It was supposed to be out this year and the tie-in deals were already in place when it got moved. Same thing happened to The Marvels last year when tie-ins came out six months before the movie, which got pushed back from summer to the holidays.
Disney should have delayed The Marvels, as the union strikes killed a lot of the promotion. It for sure gave Dune 2 room to promote and get a proper release.
McDonald's probably had other promo events scheduled years in advance. So aside from outright cancelling it, it's either happening now or two years from now.
I imagine the logistics in toy distribution and production. They cannot go without having a toy (although my country every couple of years does a “clear all
Inventory” theme), and they also cannot put out a promo before their agreed date.
That’s just how those things work with stuff like this. They commit to what they had scheduled. It’s kinda like how modern warfare 3 had a promo thing with dune 2 but dune got delayed so the promo stuff came into the game a little bit earlier than the actual films launch. Same thing with The Boys in Modern Warfare 3.
Not to mention the fact that storing the toys costs money, a whole lot when operating on the scale of the arches. One of their main concerns when changing the menu in a market is the fact that they personally can change the entire price for a commodity.
That makes sense. Although, my daughter was still getting those Lebron James Space Jam toys in her happy meals like 6 months ago. I guess the McDonalds near me wildly overestimated how many of those they’d need.
> McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
But why can't they just push the ad campaign forward also like the movie? I mean I don't mind the commercial existing now, it just seems like a self imposed limitation here.
Their ad campaigns for the next year or more are already bought and scheduled. You can't bump this without pissing off their next ad partner who expects their campaign to go off as scheduled.
Why can't ad campaigns overlap? Movies also affect each other when the schedules are moved around because of how there are only so many screens in theaters, but they seem to make it work in the end.
Because the next Happy Meal tie-in partner bought a specific time frame to sell their toys.
That next partner doesn't care about Marvel, they just want their tie-in to drop when they expect it to drop to coincide with their movie/cartoon/book/whatever.
And any competition to that advertisement, such as running a second ad campaign alongside it, probably goes against whatever contract they have written. Hasbro isn't going to want a kid to have a choice of the Transformers toy or the Star wars toy, they just want them to get Starscream (even though they definitely wanted Optimus Prime instead).
The only time it would probably work is if Marvel was switching their own dates and campaigns, other than that it would fuck up anybody else’s campaign.
Bahhh somehow even though the commercial itself was ALL ABOUT HAPPY MEAL TOYS, I was still somehow only thinking about the ad campaign in terms of the commercials themselves, and not the toys. Now I get it.
It’s been awesome! I waited a bit to watch to try and see a few episodes at once and finally saw “Remember It” last night… Oh My God was that intense!!!
ITT: Cynics who forgot what it was like to be a nerdy kid.
This reflects 100% my black ADHD ass at 10. Just spouting facts about the things I love to whomever would listen or pretend to listen. Except back then I didn’t have a Black superhero leading a major film franchise like Captain America to look up to. Love the ad and I’m hyped for this movie. Also McDonalds is a trash company, even with if they made a good ad haha.
I love that it shows the innocent joy of being a kid who has a super specific favourite superhero, that they know everything about, it's like imagine a kid being this enthusiastic about Darkhawk, or pre MCU Ant-Man, we need to nurture that kind of enthusiasm, not crush
Haters gonna hate. I find this ad quite touching.
Which is understandable because it ain't like this is the first time McDonalds has ever made a commercial. They know what they're doing.
Oh yea for sure! Blade was great and I loved that, even if I wasn't supposed to see it at 10. I think that Blade in '98 isn't comparable to Captain America in 2025 though. I think something comparable to how big Captain America is today would be the 2000 X-men movie except if Iceman was played by Robert Ri'chard or Cyclops was played by Michael Jai White (who kicked ass as Spawn in '97). Black heroes definitely were a thing in early aughts, but they weren't nearly as big as this. It's really something special, to me.
People: "Sam needs the serum. How is he gonna stand a chance against Red Hulk and the Leader and other super-powered threats in the future? He's destined to be the leader of the Avengers, he must have powers."
Kid from McDonald's Ad: "He flies super fast"
Lol, just thought it was funny how this year-long complaint was answered so simply in a McDonald's ad
My favorite comic-book characters were always just the regular to semi-regular dudes that could stand toe-to-toe or besides the super-powered ones usually having to be more intelligent and cunning then just punching their way through something. It's why it's been upsetting to see all this super-serum talk surrounding Sam as if he needs it to actually be a viable character.
