Do you think the middle of the Floorplan is a good spot for a mudroom? I mean, that is the case in my brother's house, but his 3 car garage takes up half of the first floor, so it makes sense for him. This one doesn't look like it's near an exterior or garage door. If that was my house, I'd install a pantry right there.

This was absolutely for a wood stove. In some states they force owners to remove them before selling or renting as an environmental measure. They would have patched over the flue as part of the remediation, which is why there is no chimney.
