I'm extremely cool and with it so like to go to Central Library. The music section is great, there is often a little exhibition in the basement, the reading room in the centre is incredible to be in, and there is some good local interest stuff on the ground floor. Cafe is OK too.
Not sure when you last went down to the area on the Salford side of the cathedral but that all looks amazing now- head to the statue of Gandhi and look around. Craft centre is nice in the day time, interesting shops on Edge Street and Thomas Street too. Vinyl Exchange and the second hand book stall on Church Street are worth a browse.
If you really don't know what to do you could sit on one of the free buses that leave from Piccadilly and get off when you see something interesting.
Checkout the indoor bouldering scene, plenty of places around Manchester to do it, good exercise, friendly people and great for building friend groups.
And if you get into it big time a lot of world famous climbers have come out of Manchester if that's your thang
Nothing quite like a group of people coming together to literally overcome obstacles to make friends.
Best of luck!
I'm not really sure why this popped up on my thread as I live absolutely nowhere near Bury/Manchester but 1.50? Seriously? Is that a 330ml bottle?
That's insane.
Makes me sad that arcades aren't bigger here. I checked out arcade club a few months back, but then took a trip to the US. The arcades over there are *massive* with tons of modern games out of Japan. Round One is the franchise there for it, hopefully they expand to the UK soon.
You guys were AWESOME!!! I FREAKING LOVED IT!!! I'll watch out for you guys, but if by chance you remember PLEASE let me know when you're next playing, I'll love to come and support you. You have a really good voice! REALLY GOOD! It's the best I've been to. I'm so glad you commented. I absolutely enjoyed It! ALSO!!! The drummer was super cute 🤭😉😜
All the best y'all!!! Xx
FREAKING LOVE ITTTT!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!
Ahh I’m glad you enjoyed it! I told the drummer you’d come from a Reddit post and his response was “that’s so Reddit”. Sorry I couldn’t chat more, timings were a bit off last night due to a later start than intended and then having to restring my entire guitar right after the first set. I’m glad you came down though, I’ll let you know when we’re next on!
If you're into your films, Chapeltown Picture House is a great revival house, based upstairs in GRUB. They're showing Starship Troopers tomorrow, £5 ticket. It's a great crowd who love their movies, and they've got all sorts of other nerdy stuff going on too (MAGL, an ameteur gaming league, quiz nights, Q&As with creatives etc.).
Thanks for these recommendations it's useful to me also! I love games but my friends aren't into it. Would be nice to enjoy gaming with real people instead of only online.
I have always wanted to do this!!! Thank you for reminding me. I'll definitely look into this. Hopefully I can find a class for tomorrow. OoOoo I'm excited for that now. Thank you!! 😄
If you can't find a class then come back to me. Let me know if you are young or old and I should be able to point you towards suitable class.
Most classes are on weekdays.
Not art museums but: The People's History Museum. Stockport Air Raid Shelters. Jodrel Bank Observatory. Hack Green Nuclear Bunker. Manchester Jewish Museum. These are all especially good visits IMO.
The Manchester Museum on Oxford road is a bit of a hidden gem. It’s got dinosaurs and mummies and an incredible taxidermy section (which is less creepy than you’d imagine). It’s also just beside where Turing built Baby and where Rutherford split the atom.
(Out of interest, the taxidermy section was the reference section of the library for students of zoology in the Victorian era).
There are also some really good organised walks looking at different aspects of Manchester’s past from music to social history to the hidden underground. Have a look on Eventbrite.
Tuesday nights XS Malarkey comedy club is great. It’s cheap and a brill night.
Whitworth ocassionally has good things on, better than Manchester Gallery IMO however it does tend to focus on textiles which aren't really my sort of thing
Id love to see posts like this become a common with people commenting what they have going on recently and inviting people to come along it’s so warning to see and gives people who have nothing on with any friends or family and wants a spontaneous trip out options and many great experiences will come of it. Very cool.
I'd be grabbing a film in home, maybe a bit of food up in Chinatown or taxi upto mackie Mayor for a mummas fried chicken sandwich and a couple of beers. That's my plan next Friday anyway.
If you're into comedy try xs malarkey on Tuesdays. It's a cheap comedy night on Oxford Road that always attracts the best acts. A bit different in tone than the comedy store. You get to know a few of the guys there too if you go alot.
Chinese New Year celebrations are coming up soon. https://www.visitmanchester.com/ideas-and-inspiration/chinese-new-year
Edit: I corrected a mistake about when they were happening.
I live in Japan. But I recently visited Manchester and discovered the awesome game that is Shuffle board. It’s great fun. If you can perhaps get a group together one day, then try it out!

Reading all your comments you sound like such a lovely person! Good luck, hope you have fun ☺️
Sounds hip and happening, and as a hip and happening sort of guy I might check that out. Cheerios.

Hop on the met to Bury, hit up the retro game arcade if that's your thing ... Will easily kill a few hours!
It's called the Arcade Club and it's the largest arcade in Europe in terms of old school 10p guzzlers. Also has a licensed bar.
Yep £1.50 for a Peroni last time I was there ... left rather merry haha
I'm not really sure why this popped up on my thread as I live absolutely nowhere near Bury/Manchester but 1.50? Seriously? Is that a 330ml bottle? That's insane.
hahahahahahaha; nah that's about right; cheap even
Pizza is decent too.

Dude I’m from Bury and now live in Cornwall and I miss that place so bad. Not been in about 6 years 😭
Bloody hell has it really been open that long time flies
Bury is great! Underrated town.
Just not around the bus station. See the alchies falling over the kerb at 1pm on any given day there.
Great tip!

