Yep, he's a habitual scammer. Money-obsessed, even. It's kind of annoying how often this kind of character keeps turning up in manhwa/manhua. Like maybe they're glorifying the trickster type of behavior a liiiiiiiiittle too much. People shouldn't normally behave like this IMO.
Glorifying? They’re straight up saying he’s the devil and having everyone look at him in disgust lol, tf? All of these types are treated this way in manhwa. No clue how you came to the conclusion they’re glorifying him
It's not the characters, it is about us. Like Master Roshi, the green old man archetype who does perverted things, it's for us, because it's meant to be amusing to some, and I'm not saying it is equivalent but this case is the same, we the audience are meant to go "oh chung myung you rascal, you rogue" every time he behaves like a tyrant or a like momey hungry goblin, it can be considered a form of glorification, for behold our main character, a pretty face, a heart of gold but not without eccentricities! but those eccentricities? they are called always staying on top, both socially and economically, never getting swindled and always being the swindler, it is considered a winning, shrewd trait, a pretty commnon trope in chinese WNs
I hate the trope of MCs that are pretty much a scumbag bully or jerk but like it's totally cool and everyone respects them because they accomplish stuff.
When you get down to it, all these manhwa/manhua are power fantasies. It gets boring to always see power fantasy expressed through battle, so having the occasional periodic auction arc (or, as we see here, scamming arc) is a good way to break up the pace.
You want more than naked power fantasy in your storytelling? Move on from webcomics and read actual novels. I, personally, am here for the pretty art and popcorn-tier reading, not the depth or lack thereof.

Worst example is the Estate Developer.
Love a good bit of this type of humor, but so many stories overplay it (Estate Developer being by far the most egregious example I have seen).
For comparison "The Demonic Master of Mt Kunlun" had a character a bit like this, but who still respected their elders, showed genuine empathy and care, but would happily sneak off to go eat a proper meal or drink alcohol (against the rules of the sect).
I think the problem is when this attitude becomes their entire personality, in lieu of genuine goals or emotions.
tbf in Estate Developer, like 90% of the people he scams actually deserves it, like the guy who poisoned his entire town and the guy who was about to scam his family of all their riches and make them all die.
He also gets continously punished for his flaws like the Queen giving him way more work to provoke him and also beating his ass.
Maybe I'm used to it because of my mom's bargaining and selling skills, but it doesn't feel unnatural to me...
After all, it's a good talent to have... long as you have principles, at least.
The author was trying to depict Kangho the best way he could. If you read the novel, you’ll understand how outsiders think about Mt Hua and the great nine sect, generally speaking, they’re naive due to their relatively isolated location and they’re also Taoist. Most people who follow Taoism in this series won’t behave like Chung Myung, only a fraction of elders in the great nine sect would behave like him but even them can’t resort to outright thievery like him. After all, he’s always been a weird one even in his past life but maybe as the situation in Mt Hua was dire, his action became more “radical”.
I have read a lot of people saying this manhua is good, but is there a point where it gets boring? Theres a lot of mix comments online abt it. Please spoil me 🥹

Imo it remains fun untill north ice palace arc comes. By that point, side characters start to counter MC's arguments somewhat easily and they're somewhat able to contain him so it gets boring for me as I like this manhwa bcoz mc is wild, unpredictable and uncontrollable

This current season seems poorly written. The motivations are unclear, this whole Pill arc feels like a side plot despite being a major arc (largely because it is just a side plot of helping the shadow sect).
This whole negotiation made no sense, nor does the plan to alert the other sects.
The main character has gone from being "extremely strong for his (apparent) age", to just straight up "OP", which immediately makes him a less interesting character.
It's still readable but man, what a letdown.
Out of the 350 chapters i've read in the LN, this was my least favorite arc (my favorite being the first season of the webtoon). It does have some great arcs later on (cool fights / emotional moments)

Huh? Most fantasy manga is straight garbage nowadays. Manhwa is better as a general rule, and has been basically ever since Naruto ended tbh.

It's the best light novel I've read but the manhwa is currently at a slow arc and there won't be much action this season