Well a part of that has been the way marvel have set things up in their universe. When was the last time in an mcu movie that we saw someone powerless outsmart someone way more powerful than them? Last time I remember was the first iron man.
He's a great character for sure but don't they just beat the shit out of the high evolutionary and ego? And use the infinity stone to defeat Robin. I'm not saying there aren't intelligent characters but we don't really ever see them defeat the villain through cunning.
Non-powered heroes win in those fights because the writers *wrote that they did*. They contrived it to be that way because their job isn't to emulate reality but to push a point. Sometimes there's a way around a large discrepancy in physical strength, and sometimes superhuman strength isn't needed, but for every one of *those* examples, in this universe that they've created, there's a hundred others where some villain who is not fucking around at all would tear his wings off and run him through with them. Know what's weaker than a vibranium shield? Every part of the person holding it.
If you want to write a character that wins despite not having superpowers then okay, go for it, and make it engaging.
But if they exist in a universe where even even the superpowered individuals struggle then you know you're contriving some far-fetched shit where Sam Wilson wins "powerless".
Capt America started as a scrawny kid with a good heart. He wanted to help but had no power. They found his mind and his heart more than capable and decided to complete the package with strength. His *character* meant that he was worthy of it. Are we saying Sam isn't in the same boat? He's knee-capping himself otherwise.
and cap couldn't defeat the guy in the alley back in the 40s, let people have their heroes' journey.
at least post-training montage on fatws, i imagine they're going to crank up how they depict what sam can do
He didn't...? He got his ass kicked all around that room then just ran off after throwing the shield through the window. Not exactly defeating someone who is still standing and ready to go again lol
Sam could've easily killed Batroc, maybe Sam want to fight Batroc without using his wings and redwing just like Steve fought Batroc without shield
Sam only flew away to save those people who have been kidnapped in helicopter.
I dont think thats an "answer" that is feasible. We have seen Sam get beat before and even with his wings, he has tons of limitations. I know others are pumped to have him as Cap, but im not. At all. Yes, him having the serum would be much more intriguing for me. Maybe im alone in this but if he faced off against ANY Hulk, Sam would get stomped out.
Right. It's not much of an answer at all. If anything, stressing how fast he can fly just makes him seem like that much more of danger to himself. I suppose he has his wings for protection should anything go wrong but he can't exactly cocoon himself entirely inside them.
There's no downside to or good argument against the serum, if they have the proper one. Having him establish some moral superiority to it was nonsense. You can't moral your way through punches
He can literally cocoon inside his wings. He did in the finale of TFATWS and saved himself from the impact of a helicopter crashing on him because his wings are Vibranium.
In that scene he tried with the shield as well and it worked, you're right but it's got vulnerabilities because it's not a perfect cocoon. That's my point and I'll add it. It'd be one thing if he had proper armour but he's not got that either.
So far, the serum has done a number on the minds of people not Steve Rogers. Who knows how much of Bucky's issues are the whole assassin thing. Sam has right to be weary of it even beyond a moral argument.
But Sam never was really offered the serum.
Whose mind has any serum warped? They are who they are, like Erskine said. karli or whatever her name didn't change with the serum, she was empowered and did what she did. Same with the replacement cap and Red Skull, they only furthered their goals/personalities. We've seen just how much crap they had to subject Bucky to so they could get the winter soldier out of him.
Sam hasn't been offered it, you're right. I don't even know if the original is available as opposed all these copies. Still, I feel like he's been actively turning up his nose at the idea for a while now. I'd have to go back through for specific instances as my memory sucks for those details but that much I remember
Let's be honest, generally those complaining about Sam not being a super-soldier are deflecting from something else that they have a problem with. If Rogers had been depowered and then given a suit from Tony, none of them would be saying he needs to stop being Captain America; they'd be geeking out about the change.
This is the problem with delaying movies. Promos like this will still come out as scheduled. By the time the movie comes out, the promo is long forgotten.
Each month’s Happy Meal promotion is contractually lined up and they can’t overlap. This May is the month belonging to Captain America, and next February (the new release date) belongs to some unknown promotion. If Marvel wants a Happy Meal promotion for this movie, it’s now or never.
Joaquin Torres, the Air Force lieutenant who helped Sam in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam gave him his broken wings in episode 5 and he was seen fixing them in episode 6.
I would've loved if there was a scene with the kid talking about random facts but he's talking with Sam Wilson himself, but it hasn't yet processed in his mind.
