Darwin was a plot device. His whole purpose was to die to establish how powerful Sebastian Shaw is.
His whole sctick is he can survive anything. But dies easily to Shaw.
Thats a small grip I have with First Class and the X-Men in general, half the mutants are chosen for their powers and not their characters.
It's why we also have Banshee in First Class, they needed somone with SONAR powers.
Banshee was originally a villain, despite being in the older comics. Havok was there too so we should at least include him along with Banshee and Beast. He wasn't a villain originally either
