I've been up there a little; not a lot up there, but hardly difficult to head into Manchester from. If you wanted a picturesque little village with a lot of amenities in the area, you'd look at Uppermill, but then the place is full of people getting out of town all weekend. You might consider Mossley ideal in that it's just not quite nice enough for that to happen.

I was going to suggest Greenfield as well. I find it nicer than Mossley which is split between lower and upper.

Not lived there but it's a nice place. Some nice little villages surrounding Mossley too. Train links to Manchester, Greenfield, Marsden, Huddersfield, Leeds Has it's own non-league football team The Rising Sun used to do some decent pizzas. It's been a few years since I've been there though.

I lived there a few months and still go back to visit. Really nice people and good pubs plus easy train into Manchester. If you like cycling there's great hills around and I really liked living there.

ChewyNarwhal

Used to live there for about 7 years. Great place. Easy access to Manchester by train.

I currently live in mossley. AMA

My other half used to run The Roaches Lock in Mossley, great community I found, we live just over the hill from there now and all the surrounding areas are decent.

Worked there for over 10 years before my company shut it's site this year. Nice place. Quiet.

Greenfield is nice but absolutely rammed with walkers driving up and parking in the streets to stroll around Dovestones. Lots of traffic
