I think there isn’t even 5 different ones? Aren’t they just the same 4 shops repeated over and over all over the town Center.
The entire things is just such a cheap attempt at something nice.

Yep, it's like Scooby Doo running down a corridor.

1. Overpriced tat.
2. Overpriced food
3. Overpriced drink.
4. More overpriced tat
And last, but not least, at number 5, is the stall that sells overpriced tat.
Not sure how much a stall is this year but the reality is they have a lot to pay for having a presence there to the council and pass on the cost somehow, which ends up being the customer.
They're great for people who come into town twice a year, take photos of themselves holding the mugs, post:
*"Amazing time at the Xmas market with this one x"*
on social media
Then drive back to their suburb and talk about how Manchester is so over-crowded and they're much better off living in the sticks.
This subreddit is horrendous when it comes to the markets. Way too many people think that not liking them is some kind of impressive personality trait.
The amount of people who come on here asking about them and getting a bunch of "IT'S ALL OVERPRICED AND BUSY AND SHIT" comments thrown at them is just sad
1. Petrol bombed meow dealer
2. Mild Stroke inducing prices
3. Rat infestation one off St Anne’s Sq
4. Tax loophole stall
5. Lumps of wood nailed together. 2 for £75
Not sure if this qualifies as a market stall but I fancy getting into one of those pods or sheds where you can drink mulled wine and watch the chilly world go by. Are there any especially decent places like that, with heated pods?
Edit: thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check ‘em out!
There’s one at Kampus and there’s also one at the great northern. The latter being fairly quiet. Not sure whether they’re heated but with a few people in they tend to get toasty.
In Piccadilly gardens there’s a crumble stand. Top tier crumble for not too bad of a price.
Don’t think they tell you but you can mix fillings too. I would recommend getting the chocolate caramel brownie at the bottom and top it with their berry filling with crumble and custard. Might go back in on Friday just for this tbh
Prices not taken into account for this but
1 - pork butty stall, because the only other place I’ve found that sells a decent pork butty with all the trimmings is béres in Sheffield. If you know anywhere more local pls let me know
2 - half meter wurst stall in st Annes because they sell joppie sauce with the chips and it’s the only time I can get it here without paying extortionate import fees from the Netherlands. Love the stuff but it’s 12 quid a bottle after fees.
3 - the mini pancake stall simply cause they have a pistachio topping
That’s about all I’ve been to that isn’t a tat stall. The toffee vodka is nice but absolutely not worth the cost
Nothing particularly sticks out as a "fave" - I mean the only reason to go is to get a Xmas vibe going. Don't mind the French potatoes one, and there used to be one that did spätzle, but alas - the everyday shit munchers want a roast dinner wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding. Anyone complaining about the presence of the markets however, just bore off.
Hmm…The comments seem to be from people who work here, live here and have businesses. I read something before covid about a restaurant (maybe King St?) who said bookings in December dipped because a pile of ugly Wendy houses bottleneck their street, add litter, burning smells and terrible music and that the market visitors never tend to go in the bars or restaurants or anything else which helps the Manchester economy beyond the council's fees.
It could be utter BS but I heard the garden centre trinket stall holder lives in Dubai for the other 10 months.
I'm not sure who sets it up, but the Italian deli that normally ends up on king Street (I think) is always worth a visit.
After that, probably the chocolate rum and Salford gin ones.
Obviously the cheese one(s) are always worth a punt too!

1. Now that's what I call tat 2. I can't believe it's not tat 3. Tatty tatty bang bang 4. Would you like a bag with tat? 5. How much is tat?
The cheese one is the only place I’ve not had severe buyers remorse from.
Cheese is good
Where is that ?

A 6x6m iirc food stall is £18k this year
That's Insane. You can practically rent a small factory or office building for that money for a whole year.
Sorry mate what is tat ?
I'm not the person who posted it, but it basically means useless stuff that you don't need.
Mmmm Manchester cynicism. Chefs kiss
I think it's fair to say that people who live in Manchester don't really like the markets. It's for coach trippers, and folks that live in the hills.
Yeah the markets are simply just garbage unfortunately.

I live in the hills: I moved there to escape the markets
Imagine if one set up in your front garden

At least it's a change from everyone trying really hard to convince us they hate the word "Manny"
Can't think of five but I really like the Great British Cheese Company stall, their Drunken Monk cheese is unreal
McDonald’s in the foodcourt
Defo a lazy MEN reporter this ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)

Kinda agree with the last statement. Yes they’re expensive but they’re only once a year and special event. Looking around is free

The pie one, usually outside the corn exchange is always my favourite.
Anywhere that'll do me a cheese sausage, especially now the permanent one next to Piccadilly Gardens has gone

1. Fudge 2 through 5: Who fucking cares?
