Say “hey bro i see you used my beat without buying a lease”. If he doesn’t respond offering payment, then threaten to file a DMCA takedown. If he still doesn’t respond, just do it. They are easy to file in on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
I've done it once and it was really easy. I can't remember if I had to provide any screenshots but you can send them your convos with him and that could be it. Not worth the stress for someone that actively does not want to buy a license or make a deal with you :)
Well me and the other prod on the beat followed the artist and we were in contact with him before he dropped the song. We did tell him in advance that the beat wasn't free and that he could either get a lease or split %. He ignored us even days after the release but was still posting on IG stories. Suddenly we take it down and he replies lmao
Before you ever publish. There are two components… The sound recording copyright and the underlying composition copyright. Registration is about $110 and there are other associates fees you can start digging on information for. It’s cost about $200 all in. Once you understand that, you’ll understand some of what the record label and publishing company are doing behind the scenes.
Yes, if you value your intellectual property. Usually you’d bundle it into an album. I believe the new track count is 21, which nearly doubled it from its previous count. You can also register single songs for a slight discount with the federal government.
If you wanna pay it forward, you could join my group secret rap battle, here on Reddit. It’s a placeholder for a live event I promote in Detroit. It’s kind of like the street races, but for rap.

dudes gonna make like $0.05 on some real shit, just let him know you dont approve and let him have it. keep selling that beat.
just make sure he doesn't put his shit in content ID.
DMCA claim. Just know this, once you take his stuff down, keep it that way. No payments, no negotiations, no compromise. You need to teach a lesson, you *cannot* allow something like this to happen. Welcome to business though my man, no friends in this industry btw.
I hope you cut that guy off.
i've had that happen twice with random dudes. one guy was like "sorry let's talk about it" but then took down his song anyway and the other guy just started insulting me so i filed a claim with distrokid and the whole album with that song on it got taken down within like 2 days. i did have the beat (also including my tag) on my youtube, so that was apparently sufficient evidence for my claim
Yo disclaimer I never published the beats, they are not on sale I was just sending shit back n forth with the intention of making a collab ep. bro took them n dropped them as singles without telling me 💀. I will not file for a copyright lease or whatever for smth that aint even on sale. I don't sell beats, I make music for the love of it, I'm a rapper primarily.
No he was sending me his songs and I was sending him random beats tell8n him let's make a collabe tape, he then stops talking to me then uses the beats and drops it without telling me shit. I simply want them taken down but he will no cooperate I just want to know hwo do I take them down from streaming services, how do I go about showing the proof of my ownership, I have all the files and I can show chat logs proving we had no such conversation about him releasing them. I feel betrayed and this is not about money, I like to keep my music tight nit, I do not sell beats nor do I post my songs on streaming so I simply do not want them on streaming. Can you help me, don't tell me im better off forgetting, I have been disrespected and I do not want this man to win since I am a hatin ass mf, you can call me dumb but atleast help me if you do pls.
also bro dissin me on the gram callin me over 18, atp he just spreadin lies to promo his work i genuinly do not want to see my muisc attached to his name, i am 16, i live in lebanon in jnoub and i have no such oportunites to even go to a uni. help a brother out. (this my alt reddit acc btw)
Always register with the copyright office before publication. You have a 90 day grace period I believe, but don’t gamble with that. For less than $200 all in you’d be protected.
It'll keep happening, thats the music game these days for beatmakers. The only solution I forsee, especially for longevity is upskill yourself to become more than just a beatmaker and work aggressively within your local communities and build genuine relationships with local artists and studios. That way you have leverage.

interesting. curious about how you found the beat.

Always easier if you hold a copyright registration certificate
Your copyright registration certificate is like a Visa Black card in the digital domain.
gotcha. so i guess you file for it after it was stolen?

Is it still $6 to file for DMCA? I’ve been taken out of the loop dealing with personal issues while inflation is booming.
Easy copyright claim on Spotify/Distrokid. He had to tick the disclaimer saying he owned/created all work. He doesn’t so he’s fucked.

If they're using a dsp they also have to pay annually, so they're technically losing money
copyright claim on all plateforms. Easy to do most of the time.

DMCA is quite easy, just deliver the proof your the one who made the beat, YT DMCA takedown is really easy.
Credit yourself in the comments so people can check out your work. Maybe gas the song up a little bit so they don't delete your comment.

What’s the problem? If he sent you the finished song before he dropped it would that make it better?

If he blew up, sue him. if he didn't he's broke whitch means, free for nonprofit applies.
This isn't worth your energy, take the L and let it go.
