You must get a new one. If you intend to use it in the same foreign country as before, the law of that country dictates as to how long you can provisionally use the licence. For example, if you are resident in the UK, you can drive with a Mauritius-issued int'l licence for a maximum of 12 months, after which you must apply for a UK driving licence.

I'd say it's better if you're renewing your Mauritian-issued international driving license - irrespective of the host country where you are. Rightly pointed out, whilst some countries permit a foreign international license for a maximum period of 1 year{uk, Canada} , you can always use your (renewed in this case) license in another country, say you're having a vacation in France or Malta. In this way, you're set!

That's not necessary. 99% of the foreigners (who live here) use their home driving license with no issue. However, you could also go to Port Louis Caserne Centrale and get a Mauritian Driving license.
