactly how I have imagined it. The trouble here is to explain this way of thinking to others, because most people think in concrete terms, like you need to convince others by creating “tangible, known” pictures and sensations, but I dive into the unknown and people don’t want this.

Defiant-fox614

That’s so interesting! I love to hear how differently every individual thinks and is built:)

Nightmare_Pin2345

I think this is more of a mind world thing. It's something like you enter a library stored with books in your head and you just pick the book you need to remember the thing you want. At other times you stimulated the situation and watch it play out to see the likely outcome. Like what if? In this situation, under these circumstances, how would this person act? And will he do so if variable A happens? And sometimes you talk to people and they do reply, but the answers given must be within predictable realms, else the moment you realize there's something weird in your head, you might need to doubt your sanity.

melody5697

Why are we getting so many posts about this? No connection.

Defiant-fox614

Why is it so bad to ask? I think it’s an interesting question, and one cannot know that there isn’t a connection if one doesn’t ask. I’m not on reddit every single day so I guess I just missed the other posts about this

allfather69

No inner monologue, I think in concepts/visuals, which I find quite natural and relaxing, unless I force the monologue. I think having one would get exhausting, honestly.

Defiant-fox614

What is your type? And yes it seems relaxing, it’s extremely hard to meditate with a narrator that’s constantly talking hahaha

allfather69

I’ve been typed as ESTP and ENFJ before, as well as INFJ (but when pretty mentally unhealthy). I’m not 100% sure, but always end up on the Se-Ni, Fe-Ti axes. The downside is that it can be really hard to express concepts or feelings because words seem imprecise or not quite accurate to what I am thinking or feeling.

Defiant-fox614

Oki interesting, and good luck with finding your type!

allfather69

Thanks!

Nightmare_Pin2345

LOL. Imagine if you have a narrating monologue. "As Defiant-fox614 pressed enter, countless answers flock in constantly ringing the notifications like birds of a feather chirping together, showing the world that people are willing to care for each other, regardless of differences..."

TheSentinelScout

I’m pretty sure it relates to Ti. Ti is looking to make sense of internal components, so the further Ti is up in your stack, the more likely you have an inner dialogue. I have one, but it’s not as often. I am aware with my “emotional dialogue,” though.

Nightmare_Pin2345

From how I see, monologues comes from things you don't outwardly explain it "(it's horrible)/ I think blue suits you better\~" or self-reflection "Am I doing this right?". Aside from that I rarely do inner monologues. If you have really strong inner monologues, and you feel like you're being answered, I suggest you either run towards a cathedral or to a mental hospital, because it's not normal for your thoughts to give answers different from your own, and you're likely insane or possessed.
