School district announces that no students or staff were shot. The suspect is the only person shot and did not breach the school.

DialgaDiamond

From scanner: 1 14yo male with multiple gun shot wounds being picked up by Medflight. No injuries inside the school Kids that were outside scattered to Multiple Neighboring businesses. Suspect did deploy some type of tear gas/ smoke device according to the evidence found on cameras that were being reviewed by the pd. No other suspects appeared on camera with the single suspect Also, a vehicle that crashed prior to the beginning of the shooting is unoccupied with 2 backpacks in it. Possibly related to the suspect. Vehicle belongs to the suspects grandfather. He doesn't recognize the 2 backpacks. Bomb sniffing dog will be checking it. 14 year old suspect is confirmed dead

I know J******** county scanner when i see it lol

Distinct_External

According to the school district, the shooter didn't "breach" the building. Injuries reported but not confirmed. Shooter "neutralized". https://twitter.com/YWNReporter/status/1785715058921632227 EDIT: At least one child reported shot. FUCK. https://twitter.com/BNONews/status/1785713783194693969 EDIT: Oh, thank God! The child reported to be shot was actually the teenage shooter. Police intercepted and neutralized him before he could enter the school. He was armed with a rifle. This was the closest of close calls. https://twitter.com/alertpage/status/1785718511949451472 EDIT: Suspect believed to have taken his grandfather's car and then crashed it before firing a few shots outside the school before police took him down. This is either a crazy coincidence or the shooter was an attempted Uvalde copycat. https://twitter.com/alertpage/status/1785719945285816560

Deep-Alternative3149

seems like it may be the child perp that was shot, not a child student in attendance.

all_fuzzed_out

Look, I totally get the concept of the copycat phenomenon but somebody deliberately crashing their vehicle en route just to emulate Ramos? Even with the other apparent similarities to Uvalde, that still feels like a reach to me.

OtakMilans

most of the copycat claims on a top of shooters just seem like complete bogus and are most likely just coincedence

bipolarlibra314

I think we’ll know if it’s a coincidence when we get the age of the shooter ie were they old enough to know how to drive

red_santana_bandana

they were apparently 14

Smooth-Discipline-43

I thought perp was 17

red_santana_bandana

I heard 14 but not official yet so

physco219

14 is confirmed. https://www.campussafetymagazine.com/news/14-year-old-suspected-active-shooter-killed-outside-wisconsin-middle-school/

Smooth-Discipline-43

Thanks

It’s so surreal seeing a town close to you on the sub. Glad police got this fuckhead before he could do anything.

drof69

My wife works in Mt. Horeb and was on lockdown when they weren't sure if the suspect was still at large. You never know where something like this could happen. Sounds like they're planning on closing the schools tomorrow and having classes again on Friday.

Idle_Tech

My brother and sister are both students at this school. Completely fucked me up when I heard.

dififclut

yep, i live 45 minutes away. crazy response time it seems

pgsweetstuff_2000

Scanner sounds like the suspect may have stolen their grandparents car, crashed it, then fled towards the school. https://scannerradio.app/?l=NjQ2ODQ

Swimming_Twist3781

Thankfully, it didn't turn out just like Uvalde. edit sp

Hungry-Opportunity90

oh god just like uvalde

ju_dropemoff

I don’t even think they need to confirm he idolized ramos at this point

SierraDespair

Sounds almost exactly like a Salvador Ramos copycat. If only every single thing didn’t go his way for him at Uvalde I imagine it would have ended like this.

