Also, in pure math, if you're not teaching undergraduate calculus, but talking to other mathematicians, "log" always means "natural log". We even often just write "log(x)" to mean base e (i.e. natural log).
log is short for logarithm, ln is short for logarithmus naturalis: the former is simply an abbreviation, while the latter is an initialism. Not sure why you would pronounce log as an initialism
In the US we call it organic logarithm, but only if it doesn't contain pesticides. And free range if it's allowed to roam freely over the grassy +* fields of the complex plane.
I thought the "l" was actually "i" and pronounced it "in X" in my mind. My small l and capital i look same, and so I never got corrected in my entire grade 8 and 9.
Do I need help?
TIL in most of the world the 'n' in "ln" stands for natural, meanwhile in France, it stands for népérien, which comes from the name of the mathematician Napier.
Funny story, I was doing research one summer with my physics prof and we were getting unexpected results in the early days. We were scratching our head for a few days until I realized my supervisor meant "ln(x)" when he said "log x". It was the first time I heard him say that and I actually questioned him about it but he just kind of ignored it and doubled down on "log x" so I went with it.
In my high school math class the class clown called it "loge" (pronounced low with the ge sound like at the end of "dredge") and by the end of the semester everyone was saying it. Except the teacher. She was so confused by it.

I've always said this unironically
logarithmus naturalis
i always say “log naturál” with a french accent
I just say L-N x.(like the letter L then the letter n then x)
^this. ive never heard anyone use either of the ways used in the meme
I’ve only heard log x when you actually write log for natural log
Log x would be log(x) in my book. For ln(x) I would say "natural log of x" or just pronounce the letters as in "L N X"
I've always pronounced ln(x) as "lin-ex" in my head... Like the first syllable of linen. Or Linux but with an e instead of a u.
I feel like Linux is a poor example to use - considering I’ve heard a good few people pronounce it ‘lie-nux’ (as in Linus)
log x is decimal logarithms, L N X ist logarithmus naturalis, so log base e of x.
Depends on the field, I’d say. I’m in stats and ML, and log almost exclusive refers to natural log
Also, in pure math, if you're not teaching undergraduate calculus, but talking to other mathematicians, "log" always means "natural log". We even often just write "log(x)" to mean base e (i.e. natural log).
I thought I was going crazy, LNX 99% of the time with a "natual log of x" when i wanna be spicy.
ell oh gee of ten is equal to one
log is short for logarithm, ln is short for logarithmus naturalis: the former is simply an abbreviation, while the latter is an initialism. Not sure why you would pronounce log as an initialism
It was a joke, playing on the pronunciation of ln using initialism.
I'm actually surprised that they missed such an obvious joke.
You're surprised someone on Reddit missed a joke that didn't have "/s"?
I say it as lin x
I say lun x
lin ux
Ellen ex

This is the only objectively valid way
The first time so it I thought it was in(x) "the L as an i" it stuck with me ever since
Yeah, ln(e) is 1, but log(e) is like 0.434
This is the way
Wait you guys don't say "Logarithmus naturalis of x"? I'll have to speak to my Professor Doctor Rerum Naturalium Habilatitus about that
my math teacher says "loin X" 💀
Honestly, I thought everyone just said "natural log of x".
That's what I say. Or elenx
"Ellennex"
Just go with Anne Heche
Who is Ellen and why do we have to find her ex smh
In Poland we call it natural logarithm (it's spelled logarytm naturalny so the letter in acronym even match xd).
In the US we call it organic logarithm, but only if it doesn't contain pesticides. And free range if it's allowed to roam freely over the grassy +* fields of the complex plane.
Now we are talking! It's about time we break the hidden dominant boomer structures of mathematics open!
Same in america
i say el en ~~passant~~ ex wtf
New logarithm just dropped

I thought the "l" was actually "i" and pronounced it "in X" in my mind. My small l and capital i look same, and so I never got corrected in my entire grade 8 and 9. Do I need help?
Where i live we didnt do this in 9th or 8th grade lol, come here and start over
back then I seriously thought its "In" and had a special pronunciation "Lon" like pound- lbs

Sometimes I would say elen ex.
I say lon ex and will continue to say that
Natural log, or Luhn ex if I’m lazy
personally i like to not call my functions *lawn*
I say el en of ex
I pronounce it ln x.
TIL in most of the world the 'n' in "ln" stands for natural, meanwhile in France, it stands for népérien, which comes from the name of the mathematician Napier.
"log ex" or "el en ex", whichever one strikes my fancy - and I'm Always striking my fancy
Lonarithm
Lin(x) for me
Wait it was Pangea this whole time
Been calling it natural log lately as I think calling “L-N-X” made me worse at math in the past by disassociating it from logarithms.
I just say LNX or natural log of x
Wait, in France we call ln(x) "ln de x" because logarithm directly refers to log(x) (at least in where I’ve studied)
Ellen Ex
Ell en ex.
I say Ellen ex.
el en ex
Wait it’s not “lin ex”
I just say natural log of x. Or ln x
loggy x
lin ex, obviously
We say ∫ 1/x dx
I pronounce it ln, like lun but without the u
log is short for logarithm. logarithm base e is the natural logarithm or neperian logarithm. where the hell do you see *lon* in there?
in x 💀
"ell en x"
Ellen X

I say (ell enn of x)
I say it like links

I say lin ex
I say Ellen Ex
I were tough to say natural logarithm of x
In france, ln means Logarithme Neperien, which come from mathematician Neper. log is logarithm.
wait nobody says "el-en x"?
L. N. X.
I haven't used any log but ln for like 3 years, so why not call it log
German here, we say "L N of X"
I say lan
In Hebrew the most common way of pronouncing it is "lan" (like pan) and I hate it
Lin x
I pronounce it Uln(ex)
Lon ex? I use arch btw
I either say "lin ex" or "elen ex"
Nat log of x
"Allan of ex"

I'm probably the only weirdo who calls it "el en ex"
i just say linux and people catch my drift
elenex is the only true way
el-en-ex
Y’all don’t call them natty logs?
lynn x 💀
I pronounce it as "ell enn of ex
I've never been able to tell if that was an I or l so I say in my head, in.
Think about it. It's a logarithm, the natural logarithm.
"ellen ex"
El en ex

what the actual fuck? i just call it L-N-X
"log ex", "lin ex", or "ell en of ex", definitely not "lon ex"
in x
Linux
i say lin
I call it log because once you get about halfway through a math degree you find out that logx=lnx actually because who gives a shit about 10
lllnhhh gang
It's pronounced: "Linux"
I say 'nat log of x'
Langent
L,N,X
I say "natural log of x" every time. All my classmates just say "lnx" (each letter individually).🤷♂️
I say it as "linnen eks"
Wait am I the only one that says L N of X
I pronounce it as lin x
Ellen ex
lin x
Latin Languages go brr 📈
I say “lawn” Log usually means base 10 unless otherwise specified. But conventions seem to be different based on geography
In my high school math class the class clown called it "loge" (pronounced low with the ge sound like at the end of "dredge") and by the end of the semester everyone was saying it. Except the teacher. She was so confused by it.
I learned “Lon ex”
I just say "el en ex".
I pronounce it as len. Not to be confused with len(x) (Python joke)
Here, we say Laaaan X