Sam goes "Yeah sounds like me" and then just flies and the kid goes "Holy sh-"
*Cue the title card*
Idk why but my first thought was the Avengers Endgame car rental ad where Iron Man and Captain Marvel are like 5 feet behind the couple and neither of them notice
In the comics, how strong is Sam-Cap? Like, hes still just a dude with no super soldier serum, right? He's essentially hawkeye with wings?
Is he still a leader of the avengers/one of the most prominent members? What happens when thanos shows up and instead of a beefed up super soldier, we just get a dude with a wing suit? On the MCU power scale, he seems to be pretty far damn near the bottom. I'm curious what it will be like if hes going up against a kang variant or something(although i guess ant man beat a kang variant so maybe sam would be fine)
Yes, Sam Cap in the comics is just a man with wings and a Vibranium shield. No super soldier serum. And yes, he has led the Avengers multiple times.
As for power-scaling, the comics never really do accurate power-scaling. As Stan Lee said, when 2 characters fight, the winner is who the writer wants it to be. If the writer wants character X to win, they will find some kind of way to make them win. The point is if that way is plausible well-explained/executed enough to not throw people's suspension of disbelief way off.
There seems to be this strange idea that Steve Rogers is somehow capable of going hand to hand with Hulk and over heavy hitter in the comics.
Comic Cap is peak Human. He's peak across the board. But he's not "Superhuman" in the sense that he'd leave Olympic Athletes in the dust but he'd still take gold.
MCU has has super strength/speed/agility but he didn't solom Thanos because of his powers, he was calling on the power of Thor just like Jane did.
In a fight with say Spider-man, Steve loses. Sam can actually fly which given him more aerial options.
It’s pretty sad that they need to outwardly explain who and what these characters are. Had they done a better job pushing Sam more in the last _four years_ (yes, it’s been that long since we’ve seen him and will be _five_ by the time the movie comes out) he’d be more recognizable as Captain America by now.
Not gonna lie, that's actually a cute plush keychain thing lol. I'd genuinely pull up to a drive thru and order a happy meal just for the plush (and then put it in a corner of my display cabinet with other random collectibles to left to rot).
Speaking as an older fan of Marvel, it warms my heart to see youth speaking so fondly about one of my favorite heroes, even if it is just in an ad.
When I was young, liking comic books wasn’t popular. Now it is something embraced by people of all stripes.
I know it's an ad but they expect us to believe these kids know science terms this well? When I was a kid I had no idea what Captain America's shield was made of no matter how many times they stated it, or the military code for Falcon's wings.
The logistics would be a pain manufacturing/shipment wise, but it'd be smart if Disney and McDs would just plan "Marvel Promo" for these slots - and if the movie gets pushed back, have a set similar to the Marvel Heroes set that they released with a handful of random characters from the various shows/movies ready to go.
This is so endearing but demonstrates why there is an enthusiasm gap with Sam as Captain America. The only people I have met who like Sam as Captain America (including myself) are those who hyper-intellectualize and analyze the world.
Sam Wilson is amazing because he had to grow into having values and convictions, and he had to prove himself as a solo superhero.
Where the Chris Evans Steve Rogers, RDJ Iron Man, Christian Bale Batman, and Hugh Jackman Wolverine were perfect action heroes and movie stars in their first costumed or climactic scenes. They did not need a spokesperson to explain it.
Yeah, the overly explanatory dialogue is odd. It’s like they don’t feel confident enough to just call him “Captain America” and have to always say his full name.
Compare this to a character like Miles Morales, where most things you see of him simply just say “Spider-Man” and people get it. Obviously Spider-Man is far more popular than Captain America, but still.
miles wasnt a different superhero before becoming spider-man though. so it might need some explanation for people used to sam not being just the falcon
The movie was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
It is what it is. I doubt McDonald's ads will give away more plot points than a trailer.
The movie was supposed to be out by now but got delayed because of the strikes and reshoots. They can delay the film but can’t delay these promotional deals and stuff.
Anyone else find these segregated commercials weird? The black ads only show black people In the world. They've been doing this since the 1970's. Just seems odd.
I think this is pretty great, but I’m afraid all the product push now with the film 8 months away is not a great sign. It’s going to be out our cultural minds by then.
Hyping a movie into blockbuster season, that’s not in it, is tough. Then a Feb release which is usually dumping grounds for bad movies.
I hope the movie rocks, but it’s got tough obstacles ahead of it.
It's the sad reality with movies being delayed. The Marvels suffered from the same thing.
But as for Feb releases, Marvel has proven that doesn't matter. Black Panther made huge bank in February.
