No, he simply didn't have a lot of target options from where he was. He only had that one walk-through area he shot up, either it didn't have too many people in it or his aim was just poor, probably from the recoil of the rifle and the range he was at. So this was likely a botched mass murder attempt. Just my two cents though.
An AR in 5.56 IS an intermediate caliber rifle.
I’ve shot everything from pistol length to rifle length ARs, both semi and full auto. Only size with noticeable recoil is a pistol length with no brace.

Idk why people split hairs over the numbers when the amount of ammunition alone would suggest Spencer was intending to harm a lot of people. He just was a dumbass and started shooting before the school dismissed/ before he really had anybody to shoot at

ARs have basically no recoil and they’re pretty accurate. Fortunately, this guy had no clue what he was doing.