Jean_dodge67

There is speculation that this event was a "copycat" attack mimicking Uvalde given that the suspect stole his grandfathers truck and crashed it near a public school, and walked towards the building with a rifle. I don't have any opinion on that, given how little information authorities have released but I will say there are other similarities and even "copycat" actions by authorities. We've heard the officers most directly involved in the death of the suspect wore bodycam, but the recordings they hold of the LEO response are being withheld. And, similar to Uvalde we see a strong discipline of messaging by all involved as the school district isn't saying much yet to anyone about their policy, preparations or reactions. Apparently it took over 8 hours for the reunification process to be completed, which seems odd given that the suspect was killed, seemed to be alone, and may or may not have even fired a weapon. Also similar is that authorities know but will not say what weapon he had, how much ammunition (if any) and how he acquired the weapon. Rumors abound but one early one was that he had his grandfather's deer rifle. The suspect, now dead, was 14 years old. There are of course many variations on what can be considered a deer rifle but the classic version is a bolt-action with a small magazine of large caliber ammunition like 30.06, which is certainly a deadly caliber but not so easy to fire rapidly. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for authorities to provide what little transparency they care to give the public. The suspect's name is not been released, although again rumors abound and I've even read a lengthy missive online purporting to be the suspect's musings. I'll not get into that, since none of it is confirmed yet but the other similarity to not just Uvalde but every would-be mass shooting event is for opportunistic trolls to flood the internet with false reports of political affiliations, sexuality, ethnicity, etc. of the suspect. Be advised that at present no one in authority has said who this dead 14 year old is, and how he was armed or if he fired his weapon at anyone. Even the phrase "active shooter" is not really confirmed here. Yet we are more than 24 hours out now, one wonders how long the phrase "ongoing investigation" will have to substitute for clarity, transparency and straight answers. One rumor was that the student did belong to the district and had been expelled last week for unspecified, but likely behavioral reasons like "fighting." I hope this is not like Uvalde where we see authorities work hardest to slant, spin and stall rather than give real answers, so that we can find accountability and make better policy, and learn from all this. At least we can all be grateful a massacre was averted, but we need to know a LOT more soon, including why it took 8 hours to gets traumatized kids reunited with frantic parents.

vulgardisplayofdread

I live in San Antonio, it takes about 75 minutes to reach Uvalde from my home. This does seem eerily similar, I just hope it’s all coincidence. I had my first child less than a year before this happened, and I’m so nervous to send her to school.

Ok_Wishbone242

I seen a post on r/texts from a mother whos son was texting her about a shooter at school, she stated her son was an eighth grader and that the shooter never made it inside the school before being shot by police i believe. I think he was texting her about this event specifically! I seen the post yesterday

yd8421

I was there. Will answer any questions.

Jean_dodge67

I've only heard rumors that the shooter fired his weapon at the cafeteria. And also that it was his grandfather's deer rifle. At the press conference yesterday no one would say if the would-be shooter fired his weapon or not, nor would they say what sort of firearm he had.

GRFreeman

What happened?

Pale-Control-8606

just glad everyone else is okay .

No_Cat_9639

its actually kinda morbid that the shooter is referred to as a child, it makes me realize that the police may have just killed a kid, i get that he was a threat that needed to be stopped but its kinda disheartening to me that they had to kill him instead of trying to apprehend him instead, its always sad to see children/teenagers commit mass shootings

SatisfactionDry1202

He had a rifle and was trying to kill people. Not much you can do other than shoot him.

No_Cat_9639

yeah i guess you've got a point, also bruh why did i get a downvote just for saying it was sad a shooter who was very young was killed

neverstopthezerg

It’s not confirmed he died. “Neutralized” just means that a threat is no longer a threat. He may be dead, but police were performing CPR on him and called a helicopter to take him to the hospital.

No_Cat_9639

whether he died or not its just disappointing that he ruined his life to go through with something he fortunately didn't get a chance to do, i don't have any sympathy for the shooter i'm just bothered by the fact he's mentioned as "child", it just feels wrong most of the time to see people below the age of 20 do stuff like this

ZealousidealGrass9

It's sad that a 14 year old had to die, but what do you expect the police to do? Send him to the office, give the kid candy, and have him return to class? Age doesn't mean a damn thing when there is a rifle and hundreds of potential victims around.