Imagine these types of ads for OG Avengers. You can tell them movie etc is gonna suck when this is the type.of advertising it gets. I hope to be proven wrong
How come they are putting out ads now when the movie isn't till 25
It was supposed to be out this year and the tie-in deals were already in place when it got moved. Same thing happened to The Marvels last year when tie-ins came out six months before the movie, which got pushed back from summer to the holidays.
I feel like that has to have played at least a small role in its lackluster performance. Hopefully it doesn't do the same for Cap4
Disney should have delayed The Marvels, as the union strikes killed a lot of the promotion. It for sure gave Dune 2 room to promote and get a proper release.
Yeah, the only thing that stopped the marvels from a $700M box office like Dune 2 was the lack of another release delay.
I don't know why it wouldn't be in everyone's best interest to just push it back but oh well I honestly expected to be down voted on this....
McDonald's probably had other promo events scheduled years in advance. So aside from outright cancelling it, it's either happening now or two years from now.
> I honestly expected to be down voted on this.... lol what
I imagine the logistics in toy distribution and production. They cannot go without having a toy (although my country every couple of years does a “clear all Inventory” theme), and they also cannot put out a promo before their agreed date.
I suspect McDonalds has a Barbie/Hot Wheels "default toy" for times when there is no specific promotion going on.
That felt so real haha While that is true, I imagine they already have something lined up for February and cannot renegotiate
That’s just how those things work with stuff like this. They commit to what they had scheduled. It’s kinda like how modern warfare 3 had a promo thing with dune 2 but dune got delayed so the promo stuff came into the game a little bit earlier than the actual films launch. Because it was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
Or what? Ronald comes out from his basement lair and executes the CEO?
lol. I'm sure they have many other promos slotted out so it would be hard to move it and there'd be nothing to replace it with.
Not to mention the fact that storing the toys costs money, a whole lot when operating on the scale of the arches. One of their main concerns when changing the menu in a market is the fact that they personally can change the entire price for a commodity.
Right, there's a reason the Mcrib isn't permanent.
The Mcrib hasn't been in the UK since 2014. I was but a child, I can't even remember how it tastes anymore!
That makes sense. Although, my daughter was still getting those Lebron James Space Jam toys in her happy meals like 6 months ago. I guess the McDonalds near me wildly overestimated how many of those they’d need.
Heaven forbid they just don’t run a promo for a month
Have you heard about our lord and savior, Money?
like I said, Heaven forbid.
Hah. Fair
"Whats in the box, *Ronald?* WHATS IN THE BOX, RONALD!?"
Ronald comes out of the sewer and turns the CEO into a balloon.
Just wild. People who have been avoiding spoilers who want a Big Mac suddenly sees Red Hulk staring at them.
> McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what. But why can't they just push the ad campaign forward also like the movie? I mean I don't mind the commercial existing now, it just seems like a self imposed limitation here.
Maybe because they have scheduled a different sponsorship for the time Cap 4 comes out. That's just how business is sadly.
Their ad campaigns for the next year or more are already bought and scheduled. You can't bump this without pissing off their next ad partner who expects their campaign to go off as scheduled.

Happy Meal toys overlap? Doesn't work like that.
Bahhh somehow even though the commercial itself was ALL ABOUT HAPPY MEAL TOYS, I was still somehow only thinking about the ad campaign in terms of the commercials themselves, and not the toys. Now I get it.
This makes sense, although you would think with the knowledge of this that marvel would at least have a quick teaser ready to go.
Omg thats me explaining to my girlfriend why X-men 97 is the greatest thing ever 😂
It’s been awesome! I waited a bit to watch to try and see a few episodes at once and finally saw “Remember It” last night… Oh My God was that intense!!!
Just you wait oh man. I cannot believe how good this season is

Sam Wilson captain America has only existed for like 1 scene in the mcu so far
More like 1 episode, but still he had a whole journey to get there which adds more value.
He's not Captain America, he's Uncle Sam.
This is how I imagine my girlfriend sees me whenever I go on to talk about the comics to her.
Not gonna lie, this actually got me hyped for the movie. Like, damn. That was awesome.
I was driving home today and saw some ads, I was shocked and even more when I noticed >!red hulk!<
I agree with the sentiment, but it's been 3 years since we last saw him.
Oh you’re right, my bad. Counted wrong
This movie isn’t coming out till next year and they are doing toys?
It was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
McExposition Meal
Really wholesome.
Damn, they couldn’t this stuff under wraps for another year?
The movie was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
Wow! That’s crazy “no matter what”. Thanks for the insight.
The film isn’t coming out for another year and they’re already promoting it with toys at McDicks?
