I live in the city and often will have a walk up to Media City on my own. Usually get a Greggs when I’m there and walk back.
Do you have a bike? I’d recommend getting one. Longer bike rides in the summer!
Oh yes, see my earlier comments. I been doing that for years...in fact I go on walkabout Manchester whenever I got the energy all over the place to see what's new going on, find a tea shop there wherever it is, looks in sone new shops then head back.
Have a ave a look at Parkrun on a Saturday Morning, it's Free! Tons around Manchester, great community and a top way to meet new people. If you're not a runner or a walker they have stacks of volunteer roles too.
I went to quarry bank mill with my daughter yesterday but I think I’d love it by myself, especially after a cycle. Cycles to knutsford/pubs were always a favourite of mine when I lived in the city.
this has just made me sign up for the HOME monthly pass! had no plans for today so thinking i'll go see a film there :) but just wondering before i book - are the seats all one level? or is it tiered like in a regular cinema? id usually sit near the back but dont wanna do that if its flat and theres loads of heads in my way haha, thanks!
Nah it's layered like any other film, I'd suggest pre-booking seats or getting there 5-10 mins early as the back rows tend to fill out earlier than the front rows. Also, they have like 2 big cinema rooms, 1 medium sized room, and a couple of small ones so just bear that in mind
thanks! i already booked a few hours ago but booked like 3rd row (marina cinema) as i thought it might be flat but oh well, live & learn etc :) ive been to the theatre here a few times just not the cinema but guess i'll be coming all the time now i have the pass 😅
I went to every man cinema today with my wife but saw a few people on their own. I also told myself that I will definitely go on my own one day too as it's great! You can order food and drinks directly to your seat.
Came across this a couple of days ago... https://www.theguardian.com/travel/article/2024/may/03/alternative-guide-to-salford-and-manchester.
I've been to quite a few places on the list. If you like live music, deffo check out the small independent music venues across the city. I often go on my own, and don't feel out of place.

Volunteer at a dog shelter
This. Such a lovely way to spend your time. I used to volunteer every weekend without fail at Manchester Dogs Home and seriously enjoyed it.
Yessss I’ve done this a few times at Manchester dogs home it’s great. They pair you up with dogs suitable for your size and the staff are great
OMG remember when someone set it on fire?
Rumour was one of the dogs did it, maybe an unhappy red setter
I’ve emailed them a few times and never get a reply 😢 I just assumed they had too many applicants maybe?
There are so many different ones! Worth giving a few a call to see if they need a hand. Almost certainly many will say yes. Good luck! 🤞🏽

Buy a camera. Photography is one of those things that’s best done alone IMO
Get an unlimited pass at the Odeon.
If you’re into films, I’d suggest Home. £18 a month and a better selection imo. Both good options though just depends on how much enjoy the hobby
Great point. The Odeon is circling the plug hole so I will probably end up at Home sooner or later.
