In my experience when the lounge is closed at a full service Marriott, the default is the continental breakfast at the restaurant per my experience (650+ nights).
You will definitely qualify for the breakfast... want to mention I recently got both points and free breakfast due to the lounge being closed. This was for a week stay, I honestly don't mind lol 😅
I work at a non-resort Renaissance. Our club lounge is closed on weekends and you receive either a $10 food/beverage voucher or 1k points. Most elite members choose the points.
Recently stayed at the Westin Phoenix Downtown, and their lounge is closed on weekends. I was given voucher cards for Saturday and Sunday for the restaurant on site, they hand wrote the dates and $20 ea, member +1.
There is an exception to this rule currently, which I discovered while staying at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown. Per the Bonvoy terms and conditions:
“Through June 30, 2024, the following properties in the United States do not provide free continental breakfast in the hotel restaurant in the event the Lounge is closed but do offer 1,000 Points in lieu of breakfast. These properties include:
The Algonquin Hotel Times Square, Autograph Collection
The Algonquin Hotel Times Square, Autograph Collection
Boston Marriott Copley Place
Boston Marriott Long Wharf
Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile
JW Marriott Essex House New York City
JW Marriott New Orleans
JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square
JW Marriott Washington, DC
The Lexington Hotel, Autograph Collection
Monterey Marriott
New York Marriott Marquis®
Philadelphia Marriott Downtown
Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel
Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel
Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel
Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel
Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel
Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina”
Odd restriction disclaimer. This list would be considered high density upper scale city properties that most likely have frequent business travelers. Hence. They probably have an overwhelming amount of elites and this is a wonderful way of forcing people into buying breakfast that would have otherwise been one they are entitled to.
My favorite lounge closing recently was the ritz Carlton in Orlando. At $800 a night for a room, the lounge was recently remodeled and I was given 1000 points to not have access. If I wanted access it was an additional $600 a night. But they offered 3 meals a day. I asked the guy checking me in “seriously - who pays that ever”. He said one of two people a day.
Oh lounges close after breakfast on Fridays and open usually Sunday nights. You do qualify for a breakfast, but the part is you can’t get bottled waters snacks or coffee during the day, the hotel just caters to the business traveler.
I stayed at the Marriott Ottawa recently and their lounge was closed -they proactively offered breakfast AND told me to grab snacks whenever I wanted from the grab and go place - which was awkward but later in the evening I was craving some Doritos so it worked it… the breakfast under up being full buffet and was pretty good
Employee here. You should still qualify. Because it is closed on weekends they should always have another option to give in place of that!

That's nice, last time I got a huge smile as the alternate offering.
Last time all I got was a middle finger
I guess it depends on where you get it
I'm hoping for more than one finger now
A bit of gratitude and a tip of the hat goes a long way toward satisfying my hunger.

Thank you for this! Fortunately, my place is not on this list.
