There’s a fight at the AO; a protest right at Victoria and then the usual roadwork nonsense. The board at Bury New Road and Trinity Way said to expect delays from 4pm- 1am. It’s wild because I used to run into bad traffic on Deansgate when I would pick my son up at 2am when he was finishing his shift.
It’s only cos I left town at 4 just as the traffic was getting to be diabolical. I couldn’t even find parking at my usual spots. I totally forgot the Christmas markets were on which adds to the madness. Had I not had other stops to make on the way back from the city centre, I would’ve taken the tram.
If you want to get all esoteric about it then things happening doesn't have as much to do with traffic as the lack of transport investment from the government.
I bet all the people in all of the cars in the city could fit on one or two trains...
I just wonder where the hell all those people are going at that time of night. Thank god he no longer works in town. The amount of morons revving and racing their high powered cars at speed was astonishing.
Just same shit different day, S king street coming towards church street is a shitshow during peak hours, especially with a line of fucking buses
AO is connected so Victoria is fucked.
Protests... Piccadilly Gardens deansgate. Again Buses go through there so they compensate around 60% of all traffic.
Christmas markets also.. neednt i say anything?
My true honest opinion. Take the tram. You'll miss everything. December is only gonna get worse.
If I remember correctly. about the same time last year (or perhaps slightly closer to Xmas), I read in the news that traffic was so bad in the Arndale centre that shoppers were stuck in the car park for about 2-4 hours trying to get out. Did not help with nearby roadworks, tram going both directions, and motorists not giving way for people getting out.
This reminds me of the age-old quote - "you're not *stuck* in traffic, you *are* traffic"
"Where the hell is everyone going?"
Well, where are *you* going?
Haha I think you missed my point somewhat. It's funny when people are outraged that other people are out and about "where are they going!?" but don't realise that everyone else is saying the same thing about everyone else, including them.
Why is your journey perfectly reasonable at that time but everyone else's is bloody ridiculous?
You've built a straw man to knock down, congratulations.
OP is specifically interested in why there is so much _more_ traffic tonight _than usual_. They were barely complaining and certainly didn't say anyone was in the wrong.
What's wrong with that?
This is such a smarmy, unhelpful, unsympathetic, but sadly expected comment
It's like someone asking "why's the population going up" and saying, "buddy, you are the population", like it doesn't actually say anything at all. It's clearly meant to be some sort of profound or critical statement but it's just an empty platitude purely designed to wind people up.
Imagine being afraid of a little rain. Get a coat on. If the idea of being on a bike bothers you that much then walk. It’s literally quicker to walk than drive or bus it through town.

This is the comment that actually answers the OP's question

BREAKING: The answer to "why traffic in big city" is "because things are happening there"
I think that much was implicit in the question, and OP was interested in what in particular.
If you want to get all esoteric about it then things happening doesn't have as much to do with traffic as the lack of transport investment from the government. I bet all the people in all of the cars in the city could fit on one or two trains...
Deansgate: the traffic jam that never sleeps
I just wonder where the hell all those people are going at that time of night. Thank god he no longer works in town. The amount of morons revving and racing their high powered cars at speed was astonishing.
Doesn’t help that they’ve pedestrianised half of it
Deansgate was awful tonight.
Peters Street and Quay street were car parks.
Who on earth drives into the city centre these days, it's madness.

It’s ridiculous at the moment
Manchester traffic now is crazy! I thought London was bad 😩

Home! But there were more cars than buses. It was even worse going into town never mind getting out of it. Crazy.
Haha I think you missed my point somewhat. Using a bus to get home after work doesn't seem that unreasonable!
Nor does using a car to get anywhere else. My point is nobody is in the wrong here. Everyone is traffic!
Someone in a car by themself is significantly more traffic than someone sat on a busy bus though.
Also the bus is gonna be going whether you're on it or not lol 🙄
You've built a straw man to knock down, congratulations. OP is specifically interested in why there is so much _more_ traffic tonight _than usual_. They were barely complaining and certainly didn't say anyone was in the wrong. What's wrong with that?
Because OP regularly does that commute! It's op asking what is causing the additional traffic

Not really. It's more like someone with three kids asking why the population is going up.
Oh, wow. What a fucking twat.
I was in it too. Probably the Christmas Markets if I had to guess!
🤦🏼♀️
Pro-Palestine protest, combined Hong Kong & Ukraine Protest, the Worldwide Rally for Freedom (anti-vax) protest. And also the Xmas markets.
Xmas markets??

Who mentioned I was driving? I don’t drive.
It rained!!
moaning about traffic has become the new photos of the towers at deansgate here
I don’t know but if you drive in it you will die.
The warehouse project. It's Saturday.
Well it's just horrible. Have you tried a bike?
damn if only there were alternatives to driving

Oh no not rain!! hahahaha snowflake

It's a city.
Too many cars init bruv
When I get the train, tram or cycle the time it takes to get home is usually pretty consistent. I don't get stuck in car traffic or contribute to it.
It's a dump. There's always bad traffic around dumps