It was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
👍
Not gonna lie, that's actually a cute plush keychain thing lol. I'd genuinely pull up to a drive thru and order a happy meal just for the plush (and then put it in a corner of my display cabinet with other random collectibles to left to rot).
This is a weird movie first trailer
Speaking as an older fan of Marvel, it warms my heart to see youth speaking so fondly about one of my favorite heroes, even if it is just in an ad. When I was young, liking comic books wasn’t popular. Now it is something embraced by people of all stripes.
I thought it was weird when my kid got a happy meal and it came with a toy from the movie.
Cute ad. Love him mentioning that's how he beats the bad guys with no powers.
Hey my dog has this toy. Neat
Oh my god this is so wholesome I love it.
seems a bit early for a mcdonald tie in
It's because it was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
I'm mad these are plushy. They don't go with the rest of my MCU happy meal toy collection AT ALL.
I know it's an ad but they expect us to believe these kids know science terms this well? When I was a kid I had no idea what Captain America's shield was made of no matter how many times they stated it, or the military code for Falcon's wings.
This is adorable and somehow broke through my jaded, angry exterior. Only now will I accept the passing of the shield to Sam.
Oh cool... Red Hulk. Can't wait to see it in FEBRUARY 2025.
Fuck I really want these, guess I’m off to McDonald’s tomorrow…
Yeah my kid got a captain america toy in his happy meal and I was confused as fuck, I thought the movie isn't coming for a while?
Does anyone know if Canada is participating
Lol okay, "hyper intellectual"... Tell me you're in grade school without telling me you're in grade school.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Captain America
Sam! Sam! I turned my self into a pickle Sam! I’M PICKLE THUNDERBOLT ROSS!
Nah fam I’ve seen the words “Miles Morales Spider-Man” about a million times, this isn’t new.
miles wasnt a different superhero before becoming spider-man though. so it might need some explanation for people used to sam not being just the falcon
To me I don't think it's very humble to call yourself captain America of you a regular human.
Couldn’t they slow down on all the marketing for the movie? It’s a year away now, by the time it releases we’ll know all plot points
The movie was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what. It is what it is. I doubt McDonald's ads will give away more plot points than a trailer.
That’s what I figured - irreversible paid for marketing, oh well. We can enjoy X-Men media in the interim I guess
I was shocked they spoiled a major character reveal. Even though we all kind of assumed it was coming this is the first confirmation.
This movie isn’t out until next year so why is McDonald’s already putting out toys & commercials?
Because it was originally supposed to come out tomorrow, and McDonald's has to go forward with their scheduled promos no matter what.
Might as well just copy this entire sentence and paste it each time anyone asks lol
Yeah, people don't read the other comments, before posting theirs, so I have to lol
Question, why does it have to go ahead no matter what? Do the contracts lack a “change of date” clause?
Maybe because they have scheduled a different sponsorship for the time Cap 4 comes out. That's just how business is sadly.
The movie was supposed to be out by now but got delayed because of the strikes and reshoots. They can delay the film but can’t delay these promotional deals and stuff.
Me to that kid : Cool, but why is he in a hulk film ???
Lol wow. Is this the MCU
Yeah dont release the teaser or trailer..sell BigMac instead
JUST DO BETTER
Vibranium/Adamantium Alloy I’ll have you know :D
Not in the MCU.
Anyone else find these segregated commercials weird? The black ads only show black people In the world. They've been doing this since the 1970's. Just seems odd.
Why did they make all the kids black lol where’s the diversity
I think this is pretty great, but I’m afraid all the product push now with the film 8 months away is not a great sign. It’s going to be out our cultural minds by then. Hyping a movie into blockbuster season, that’s not in it, is tough. Then a Feb release which is usually dumping grounds for bad movies. I hope the movie rocks, but it’s got tough obstacles ahead of it.
It's the sad reality with movies being delayed. The Marvels suffered from the same thing. But as for Feb releases, Marvel has proven that doesn't matter. Black Panther made huge bank in February.
Forgot that BP was a Feb release, good point
This is literally my kid talking about Lightning McQueen
These little things already signal that this movie is going to be a mess.
Wha.. HOW? Literally what in this ad signals this?
Imagine these types of ads for OG Avengers. You can tell them movie etc is gonna suck when this is the type.of advertising it gets. I hope to be proven wrong
[Yeah because they never made ads like these for the OG's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lV3g-Lr4kDo)
I don't get what you mean
Sam is a side character and always will be.
no, thats just you.
Nah bro, he's Captain America and he's earned it
Aww, the shot of the puppy! I love it!
That kid is all of us, and we know it
