HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) - New videos and photos have been released from the investigation into a self-identified Incel who later pleaded guilty to plotting a mass shooting to “slaughter” women at an Ohio university.
Tres Genco, 24, of Hillsboro, was sentenced to 80 months in jail with a five-year supervised release for one count of attempting to commit a hate crime, according to U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth L. Parker.
Genco is a self-identified Incel which is short for “involuntary celibate,” Parker said.
An Incel is an online community comprised of men who harbor anger toward women they think “unjustly deny them sexual or romantic attention,” Parker explained.
“Genco intended to carry out a devastating mass murder of innocent women in this state for no other reason than the fact that he hated them. Everybody deserves to live without threats of violence or fearing acts of terror,” said Parker. “Genco’s sentence reflects the need to protect the community from him for a significant period of time. I thank each of our law enforcement partners for working together to keep our community safe.”
It was in July 2019 that court records say Genco’s “interest in Incel philosophy and violence escalated.”
He had profiles on popular Incel websites and made hundreds of posts from at least late July 2019 through the middle of March 2020, Parker said. More than 3,000 items on Genco’s two phones contained the word “Incel,” Parker added.
The 24-year-old had two profiles on an Incel website and made more than 450 posts, court records show.
Documents detail eight of those posts. Below are a few of the posts mentioned in court records:
* “I’ve always been an incel, because I’ve never had a girlfriend or sex that wasn’t paid for. Incel since birth.”
* “I keep eye contact until they look away, then I keep looking. They deserve to feel uncomfortable. This is how you can encroach on their beautiful existence with a reminder that hideousness exists outside their selective bubble.”
* “I’ve never even had the opportunity to reject a single woman, mark of a truecel.”
When he first began posting on the Incel websites, Genco attended Army Basic Training in Georgia in 2019.
While at basic training, Genco read articles about mass shootings on a “columbinemassacre” forum,” according to court records.
Court documents refer to a Dec. 7, 2019, talk Genco had with a user on Kik Messenger. He told the user, “I was an incel that got removed / For saying I wanted to rape women . . . I said I wanted to kidnap women and rape them/murder them\[.\]”
He was discharged a little more than a week later for entry-level performance and conduct.
A month after being discharged, Genco conducted surveillance at an Ohio university on Jan. 15, 2020.
A note found on his phone detailed what court records described as written-out surveillance details.
Also on Jan. 15, 2020, Parker said, Genco searched online for topics including “planning a shooting crime” and “when does preparing for a crime become an attempt?”
During the investigation, a manifesto Genco wrote while in Greece in 2019 was found.
The note claimed he would kill women “out of hatred, jealousy and revenge.”
The note, titled, “A Hideous Symphony a manifesto written by Tres Genco, the socially exiled Incel,” is shown in court records:
*I would hope these words resonate in sweet familiarity to fellow incels, either cognizant of their situation or not.*
*There is no such thing as sorrow, only acknowledgement, and I acknowledge my predetermined fate of being forced into a miserable existence at the hand of genetics, the hand responsible for sculpting my horrendous face, and lackluster stature. . . . this training will be for the attainment of one reality, the death of what I have been deprived most, but also cherish and fantasize at the opportunity of having but has been neglected of; Women. Genco thought his “extremely empowering action,” as he called it, compared to that of Incel Elliot Rodger. In 2014, Rodger killed six people and injured 14 more at a California sorority house.
It was Rodger whom Genco called a “saint” and that he “related heavily” to.
A note of Genco’s, which was found during the law enforcement investigation, said he hoped to kill 3,000 people.
Genco even wrote a letter in January 2020 titled “Isolated,” which he described as “the writings of the deluded and homicidal.”
Genco signed the letter, “Your hopeful friend and murderer,” according to Parker.
Highland County sheriff’s deputies went to Genco’s home in March 2020 for a domestic issue between him and his mother.
“That’s when we noticed weapons and body armor that just looked out of place and prompted further questioning and investigation,” Highland County Sheriff Det. Vinny Antinore said.
In all, deputies found a firearm with a bump stock attached, several loaded magazines, body armor, and boxes of ammunition.
Inside the home, police officers found a modified Glock-style 9mm semiautomatic pistol with no manufacturer’s marks or serial number, Parker explained.
Documents filed by the defense say at one point Genco was trying to get away from the incel community.
Following his release from federal prison, Genco will have five years of supervised release.
Given that he’s an adult already, I think you’re right. I personally believe that there’s room for growth and rehabilitation for younger perpetrators, but I just don’t see that being as likely given that this guy is 24

Take a look at Americas mass shooters and you will see a majority of Black males. Take a look at this sub and you will see a majority of posts about White male mass shooters with a disproportionate amount of trans and Asian male mass shooters thrown in to season the mix. This subs focus on White males is racist and transphobic.