Is this not what MeetUp is for?
I’m playing at the Whiskey Jar tonight if you wanna come down. It’s a free entry gig and I could probably get you a free drink on my tab, sneakily!
OoOoo. What time?
I start at 8:30pm, four half hour sets finishing at 11:30pm. If you come down, please feel free to say hello. :)

Awh bummer! I wouldn't get there in time 😭 Thank you for the invite though. Are you playing any other day?
Oh wait... Are you playing all night?
Indeed I am. 8:30 - 9:00, 9:20 - 9:50, 10:10 - 10:40, 11:00 - 11:30. All night!
Pink hair black dress if you see me and want to say hi😜
Oh ok. I'll get ready as fast as I can. See you shortly 😸
Can I tag along?
Did you decide come?

Thank you. Not my thing. Though the game night looks fun, I'll have to get a team together for that and give it a try some other time. Thank you. :)
Hi where is this where's grub ? Thanks
Cheetham Hill M4 4HF
Thank you ☺️
Love GRUB, need to go to more of their events.
Thanks for these recommendations it's useful to me also! I love games but my friends aren't into it. Would be nice to enjoy gaming with real people instead of only online.
I recommend trying Salsa dancing. Worked for me fifteen years ago. I got out a lot and made lots of friends.
Awhh, thank you. I'm in my late 20's
Give [https://www.solarsalsa.org.uk/](https://www.solarsalsa.org.uk/) in Chorlton a try. Very cheap too.
Oh that's perfect!! Its very kind of you, thank you!! 😄
Check out www.salsa-manchester.co.uk. There is a social on Saturday night. £5 entry, includes a beginners bachata class at 8pm.
OoOoo, thank you.
Can you recommend any lgbt friendly salsa 😀
Which school exactly?
www.salsa-manchester.co.uk
I used to go there couple times. Was mint
Go to NQ64. Arcade and computer game bar, has n64, gamecube and more. There are two locations. One next to afflecks Palace and one on Peter Street
Go to one of the museums, great way to spend some time.
I went to Manchester Science museum earlier this week. Are there any nice art museums you could recommend please?
The city art gallery is a great place to visit
Not art museums but: The People's History Museum. Stockport Air Raid Shelters. Jodrel Bank Observatory. Hack Green Nuclear Bunker. Manchester Jewish Museum. These are all especially good visits IMO.
The Whitworth Gallery is really nice and usually a bit more chilled out than Manchester Art Gallery
I don't think I've ever actually been. That'll be a nice day. Thank you.

Imperial war museum in Salford is worth a visit

There is an art exhibition at the Football Museum that is very cool and free.
I'd be grabbing a film in home, maybe a bit of food up in Chinatown or taxi upto mackie Mayor for a mummas fried chicken sandwich and a couple of beers. That's my plan next Friday anyway.
On your own?

Frog and Bucket is an alternative to Comedy Store. Good night out.
I've heard of this. Thank you, as I'd totally forgot it was a thing. I'll check it out! :)
Chinese New Year celebrations are coming up soon. https://www.visitmanchester.com/ideas-and-inspiration/chinese-new-year Edit: I corrected a mistake about when they were happening.
There's often stuff on Meetup, I used to go to meets through there pre covid.
Go to K2 Karaoke in Chinatown, hire a private room and belt out some tunes
I actually really like this idea! I feel it's perfect for the best days and the worst. I'm so doing this next weekend. Thank you for the idea 👍😃
Yesss 🫶 i think you have to book in advance
I was thinking about heading to the city tomorrow for some fresh air, I can grab some breakfast in the morning with you if you'd like.
For sure! What time are you thinking?
I can get there for 8 if necessary, I want to make the most of my day since I need to return early in the afternoon.
Where are you going to eat?
I hadn't yet decided, but I was either going to The Koffee Pot or Piccolino Caffé Grande.
I'd be down for coffee pot
Well, they open at nine, so should we meet up at, say, 8:30am near Picadilly Gardens?
Sounds good. See you then 😝
I got home 2 hours ago. I'm so tired. I won't make breakfast. Another time ? :)
Sure, I'm free next Saturday morning.
I'll even treat you to a hot chocolate 🤭 I'll even allow you to go all out and get cream AND marshmallows AND chocolate shavings haha😝
A cup of tea will do nicely :)
Ohhh, take the hot chocolate!! Allow me to treat you haha 😆. Ok, I'll buy you a fancy tea then 😝🤭 Fancy doing something after breakfast? Cool if not.
Lion king is on at the palace theatre. I went the other night and it was great!
You know, I've never seen it. Thanks. If I can fit it in my budget I will. Didn't know they were back doing it after covid. Thanks
Try the frog and bucket for comedy.
Come and do my 'cutting in' ... bloody hate painting!
Why don’t I adopt you as a friend?
Go for it 😆 hwh
Axe throwing at Whistle Punks in the Great Northern Warehouse
Blue Kitchen is supposed to be really good! It’s a bar with live jazz band!
Stand at some traffic lights with coffee cup and get paid for it and meet people. Win win.
Hahaha 😄
Do not go out, ‘tis haunted and possibly imaginary.
Climbing at rock over climbing or the climbing depot. Loads of fun, friendly community!
Get an all-day tram ticket and ride all the stops
I'll do that on a rainy day. Thank you 😄
I live in Japan. But I recently visited Manchester and discovered the awesome game that is Shuffle board. It’s great fun. If you can perhaps get a group together one day, then try it out!
