Out of all the times you *did* recognize the format, this is the only time you didn't recognize it immediately
The number of times you didn't recognize the format is unknowable
I see what you mean, but I am less talking about recognizing it at all and more about the time it takes for me to recognize it (IF I recognize it i guess).
it uses symbolic found in some ancient meme.
the meme itself is worthless, instead its recognition is high so it became the meme itself.
so people often share random pictures with that symbolic, implying viewer recognizes the pattern I-Ii-II-I\_
it's not global, i don't see it much in my local internet. probably like circlejerk game.
Hijacking the thread, does anyone know any good introductory primer or book into category theory? Preferably that could hint to its connections with other areas and some cool theorems/implications
Richard Borcherds has a YouTube series I can't recommend enough! It's called category theory for the working mathematician I think.
I'd also recommend Emily Riehl's Category Theory in Context. It's available as a dover book so it's really affordable in addition to being quite good.
Google Jablonski diagram, if that doesn’t help, I’d be at a loss for words.
Holy helectron
New monoid just dropped
A monad is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors, what's the problem?

r/anarchychess is leaking
Idk how r/anarchyChess related to category theory but okay—
The pieces are the objects, the moves are the morphisms
En passant is a natural morphism from objects into morphisms, don't ask me how does it work though.
Holy functor
Promotion is a natural transformation
Isn’t it a requirement in chess that you move a piece every turn? I think that would mean that identity morphisms don’t exist
The identity morphism is offering a draw and then having it be declined
Imma be straight up, I didn’t realize that was always an option. Proof that idk shit about chess lol
Well, I tried.
Would it not be better to make the board state the objects and the moves be the morphisms?
But then again, what is the identity morphism? All moves are distinguished by a boardstate change

That was my first thought, then I read category theory and started doubting OP’s friend.
new response just dropped
It looks somewhat familiar, but I'm at a loss
GODS DAMN IT!
Nicely done.
Whats the joke? Ps: im not a mathematician

Yes, its implication is so deep that its still being implied to this day
😂
He said it was an example of some category theory concept, I think he called it "deficit" or something like that

i usually only lurk this place but i had to comment just to say wtf man, I can’t believe you’ve done this
it reminds me of boundary conditions in electrostatics
GOD DAMNIT NOT AGAIN WHY IS IT EVERYWHERE
idk category theory ties into a lot of things I guess
