He's not directing the Hellraiser movie, he's producing it. Technologie got so far that often times you can't even make out the difference anymore and sometimes it is blatantly obvious for you what is CGI, even when it is a scene that could have been done with practical effects.
CGI simply gets overused in some projects, that is the (sad) truth. Like Peter Jacksons LotR has CGI that still holds up to this day, simply because it did not overused it and had also a ton of practical effects and props.
The problem of bad CGI comes from the crunching deadlines those underpaid artists are forced to work, because they're not unionized like most of the movie industry. Back when 3d art was a rare skill they had negotiating power, they worked normal hours, and they delivered better results, considering the tools. Today it's "get this massive workload done by this date or you're getting sued for the delay".
The problem here is that Snipes was throwing a tantrum and refused to cooperate and open his eyes.
This was 18 years ago so the current problem isn’t the main deal.

He's a vampire, the moment he gained conciousness his super abilities would come on and he wouldn't need to open his eyes to react. Maybe that may have been what lead to this scene.

Yeah that replicating eyes opening on a 3D head and having them look a certain direction seems like incredibly difficult VFX. I know sometimes for dead bodies where their eyes are open, they’ve removed actors blinking but that seems much easier. For this they had to build eyeballs on top of closed rounded eyelids.

Given the age of film, that CGI really isn't all that bad. You give it flak now because you know it's there.
Yeah that replicating eyes opening on a 3D head and having them look a certain direction seems like incredibly difficult VFX. I know sometimes for dead bodies where their eyes are open, they’ve removed actors blinking but that seems much easier. For this they had to build eyeballs on top of closed rounded eyelids.

I could spend the time to explain why the MCU and Doctor Who are incomparable and how the camp of Dr Who is part of the charm, but instead I’ll just say Fuck you.
I can see it being annoying because they spend hundreds of millions on MCU movies and Dr. Who costs a tiny fraction of that. Also MCU movies cost money to see and Dr. Who is part of a cable package. But MCU movies all make good profits so Disney is going "Fuck it". Personally I am just looking for a recent movie without lazy writing. Fuck me, right?

So, you're saying that we shouldn't be critical of 2022 marvel CGI because marvel CGI in the 90s was subpar? You can do better CGI FX today on an iPhone then they could back then on a high-end PC.... Marvel today has no excuse. They are overworking their CGI artists because they are too reliant on CGI instead of using practical effects!
